Been coming here for 5 years. Alex (recently left, still on East Village), Joseph, and Abe are the best. All the guys are great and know how to take care of you.
I live in Barber City (Hamilton Heights/​Broadway area) and still make the trek down here every 3 – 5 weeks for a cut.
Decent prices, and well worth every dollar. The shaves and beard trims are also fantastic if that’s what you need.

Excellent barber shop. I have been going to this place for many years; it’s the same basic crew, with very little turnover. The price is incredibly low given the quality of the work. These guys are experts, and they are also great company. The atmosphere is classic, great attitude and humor. Even upon moving to a different part of the city, I travel well out of my way to this street in the East Village every 3 weeks.

After living in NYC for 11 years and having multiple barbers, this barber shop was recommended by a friend 5 years ago and I have been coming every other week since. All the barbers are professional and cut your hair the way you ask, not the way they want to. I love how you can make an appointment or just walk right in. Another added bonus is that the price is right! Come for the cut, but stay for the entertainment.

I’ve been going to this barber shops for about 6 years. All of the barbers are extremely polite and friendly, and I would feel comfortable recommending any of them. But my guy has always been Josef. When my old barber left years ago I jumped at the chance to switch to Josef. I go just about every week and have left with a great cut every time. Keep up the good work guys.

I can’t recommend these guys anymore. My go-​to barber left here recently without me knowing; even though he left, these guys took my reservation for him. When I got there, one of the owners lied and said he had left early. I was supposed to be next up. Instead, I waited a good 20 minutes. Some who went ahead of me had reservations, but not all did. Whatever, I really needed the haircut (again I didn’t realized they lied) and to be honest these guys hadn’t let me down haircut-​wise over the last 8 years (mostly with my main guy, granted).
They gave me a new guy that did a hack-​job on my hair. How do I know he was new? Other than him telling me, the way he was pulling and tugging. He finished what usually takes ~20 minutes in 10. Then when he was finishing up he told me that my guy had left. I may have to get the haircut fixed, but even that I can forgive. Hell I would’ve even stayed for the haircut anyway if they were up-​front about him leaving. But I cannot forgive the blatant dishonesty that the owners (they were all present) showed. It isn’t the first time I’d seen them bullshit people either. In my case, there won’t be a second – even if my guy comes back here.

You’ve tried all the rest, now try the best: East 6th street barber shop is the place to go to. The staff is great but Josef is the guy to go to. He is friendly and a skilled barber. His cuts are quick and precise. Josef knows exactly the style that fits you. My husband and my son always come out looking very sharp.

I’ve been getting haircut at this Barber Shop for over a decade. Before this I went to an extraordinarily expensive salon where a stylist agonized over cutting my hair to justify the cost. My guys at 6th St knock 20 or more heads each A DAY. Great skill, great cuts. Can’t recommend them more highly!

Clean, warm, comfortable, modern but not pretentious, very reasonable prices, friendly owner… this place is a no-​brainer for a quick and solid haircut.
I am very particular about my haircut and I was extremely surprised at how great my cut was by Danny.
I highly recommend this place.

This is the only Unilocal review I will ever write: Avi is the best barber I have ever had in my life – the original AVI. They’ve replaced him with new guy named Avi. The real Avi that all the Unilocal reviews are about no longer works there because of jealous barbers from the old country. Also, new Avi doesn’t disinfect his razors and blades. Speaking from experience.
If you are looking for the greatest fade you will ever have or just a genuine barber, call the REAL Avi – AVI MAVLYANOV. He still works in the East Village. Call him at 6 462 866 904.
You will not be disappointed. I guarantee that.
This place just isn’t the same without him.

Nothing better than people that love their craft. Barbers here enjoy what they are doing and they are good at it. Always a friendly atmosphere. Great customer interraction. They remember their customers and you can have fun conversations with them. Most important is the consistency of the cuts. Pretty much each time it’s the same quality cut. They give great advice. It can be busy at times so best to book a time slot. Also, try to come in on days/​times when it is less busy that way you can get even more personalized experience. Sometimes they do rush in peak times. Prices are pretty good for the city. Josef cuts my hair and he’s top notch, but you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Came here for the first time about 7 – 8 years ago as a broke college student — simply because they had the best prices I could find. it’s the amazing service that keeps me coming back, though. These guys are professionals. They laugh, they’re friendly, the place is clean — and most importantly, they give great cuts. Hope this place stays around for a long time. I go to Joseph, and he never disappoints.
They take walk-​ins but they can get busy, so I always make an appointment.

My people up in here don’t bother you too much and are quite friendly.

Apparently this spot has been around for awhile, but you’d never know. It’s clean and seems as if it were newly renovated.
Long story short I’m very particular about my hair and how things fall on my face, and Alex hooked it up real nice. I was unable to use the proper jargon in regards to what I wanted done (what can I say, I’ve had the same barber for years), but he figured it out. He was quick, efficient and is probably gonna be my new go-​to guy.

This is my 2nd review for this shop. Why? Because I got my hair cut by another barber and he earned a review!
My regular barber is Josef, 5 stars. Today because Josef was off, and Mike cut my hair, another 5 Stars. Mike (first chair) runs the show, great conversationalist, and most of all knows how to blend. I showed him a pic of my regular haircut and he replicated it perfectly and then some. He’s detail oriented, and has been doing this for years. Like I said in my previous post, I’m very picky about my cuts (combover), and I’m willing to put my money on it that Mike is a sure shot.
All barbers here are great, but from personal experience, I can honestly say you CAN’T go wrong with Josef or Mike.
