Elite Event: Telepan

Such a stunning event & place! I LOVE the intimate Unilocal events with a smaller crowd. It makes it so much easier to connect with your fellow Unilocalers and really share a great experience together. Ruggy truly outdid himself on this one. Mega-​props!
Telepan is such a lovely restaurant, not only in décor, but in service and food as well! Our server, Meghan, was a delightful young woman who was always attentive with a smile. She was very helpful with suggestions for dishes, because we were all very torn. Halfway through our meal the Chef/​Owner came to greet us. That was a real treat!
This is definitely the kind of restaurant you take someone special to, just because or for a special occasion. I feel like it’s a great place to bring the parents when they visit. I know mine would LOVE it as much as I did.
Nowadays, whenever I go to a restaurant, my first thought is «Would I be comfortable bringing my 1.5 year old son here?». I probably wouldn’t bring him to this restaurant. I don’t think they’d have a problem with him, we actually heard some small kids in the next room while we were dining. My personal preference would be to leave my son with a sitter.
Hope to see more intimate events like this one. They’re my fave!

One of the most amazing Unilocal dinner events everrrrrrr!!!
It isn’t often when we are offered the opportunity to dine in grandiose style on Unilocal’s dime, so when CM Ruggy comes a calling you take advantage and make sure you show up on time and ready to feast!
I must have walked by this place a dozen times when over on the west side and never thought to take a look. Well, now that I have sampled what they have to offer I will be making reservations quite soon to go back and pay them a visit. It truly was that good.
Loved the ambiance here. Very classy and stylish but not in an overly pretentious way. It’s a relaxed vibe centered in a space that used to be two townhouses. Simply stated décor, low music, clean bathrooms, and comfortable seating. The kind of place to bring a date, or to celebrate an occasion in a low key but nice way.
What more can I say about the food other than «mind blown»? It was one of the most delicious meals I have experienced in quite a while. Being that we pretty much had a whole menu to choose from didn’t hurt! From the Amuse Bouche, Baked Oysters, Seared Duck, Maine Pollack, Monk Fish, Duck Ragout, Smoked Trout, and Lobster Bolognese we were in heaven with every bite. Oh, I can’t forget the warm bread basket to choose from with the soft butter. Of course we had to try dessert as they do have their own pastry chef on hand. Strawberry Granitas w/​Presecco, Peanut Butter Chocolate w/​Peanut Brittle Ice Cream, and some of the most moist Coconut Cake I have ever tasted. Everything we had at this dinner was outstanding! I sat at a table of four, and we happily shared and sampled each plate. Great company for a great meal! My compliments to the chefs!
I almost forgot the cocktails! Terrific Watermelon Margaritas, Basil Gimlets, and wines to choose from. Delish Port wine with dessert. Yes please!
The staff here is amazing. So friendly, professional, and accommodating. Our server Meghan was wonderful. She went out of her way to make sure we were taken care of, and went above and beyond. All the staff here we came in contact with were just as terrific. My hats off to all at Telepan as they made this meal a truly memorable dining experience. Considering they still had smiles on their faces as we kept them there late and pretty much closed the place was impressive. Bravo!

Wow — this was definitely in the Top 5 of Unilocal dinner events I have been to. With only a small gathering of a dozen people invited to this I felt as if we were dining with Unilocal royalty. Yeah, we fancy, and we special! Big thumbs down to those two that no-​showed. They must have been crazy to pass this up. Major loss on their part.
This was a meal fit for King and Queen!

Awesome event. With only a few Unilocalers in attendance and everyone seated at tables of four, it was easy to get to know people. This one was of my first Unilocal events and I’ve heard that it was worlds away from some other events were people stake out spots close to a buffet or where the servers come out to pounce on the food.
My table tried pretty much everything on the menu. We were given free rein (within reason) to try whatever looked interesting to us, and my table did our best to take advantage of that! I was especially impressed by the beet salad, the duck ragu, the lobster bolognese (one of the chef’s specialties), the AMAZING coconut cake, and the smore’s dessert. I loved the chef’s take on everyday dishes like Bolognese and smore’s, which he elevated to make more upscale and original. The only dishes that disappointed were the monkfish and the Maine polluck, both of which were overly salty.
Our server, Meghan, was very knowledgeable about the entire menu. We took all of her suggestions when ordering, including cocktail and wine pairings. She was really attentive and all of our drinks and food dishes were brought out at a perfect time. I had enough time to get to know my tablemates and finish my previous course without feeling rushed in the slightest. We really appreciated that the chef came out to introduce himself and check on us as well.
Overall I had an awesome time at the event. Couldn’t have asked for a more fun night with interesting people-​thanks Ruggy! Shout out to my new friends Doris, Ryan, and Jacqueline as well!

I’ve had lots of fantastic dinners, but this was definitely up there. One of my top 3, if not favorite, fine dining experiences. Hands down.
Lets start out with the ambiance. The restaurant is fairly large, tucked away in what used to be 2 old townhouses. The décor is classic and clean with a modern touch that lends itself to a timelessness that more «trendy» restaurants just don’t have. That being said, it doesn’t feel sterile or stuffy, it’s very comfortable and unpretentious. The tables are dressed simply and the chairs/​booths are clean and look well taken care of. I didn’t see a lot of seating for large groups naturally, so you should definitely call ahead of time if you are looking to get a table for more than 4.
Our server, Meghan was a dream. Very kind, courteous, and patient (which is necessary when you’re picking from a menu where EVERYTHING looks fantastic). She gave wonderful suggestions and was very knowledgeable about the food. There’s not much to say about her other than that she was wonderful and really personable, which when it comes to serving is a good thing. If she’s there when I return, I’ll definitely request her.
Now, the food. It’s always a great problem to have when everything on the menu sounds delicious. We all got something different for the most part and got to taste everyone’s food. Two things to note is that every plate is beautiful and the portions are just right. Of the things I tried:
Baked Oysters — Fantastic, fresh and tender. I’m not even a huge oyster fan but I could have eaten an entire plate.
Smoked Trout — delicate but slightly smokey, tender, fresh trout that’s barely cooked on top of a yummy corn blini. A little salty for me (I have a really low salty tolerance) but I would definitely get it again.
Lobster Bolognese — rich, buttery lobster, and a beautiful bolognese. I did find myself looking for a little acid, but the white wine I had paired really nicely with the richness. Honestly though, it was fantastic.
Duck Ragout — rich, hearty, and delicious. the pasta was tender but toothsome, perfectly cooked.
Maine Pollock — The tomatoes by themselves I could have had for dinner. Great.
Monk Fish — Pretty good, probably my least favorite dish but it was still delicious.
Seared Duck — Made me almost regret getting the Maine Pollock. So fantastic, perfectly cooked duck breast.
Strawberry Granitas w/​Presecco — I literally drank the dregs from the cup. No shame.
Peanut Butter Chocolate w/​Peanut Brittle Ice Cream — Could eat this everyday and never get tired, the peanut brittle ice cream was a revelation.
Coconut Cake — I hate coconut. Or at least I did until I had this cake… I might have to reevaluate some things.

A gastronomic oasis on the Upper West Side. Telelpan’s well regarded New American fare drew me in. An intimate brownstone setting for an elegant night out. I was so happy to be able to join this culinary event. It was a lovely night hanging with our charming Manhattan ambassador Ruggy. I had an amazing time.
As a carb harlot the fennel & raisin bread with its savory sweet «thing» was just the thing to start the service which was spot on.

Maine pollack with eggplant and heirloom tomatoes

Telepan s’mores
The meal was mind blowing as a carb harlot– I especially loved the pasta and the dish called lobster bolognese was soooo clever and obscenely delicious. All fish and veg were snap, crackle and pop perfection. The superstar s’mores dessert with graham cracker ice– cream paired with tawny Porto would have sealed the deal had this been a dessert on a date. Smashing evening!

I’m such a stickler for good service, and telepan was amazing. Every staff member was genuinely helpful and kind. Our waitress was a pleasure and I’m grateful for her descriptions and help during decision time!
I’m a bit of a brat, but i love it when my utensils are switched out between courses. It made my heart skip a beat.
The food was amazing. I thankfully didn’t have to foot the bill, but between the service + quality of our meals; the price was well worth it.
Our table (pretty awesome set of women) shared a bunch of plates. Nothing was bad, but you know, everyone had favorites. ;) my standouts were:
