Edamame Spa

After enduring 40 weeks of pregnancy, I decided that I needed to get a prenatal massage. I hoped that I would be soothed of my aching legs, back and hips or be put into labor (or BOTH). The spa itself is nice, and comfortable. They offer snacks and drinks while you wait and private lockers to house your belongings. The massage itself was pretty good. It felt great being on my stomach (they have a special massage table set up) after not being able to for so long. Half way through the massage you do turn on your back and the table is electronically adjusted to your comfort. The massage table is heated, which was also soothing to my aches and pains. My masseuse was great about checking in with me and making sure I was okay. I felt comfortable telling her to make certain adjustments for my needs. It is very hard for me to relax and unwind and this massage definitely helped. I did feel like the massage might have been cut a little short of 50 minutes based on the time I arrived, waited, got undressed and dressed but it could be in my head. I would for sure come back after I have my baby for a deep tissue massage.

Enjoyed the experience. Cannot wait to try another therapist on my next visit. The pillow help me take the best nap of my life.

This was my second massage and third treatment at edamame. My first treatment was a stem cell facial which was horrible. I had sinus blockage because the esthetician pushed on my skull instead of pores on my nose.
I got a massage next time. It was very mediocre at best. And not deep at all to get relief. I had a gift card so went back to get another massage.
The masseuse this time was GREAT!!! She told be there is only so deep she can go as I had to lay on my side. The pressure was deep (and she could have gone deeper if i lay on my belly) and she told me what she was doing every step of the way. I really liked the massage and would recommend Faye. Ask for Faye!!!

Wow!!! The best facial I’ve ever had is here. These are the best extractions (no bruising) and helping to clear up !!!
Carolina she is the only one I trust. She makes the client comfortable and always kind. She has such a soothing touch!!!

Yesterday was my first time going for a prenatal massage. I am 8 months pregnant and was really looking forward to it. Especially because this spa was recommended to me. I called and made an appointment for an 80min massage and was told they were running a special for $ 195. Seemed a little expensive but with a hurting back and ribs everyday, I was more than willing to pay. Everything was going great until the masseuse came to get me out of the lounge area and didn’t even bother to tell me her name. Over looking this, she was very sweet and personable once I was escorted into the massage room. This is all fine and dandy until I realized that this woman was going to continuously talk to me for my entire 80min massage. So honestly again she was very sweet and nice and I believe she really meant well. BUT, when I’m paying $ 195 to RELAX, I DON’T want to talk. As far as I’m concerned that’s what my girlfriends are for. So long story short Joanna, (receptionist told me her name) is sweet, nice, and almost motherly. But she gave me a mediocre massage and even that was ruined do to her CONSTANT CHATTER and I do me constant. I can pretty much tell you her life story including what her kids and husband do for a living. To say the least never again will I be going back to Edamame Spa.

Not sure why this place got such bad reviews. I did read the reviews before I went and made sure I didn’t get Verna as I hate chatter. I got Robin and couldn’t be happier. No chatter, and she applied just as much pressure as I asked for. I was very happy with my massage and wished it never ended. The only complaint I had about the place is the ‘locker room’ isn’t closed off enough and the entire time I was getting undressed staff kept coming out of the staff room and breezing by. I’m a little too shy to get undressed infront of others so that made me really uncomfortable.

I was shopping at destination maternity a few months back and when you are a first time buyer then offer you a tour of the spa. Well fast forward a month and its Sat. I went into the city cause I was meeting my hubby for dinner so I get to the store around 3 to kill time. I am shopping around they are do free mini-​treatments on the floor and I look at their menu and ask the girl if they had any opening for a facial. As luck would have it, someone had just cancelled (that’s why they were doing free treatments upstairs) and they took me downstairs for a facial and massage. The spa isn’t very large but its cozy and very calm. The dressing room is small but it has about 5 lockers or so. There were two other girls in there when I went to change and we weren’t crowded. You then walk to the lounge area, which was really nice in the small space. The whole spa was clean and calm. The lounge had water and apple juice and Luna bars (good for preggers) and magazines. They had nice lounge chairs too.
The store manager did my facial. She was amazing! I would def go back to her and get another facial. We had the first room by the reception door and you couldn’t hear any noise. She used this great oat scrub and peel from naturopathic (sp?) and I was considering buying them but then I got coupons at checkout that begin next week so I held off. My face was literally glowing at the end of the facial. Even my hubby said so! The facial is worth the price, its calm and relaxing and it was a good facial — as good as other facials I have gotten at higher end spas.
The massage on the other hand was mediocre at best. I probably wouldn’t recommend a massage here. I got the prenatal massage, but it was mostly a lot of rubbing me around with oil. I didn’t really feel «massaged» if you know what I mean. The only good thing about that massage was their pregger pillow that allows you to lay down so they can massage your back. The bed was heated so when you flip over the oil does dry up (they use ALOT of oil) and at the end they give you a hot towel to dry off. Either way, I would probably get a massage somewhere else, def not here again.
They don’t try to up-​sell you any products either, which I appreciated. They show you the products used on you during your services but I said no thank you and she didn’t mention them again.
I highly recommend the facial to all expecting mothers.

I went at 25 weeks for the signature massage and it was fantastic. I have had prenatal massages a few other places and have not been impressed — therapists did not seem to know how to manage the fact that I could not lie either face down or flat on my back. Robin could tell exactly where all of my tight spots were and I loved the pillow that lets you lie face down so that she could really work on my lower back. The lounge is not huge or fancy but it’s perfectly comfortable. There were some product suggestions when I checked out but no hard sell. I will go as often as I can in my third trimester!

I was shopping in Pea in the Pod. I’m 8 months pregnant & in search of something to wear. Of course this no easy task. Now that I feel as swollen as a hot air balloon. At checkout the cashier told me about a spa downstairs. I decided to have a peek.
I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who told me about a cooling vita leg treatment. I just had to try it, even just to lie down the heated table with my feet elevated.
My therapist Carolina had a wonderful touch. The cream was minty & refreshing. She left my legs feeling light & energized again.
I was so comfortable, I didn’t want to get up. So I stayed for a facial with Carolina.
I have had some aggressive facials, this was so different. Her style was very graceful. The extractions were so quick. Then she applied a cooling aromatherapy mask. This was so relaxing. Carolina clearly knows how to care for skin.
Definitely the best facial I’ve ever had. Now I finally have the pregnancy «glow.» Will be going back after I have my baby!

I went here at 37 weeks and was hoping to get a little relief and maybe stimulate some pressure points. First of all, the prego «support pillow» is a total joke. Maybe I could have laid on my tummy if I was in the second trimester, but forget it! It’s not supportive at all. There are other pregnancy massage pillows out there that offer genuine support for a full term mother, but this is not it. I had to lie on my side for the massage, which means less pressure.
The massage itself was OK. Nothing exciting. I’m pretty sure the sheets were NOT CLEAN! Either that or they were just stained. Gross…
What really annoyed me, was at the end of the massage they ask if you want a «free copy» of Parenting magazine. Ya, why not? What I didn’t realize is that they use your credit card info to order you a SUBSCRIPTION to the magazine, and you get one free copy.
There are other places out there that are a lot better and don’t trick you into «free» stuff.

On the recommendation of a friend I went for a 50 minute massage w/​Faye (I’m 20 weeks pregnant and so was able to use their belly pillow to start the massage on my front side). It was a great massage and I would recommend Faye to anyone who is pregnant and no longer in their first trimester. I was pleased to find out that the $ 135 price included a 13% gratuity (I tipped an additional $ 7 to bring the tip to closer to 20%).
The space, while small and in the basement of Destination Maternity, was clean and relatively luxurious. The massage table is AWESOME — like a heated craftmatic bed which adjusted to accommodate my body.
Faye was fantastic — perfect combination of relaxed/​serene and responsive to my comments/​questions without being the least bit chatty or intrusive. Also very focused on delivering the appropriate level of pressure and adjusted immediately when I found the pressure too great on a certain part of my body.
My only complaint is that the Spa booking system is not computerized and even though there were two women at the front desk, it took 8 minutes to figure out who I was, what service I received and then to ring me up at the end. Even passing my cc through the machine took 3x as long as it should have taken. I recommend that they attempt to make their system a bit more efficient. On the positive side, there was no hard sell, just a written «prescription» for 2 products that I might like from Faye.

Maybe because I was pregnant but the massage I got here was nothing to get excited about. They used little to no pressure and I generally like a lighter touch, but this was the equivalent to my husband unhappily giving me a back rub. A waste of money.

This is a lovely place. I can’t figure out what the other reviewers expected. It’s very nice for what it is. It caters especially to pregnant women and is the only spa in the city that does that. It is not a top of the line spa, but the prices are reasonable and the massage that I had was very good. It is clean, the people were pleasant, the massage was relaxing and the snacks in the waiting room were great. They deserve better reviews than what you see here.

After reading the reviews I’m confused, I think some people are a little hormonal. I have 3 words VERNA VERNA VERNA! I am 26 weeks and finding this pregnancy spa is the best thing that could have happen to me. I’m a hairstylist and my body aches be on my control. So when I first came to the spa it was a peace it was clean, it was just peaceful so I took a shower to wash off the day and in walks my Angel. VERNA was so informative, you could tell she new what she was doing. she touched my back and could tell I was congested. She helped me to workout my issues through breathing and even gave me food tips. If you need a magical touch VERNA IS YOUR GIRL!

I had a good experience at Edamame — it’s not a luxury spa with lots of extra bells and whistles it’s a relatively small space with only 5 – 6 massage rooms (try Great Jones Spa for that) but it is clean, a very nice space, comfortable rooms and beds, lockers with robes and flip flops a small lounge area to relax read and snack. My massage therapist was good and I would go back. They did get a little pushy with trying to sell expensive products after the massage that are totally unnecessary in my opinion.

Worst massage ever.
Upon entry into the treatment room, Verna the «therapist» told me my child due to be born in 5 weeks will be difficult because she is a Gemini and then proceeded to do virtually no work on my lower back despite my repeated requests. She told me she had to work on the rest of my body in order to give me any relief. And she walked out of the room once or twice. I am not an idiot, and have had many many professional massages over the years. She was no authority and had very weak hands.
Oh and she was so chatty, and really wouldn’t let me relax. I wish I checked Unilocal before I went in there. Biggest waste of $ 135 bucks ever. If you go make sure you request that Verna is not your provider.
I went here because I thought they would have therapists who specialize in working with pregnant woman, and I thought I would be able to lay face down. She said i was too big and that I would have to lay on my side. What a lovely thing to say!
Anyway, Verna had no idea what she was doing. I still can’t believe she told me that my child would be a nightmare before my massage because of her astrological sign. Nice way to relax an expectant mother who is already in pain.
The spa is also not that impressive, and you can get a much better massage elsewhere for $ 135.

First of all, take note that this is a spa that is specialized for PREGNANT women. I left my usual facialist because most spas do not have specialized beds or understand the needs of prego women for these services. For example, you are not supposed to lie on your back since the weight of the baby puts pressure on a blood vessel called the vena cava and it gets real uncomfortable. I went to Edamame for a facial – they had the very comfy bed/​table reclined so the back was still up and legs were raised and the experience was much more comfortable. The facialist was also quite knowledgable about all the nuances skin and body goes through during pregnancy. The facial was overall very good, but the extractions were one of the most painful. The facialist said she like to go fast and effective. I found the spa itself to be nice and relaxing

Ths is the ABSOLUTE WORST spa. I don’t think you can even call it a spa because it is in a windowless basement and there is nothing luxurious about this place.
The first time I went in for a massage, the only shower that they have is broken so I couldn’t shower after my massage eventhough my body was sticky with massage oil. The staff never told me that the shower was broken, I had to figure it out myself. The massage was mediocre and it lasted for only 45 minutes.
The second time I came for a massage, I came 15 minutes earlier, as they tell you to do. I arrived early and undressed and waited in their waiting room. I read two magazines from cover to cover before the masseuse came to get me. I asked her what time it was, and she said that it was 25 minutes after the hour. I was really annoyed because no one told me they were running late. When I explained to the masseuse that I had an appointment after the massage and that I couldn’t be late, she kindly offered to «cut my massage 25 minutes short» but she would charge me the full amount. How kind of her! She didn’t even apologize, and no one from their stafff apologized to me for being late. I couldn’t believe that they were so unapologetic about screweing up my appointment, and they didn’t offer anything to make up for it. I would never try this place again. It is very unprofessionally run and the spa is not luxurious at all. What a terrible experience!

Bad experience! Came out of a mom to be massage, more sore and stiff neck. I was there to relax, and the lady kept talking to me and showing me exercises instead of massaging me.
Had a pure facial and never been so red in my life, I am worse today. I don’t have sensitive skin, and I get facial regularly. The lady was good, I just think she was too rough.
Not relaxing at all.
