History

Established in 1997.

Eleni began her career in the media world working at the venerable Time Inc., eventually moving into the editorial division of Life Magazine. Through a twist of fate, Eleni, who had a passion for baking, began a small catering business in her tiny NYC apartment. What began as a side business featuring Eleni’s mother’s famous vegan oatmeal-​raisin cookies quickly outgrew her home oven and evolved into a full-​fledged cookie empire.

Since 1997, Eleni’s New York has been a must-​stop at Manhattan’s iconic Chelsea Market, later followed by an Upper East Side location and an expansive website, where irresistibly designed custom «Conversation Cookies» and other treats await, both locally and nationwide. Today, Eleni’s custom cookie creations are a favorite of celebrities, luxury brands, Fortune 500 companies and cookie lovers alike.

In addition to her stores, Eleni’s signature hand-​iced sugar cookies can be found in Bergdorf Goodman, Barney’s and Dean & Deluca to name a few.

Meet the Business Owner

Business Owner

A native of the San Francisco area, Eleni Gianopulos moved to New York City in 1991. With a passion for creating desserts, she began baking batches of her mom’s famous oatmeal raisin cookies and selling them out of her apartment. In 1997, Eleni was one of the first three tenants to sign a lease at was about to become Manhattan’s Chelsea Market. Aside from baking dozens and dozens of here mom’s ode to cookies, Eleni created hand-​iced sugar cookies with custom messages. Customers asked for more shapes and designs, which led to the birth of ‘conversation cookies,’ now a true Eleni’s New York staple.
