History

Established in 2007.

— 2007: Dumbo Moving & Storage opens for business with two trucks and an American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) membership.

— 2008: Dumbo Moving & Storage expands to four trucks and expands its storage facility to 10,000 sf.

— 2009: Dumbo Moving & Storage is named as one of the top five moving companies on Yelp as the firm expands to eight trucks.

— 2010: Dumbo Moving & Storage expands its storage facilities to 30,000 sf in Brooklyn and increases its fleet to 12 trucks

— 2011: Dumbo Moving & Storage establishes a presence beyond the New York area creating hubs for shipping and receiving in Charlotte, NC and Miami, FL and increases its fleet to 20 trucks

— 2012: To best serve its growing client base for long term storage needs, Dumbo Moving & Storage opens a 45,000 sf facility in East Rutherford, NJ and increases its fleet to 28 trucks

Mainly a musician for most of my life, I came to NY in 1998 and followed the Brooklyn music scene in Williamsburg and DUMBO. I started working as a mover in the leading moving companies in NYC as a driver then manager. Later I opened a recording studio in DUMBO, but the scene began to change when musicians and artists were fighting with the landlords and developers, a lot of the pioneers of DUMBO left the neighborhood because they couldn’t pay rent or kept switching buildings. I decided to keep the studio, and to open a moving company next door named Dumbo Moving and Storage Inc., as an answer to the big migration to Brooklyn. DUMBO stands as a beacon for the first landmark coming in to Brooklyn, and Dumbo Moving was an answer for many of the newcomers. As a professional mover, with a passion for fairness, I decided to give customers an affordable solution for all the over-priced moving quotes in New york City. We now are the biggest, and most affordable moving company in Brooklyn.

So all was scheduled for a certain time and keep in mind they charge you only what they will move. So you have to make an inventory of what they will touch and take. Anything else is extra not found on the list. I had to make sure that everything on their contract list matched mine. Took about 5 days because we had to go back and forth because Matt (phone account rep) didn’t seem to add the stuff I needed to move. I have to say the price was great until they showed up. So I get a call and they want to change my time earlier. It wasn’t a big issue but i expect that I need you here at a certain time to be here at that time. not 2 or 3 hours earlier or late. Well I said lets just do it an hour earlier. They use 4 men. 1 stays in the truck and 3 go up and down. So we get to the new building and that building has a ramp for deliveries and is situated by a hydrant. perfect. They say, O we can park there. WHY? you keep one man in the truck. Yes, but he works hard like us. (broken english) they park in front of the building entrance on purpose so they can charge you extra money. Contract says, if they have to push more than 100 feet they will charge $ 250. Mean while the building had developed this specific ramp and parking for deliveries and garbage removal. Unbelievable. I start to tell the guy, Your doing this to milk money out of me… He says, «O no, no» I won’t call the office you could just give me $ 150 cash instead. Mean while the company has a NO CASH POLICY. Do your self a favor. FIND YOURSELF ANOTHER MOVER. Not Worth The Headache!

My partner and I relocated from NYC to Miami in May. He had previously used Dumbo Moving on multiple occasions without incident. My company offered to pay for my move with a different company which assured that there would be no damages.
I went against my better judgment of having my company arrange the move and went with Dumbo which my partner highly recommended.
The pickup occurred on time and so did the drop-off. Unfortunately a lot of my belongings did not arrive safely.
The only piece of furniture (a pure walnut sideboard from De La Espada) which was shipped (aside from an indestructible one piece side table, chair, and a large mirror) was destroyed. The base was not removed and was not packaged appropriately which led to the base and legs being ripped off in multiple places. I noticed this even before the piece was brought in the house because the shape of the wrapped furniture did not match its initial form. I took photos and sent it to the company for compensation. They said they would give me 60 dollars for a piece worth over 5,000.
In addition, I had collected over the years several pieces of Astier de Villatte ceramics from ABC which were also demolished during the move. What is upsetting about this is not only the fact that the pieces were set apart from everything else in the apartment, connoting some sort of sentimental value but the fact that there was just total disregard for property. There was no bubble wrap and no heavy padding. Instead, one sheet of thin paper separated each of the pieces which would not be enough to carry the piece out of the store, even less make a journey as long as this. Shouldn’t this be a consideration since we are paying by distance?
I will not go into further detail about the mire of destruction that I have noticed while unpacking my belongings but I will say this moving company has made the move memorable for all the wrong reasons.
You have had a lifetime of collecting your belongings; each object has some sort of value whether monetary, utilitarian or sentimental. Although I expected some objects to break during the move, I did not expect it to the level that I have experienced. You deserve to have a company that would try harder to safeguard what you have worked so hard to obtain.

The crew showed up on time and were very efficient with moving boxes and furniture. I had availed the flat rate option (15 boxes and a few furniture items). I was moving to another apartment within the same building so it was easier (for everyone, including me). It took about an hour and 15 minutes, including dis-assembly/re-assembly of the bed.
I would advise to confirm the exact move terms (arrival time, crew size, number of items etc) as early as possible. My schedule had a hiccup (building wanted me to move 12 — 2 while Dumbo could move only after 1).
Overall, a good experience.

I hired Dumbo Moving to help me move from UES to Midtown East under a friend’s recommendation. The price quoting process was smooth and quick, and the offered price was lower than a few other companies I called. Dumbo Moving accommodated my change to postpone the moving without problems or extra charges. On the day of the moving, the company texted me when they were on the way, and the movers — Vladan and Filip — started working right away when they arrived at the pick up location. They were friendly, careful with my furniture and worked really fast with very little noise during the entire move. Everything arrived in the new place perfectly fine, and not even a single dish was broken on the way. I highly recommend Dumbo Moving.

moving is awful. dumbo was great!!!
price was fair, their support was very solid (insurance papers produced on time, billing was consistent with no surprises) and they did what they said they would do with no fuss. however, our two movers, vaso and his sidekick were just superb! lots of trips up four flights, no grumbling, polite to a fault and skilled in taking down and re-assembling a fairly complicated brass bed. their packing was meticulous and every single piece arrived in place without a ding. i was sitting on the back of the truck while it was double-parked and vaso reached into the truck for a pad for me so i would be more comfortable. unheard of!

Our move (which admittedly, with 4 flights of stairs, was not the easiest) felt smooth and easy thanks to Dumbo Moving. They were fairly priced — the best of the four companies we reached out to — prompt and efficient.
Customer service is great — they were always quick to get back to me and made sure we had the proper insurance paperwork needed to move into our new building.
Upon arrival, the movers surveyed the job and brought in an additional person at no charge to help move things along and make sure we were able to complete the move in a strict time window.
They made what can be a very stressful process completely painless. They’ll be the first company I call with my next move!

Wow! As one of the movers told me when I asked if I could help … «Relax and enjoy your move!» And I sure did! Three movers came to my apartment, totally on time and were very courteous giving me an extra 10 minutes to finish packing my bedroom before they rolled it. They were all super friendly and kind and we spoke about their respective home countries — Serbia and Montenegro — because I asked and I’m going on vacation there later this year. Fun coincidence! They were super careful with my stuff and went above and beyond, carrying my boxes up an extra unexpected flight of stairs and being cautious with my glass coffee table. They even put back together my bed from scratch with an entire set of tools. I couldn’t recommend this company enough. I gave the movers a huge tip because I felt the price itself was a great value. Do it!

Just completed a move with Dumbo movers. This is as painless as moving gets. We were floored with how quickly they got the job done. They showed up on time, quickly moved all the boxes, wrapped up our furniture and carefully took all our fragile things. They took apart all furniture that wouldn’t fit through doorways and wrapped our mattresses. At the new place everything was unloaded, furniture was rebuilt and placed where we wanted it, all within an hour. These guys are quick, careful, professional and thorough. We recently moved our Flatiron office with the help of Dumbo Moving & Storage. The move details were a little chaotic, but Dumbo was extremely accommodating in terms of nailing down a date and time and figuring out our moving list.
Not only did our movers arrive early (7:45 AM), but they came upstairs to greet us and take an initial look at all the items we needed moved. They were incredibly quick and efficient, and had us running ahead of schedule all day. They handled delicate items with extreme care and none of our things were damaged (despite the vast majority of our boxes being fragile glass). They made what could have been a really hectic and stressful day run very smoothly. We have used them in the past and will continue to use them in the future.

these guys are horrible they arrive 3 hours late ask for help taking apart furniture then refuse to re assemble the furniture upon delivery. A single mom with NO HELP had to hire someone and pay for what they REFUSE TO DOand then have the audasity to ask for a tip. I will be contacting the better business bureu and the state of NJ.

Though my move was coordinated by Shleppers Moving & Storage, Dumbo Moving & Storage arrived with my shipment. Though my beef was with Shleppers (for several issues leading to this date), I’d hoped Dumbo might provided better service. Unfortunately, the team lead, Alton, started out the transaction by stated I owed him extra money because I had 25 steps. I stated there were only 19 steps and that a ramp was available along the building. He stated he did not want to use the ramp so I would be charged $ 75 for an extra flight. I stated I was only told to bring a money order for $ 702.20 by the Shleppers Customer Service Manager but that I could write him a check as I did not have another money order. He told me he would only accept a cash payment. I said I did not feel comfortable giving cash, but that I could make a personal check out to Shleppers. He then began to argue with me, stated he could not accept a check. This went on for approx. 15 – 20 minutes. Literally arguing with me. I mean interrupting me, raising his voice, and stating, «I’m 39 years old, listen to me.» I told him I’m 35 years old, and his customer, and not to speak to me as a child. I asked him to let me speak several times, but he continued to talk over me. I reminded him of Shleppers delay in delivering my items, but he stated he didn’t work for Shleppers (though he was wearing their shirt). Finally he gave up and told me they would just bring everything up. For the rest of the delivery he huffed and puffed around, pouting like a kid. As I type this, his assistant comes in stating, «Are you hot enough?» Seemingly commenting on how hot he is and how I’m sitting at the dining room table (writing a BBB complaint, ironically).

I had to move from New York to New Jersey and was initially scheduled to move with another company for the Sunday of the 4^th of July weekend. Turned out the company had double booked and things didn’t go through and I was left without movers 5 days before the move.
I found dumbo moving company and they were very accommodating, especially during the 4^th of July weekend. Most companies were overcharging for that weekend but Dumbo moving had the same rate for the 4^th and even their higher rate on Friday was very reasonable compared to other quotes I was coming across so I was able to move on Friday instead of Sunday.
Steve’s crew were assigned to my move and they were nice, professional and made great time with the move. They also went through my inventory when they arrived initially and told me I had overestimated the number of boxed and furniture, so I should be getting a refund for the difference soon. They are great at their job and don’t try to take advantage of the customer. I would recommend them to all movers out there. Moving can definitely be a headache if you’re not with a reliable company.

Will keep this short and sweet. Moved from Manhattan to Queens last week, and needless to say the movers were fantastic! The only minus (not a big one) was that a few of my articles fell down and chipped, but they did not bother to let me know what had happened.
Nevertheless, the whole experience was great, Will, John and another gentleman did a great job in moving everything (except the sofa). I did not hear a single grunt from them, they seemed super positive throughout the move and definitely did no yelling or shouting at us (from what I have seen on other reviews). Also they were extremely well priced.
My only suggestion would be to communicate a lot better in the beginning of the sales process.

THE WORST EXPERIENCE IVE HAD WITH MOVERS EVER. THEY BROKE A LOT OF MY STUFF AND THE MOVER ACTUALLY YELLED AT ME AT SAID IT WAS MY FAULT FOR «HAVING SO MUCH STUFF“ALSO MISSING MY LAPTOP COMPUTER
1– They had a terrible attitude, yelled at me and acted like they were doing me a favor. They changed their price AFTER they were mid way through the move and i had no choice but to accept.
2– My laptop went missing after the move
3– They offered and had me pay for packing materials that they never brought, they handled everything with NO care whatsoever. They had me pay extra for a chandelier box and they actually carried it without even a blanket on it, hitting it on walls and door frames on the way to the truck, same for an antique mirror which they also broke.
4– They broke the leg off an antique sofa that was over 100 years old
5– They spilled bleach on my couch, broke off a table.
They caused thousands of $$ worth of damage and they had the nerve to offer me a $ 100 refund!
