They’ve got the best bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. I get one almost everyday! I haven’t seen them all week. I hope they’re just on vacation!

On that rare day I oversleep because I have a hangover & have to take the subway to work, I tend to make a pit stop at El Carrito Rojo for one of their humongous(and totally hangover satisfying) breakfast burritos. The breakfast burrito is huge, greasy, cheesy & absolutely delicious. Plus it’s ridiculously cheap & fast to eat & order. I had ten minutes to get to work(down the block) when I stopped to order my burrito. I still made it to my office with 3 minutes to spare. I haven’t tried anything else on the menu, but I’m pretty satisfied with my hangover burrito. Hoping that the tacos & the rest of the menu is just as tasty. But it’s just not something I’d eat on an everyday basis. Oh, and it’s cash only.

Did I order wrong? Two tacos: lengua(tongue) and cesina(salted beef). There was nothing to write about. I was starving so anything decent would have pleased me, easily. But the meats were bland and the sauce was so watery… Maybe it was an off day for the kitchen, maybe I have been having the wrong tacos elsewhere…

I had the Mexican fried rice with fried chicken. Some of the rice was pretty hard and it was chock full of diced, completely RAW onions. C’mon, really? Not even red onions, but the stronger white ones. I feel like I just ate an entire raw onion and my breath is rank right now. The chicken was okay. U get 3 pieces. 2 were normal and one was that lonely leftover piece that has a strange color to it that no one really wants. Clearly I will no longer trust my coworkers food suggestions after this. I’d be open to trying the empanada or taco there as perhaps that’s the way to go, but I’m going to have to wait for this rather unpleasant 1st try to fade in my memory a bit first.

El Carrito Rojo was started by 2 brothers who grew up around great food. They learned to cook through their mom and all they wanted to do was to make their mom proud and share her amazing cooking with the rest of the world. Sounds like it could be true right? Yeah, have no idea how this truck started or who the owners are. But I do know that this little red truck produces a mean taco. For $ 2.50, you get a soft tortilla with an abundance of meat, lettuce, onions, sliced radish, guac, salsa, and a fresh lime. Spicy pork is my favorite. The steak and chicken are runner ups. I have yet to try their platters, but for a delish taco at $ 2.50 each, I’m not in a rush to try anything else.

It’s places like this that mean you never have to eat fast food if you wanna eat cheap in ny. Tacos are awesome. Been here a handful of times, and the lengua, pastor, and chorizo were all awesome. It’s like true Mexican style tacos, with no cheese and a good amount of meat, raw onions, cilantro, limes to squeeze. They add a nice twist with a lil guac, and radish slices for crunch. I was content at 2 tacos and stuffed after 3. They’re here for lunch, not sure about dinner as I haven’t been at that time.

The tacos from this truck were bigger than ones I’ve had a similar trucks, plus they come with fresh guacamole on them, for only $ 2.50 each. I had 2 spicy pork and a beef taco. The spicy pork tasted a lot like pulled pork without the bbq sauce, but were still very juicy. The beef kinda was a little bland, I would pass on that next time. I couldn’t finish my 3 tacos, and that usually is not a problem that I have.

If you’re looking for a cheap, quick meal this is the place. 2 tacos are more than filling for me but if you’re a growing boy go with at least 3 and they’re only $ 2.50 each so you won’t be breaking the bank. The chorizo taco is probably the best, the chicken is pretty good and so is the el pastor, but the beef is a little on the dry side for me. Their spicy green sauce is packing some heat, no such thing as mild or medium here.

I usually go to the Trio taco truck on 20th and Broadway, but I decided to give this place a shot. I was a little wary because this truck just looks nicer. For a taco truck, usually the worse the design the better the food. First I noticed that the tacos here are 50 cents more than Trio. But as I got back to my desk I noticed that they seemed to have more meat in them. The quality was similar to Trio. My only problem was that I asked for chips and salsa, thinking it’d be a cheap thing to add as filler but they just squirted the salsa on chips and charged me $ 4 for it. way too much in my opinion. I’ll probably stick to Trio, but there isn’t really a drop off here.

This truck is better than the famed El Rey Del Sabor when it come to bistek/carne asada tacos. The tortillas tasted fresh(I believe that makes a very big difference) and the meat was flavorful and juicy. We actually were on our way to a taco crawl in Brooklyn, and on the way to the meeting point on 19th and 6th chelsea/flatiron area, we saw the truck and jumped out of the cab. This ended up being better than some of the spots we chose for the crawl, and those places were chosen from several others that we tried a couple weeks before during our«due diligence» mission. I highly recommend this truck, it was also a good size, the one time I tried it I would definitely put it above the West 4th/7th ave truck.

So, it’s hot as HELL right now and I wanted a nice taco. Not sure why, but I wanted a taco. So i took the stroll about 8 blocks from my work to try out this taco truck that I’ve seen in passing. I ordered 2 chicken tacos and a bistec tostada. I sweat all the way back to the office, hungry for some yum. Now, I usually don’t describe bad food in detail, because, well, we all know what bad food is. It’s just bad. No need to really describe it at length. But just for the sake of it, I’ll give it 2 or 3 sentences: The chicken was obviously made hours(or heaven forbid, days) before I ordered it. It was obviously grill-sick. The Tostada was more of a Toesoggy, and it ended up costing $ 8, which wasn’t all that great(each fit in one of those small Styrofoam containers(I won’t even begin to start my unrecyclable rant). Anyways, I wouldn’t recommend it and I doubt I’ll be back.

I tried this Taco truck a few weeks ago since it is parked right by where I work, and was blown away. They taste like what you can get in Cali… which is kinda hard to find around this area. I will say this, if you are looking for a generic run of the mill meat, rice, beans, and a whole lot of taco sauce taco/burrito this isn’t the truck for you. If you are looking for a fresh/authentic Cali tasting taco/burrito then you want to stop on by this truck.

$ 2 for a taco reminds me of Mexico. Unlike their Taco Bell imitations, these tacos come on 2 corn tortillas, with all the trimmings. Get 1 for a snack or 3 for a meal! Look for a big red truck

Not terrible, not great. I’ve tried a bunch of the trucks in the city and still prefer Super Taco on 96th and Broadway, especially for the Lengua.

These are some of the best tacos you can get in the city. Served out of a truck located next to Sports Authority on the corner of 19th Street and 6th Avenue Monday through Saturday. Cheap and makes a great lunch.
