Drybar – Greenwich Village

The blowout itself turned out as desired, but the overall experience was disappointing. Staff was cold/​snobby, coffee was lukewarm, wash temperature was extreme (at times super hot then freezing cold), blow dryer burned at times. It was all really just okay, not sure I’d return unless out of options.

Not my best Drybar experience. All in all it’s hit or miss at Drybar for me. From Santa Monica to Greenwich Village it is really who you get so that speaks more to the corporate training and standards than this location. Now for this location. I really appreciate having been taken without an appointment my wait was only 10 mins. Although I am always more liberal than most folks on this issue, if I wanted someone who didn’t speak english well to do my hair Chinatown is less than a mile away. The place I frequent there has an interpreter who is all over you making sure your stylist with minimal english skills gets it right every time. It’s 15.00 there.
When I go to Drybar I expect a different experience. My stylist asked me if I wanted «products» in my hair. I said I am not sure what you mean… do you recommend them for my chosen style– Blank stare. Maybe I should have called the manager over but its awkward. She was a lovely gal and I didn’t want to make a scene but I left with a style I didn’t like and so much product in my hair it fell that night!!! I have used this location only once which is a shame because its close to where I work out. Some of my Drybar blowouts have lasted 6 days and while I don’t expect that every time this experience was not worth it at all.

Huge DryBar fan and frequent customer of other locations. This was my first time at this location for a friend’s birthday and I was sadly very disappointed. They took me 30 minutes late and then my stylist had to rush to finish my hair in time for our lunch reservation. Not my stylist’s fault but definitely not a good experience. I will avoid this location in the future.

Got a blow out by Josephine yesterday… it was lopsided, looked nothing like the pic I showed her, and overall awful. I’m not sure how they hire people there that have no idea how to blow out hair. One side of my hair was flipped out, the other side curled under. HORRIBLE. WORST BLOWOUT EVER. Girl at front desk saw how terrible it was and even tried to get another stylist to fix it, but it was impossible. There was not enough time to wash/​re-​do before my event, so I had to go to a black tie totally mortified. They should be ashamed of themselves to have someone that obviously doesn’t know how to do hair working there, much less the nerve to charge for such a crappy job.

Weird experience. I’m intrigued by the whole «blow dry only» idea and wanted to check it out. Overall, it was a «meh» to me.
When I walked in I was offered tea or water and the front desk staff was professional yet not overly welcoming. I waited about 10 – 12 minutes for my stylist. I decided to also get the Mudslide treatment (cool bonus-​you get to keep what’s left in the bottle to take home). The wash was fine but my neck was very uncomfortable in the sink.
For the blowout, I wanted straight and sleek (Manhattan) but my stylist was pushy in selling «something different.» I ended up looking through the look book and deciding on beachy waves but overall wasn’t happy with the pressure to do something other than what I had requested and in the end I really didn’t like the style. The beachy waves ended up being curls that she brushed out and just didn’t really look that great. Not worth the money or time to me. I could have done the same at home and for much less money.
Additionally, nobody asked to take my coat so I held on to it the whole time-​a bit awkward and bulky. Another stylist was also on his phone, even while starting on a client, and overall the experience felt unprofessional. I was asked about tip at the end, which puts the pressure on the client to tip whether they like the service or not.
Will I be back? At some point, but likely to a different location and next time I will be adamant in getting the blowout I want.

They let me squeeze in an appointment with two hours notice. The atmosphere is great, staff is friendly. I love the orange in the water. I loved being at a place where I could relax and decompress after a LONG week. My stylist was happy to let me talk on the phone or just chill and watch TV.

I had such a pleasant experience at Drybar Greenwich Village… it was a much-​needed winter pick-​me-​up. All locations have that consistent luxury salon appearance, but this one seems even more intimate. After a 45 minute session, with a nice shampoo hair massage and blowout, I left feeling great with my Cosmo curls. And that glass of champagne definitely helped boost my mood!

I’m surprised by the negative reviews for this Drybar location. I’ve come here three times and walked away with a great blowout and having been placed with a stylist who didn’t have any sort of attitude (in reference to one reviewers story).
If it helps, I always request a stylist who is good with my type of hair, online in the comment section. Maybe that has saved me from mediocre blowouts.
I’ve had three different stylists three separate times. The front desk employees are always super friendly and this is the one location that never forgets my drink order. (Small gesture but I appreciate it.)
I have nothing to complain about with the shampoos; they’ll even happily do a second shampoo on me if I need it.
The sign for suggested tipping is something I appreciate. I don’t find it hostile at all??? I wouldn’t know what a good tip was, never having been a blowout person before, but the signage also doesn’t mandate that you tip a certain amount. And it’s also reminding clients to tip, period. You hand it over in an envelope so you can decide how much you’d like to tip. I like that process.
For the actual blowouts, these ladies have been the only stylists at a single location that didn’t fail me once. I bring in photos usually, and they nailed it all three times. My blowouts tend to last about three days; but that will depend on your hair type and probably less of a comment on your stylists talent. Just make sure to be very specific in the consultation process so you can at least walk away with the hair you envisioned. You might think you’re describing it perfectly but there’s always room for confusion.

So far I have been to this location twice. It is a little less chaotic then the Flatiron and Tribeca locations. Perhaps people are not onto the fact that it is open. Both times I have been pleased with the job my stylists did. The water did feel a little cold one time but I said something and it was fixed. Some of the reviews that are so negative seem to be really picky to me. I mean you could always stay home and do your own hair? I cannot blow out my own hair. I do not possess the round brush skills.

Mediocre service. The shampoo took about 10 seconds, the scalp massage was horrible and the water was cold. Never again

I usually patron the Georgetown location in D.C., but since I recently relocated to NYC, I was looking for a new location. But this one won’t be it. I found this location to be unprepared to style natural hair. Despite leaving a note requesting a stylist who is experienced with detangling and styling thick, long, natural hair (code for an ethnic stylist) when I arrived for my appointment at 7:15 p.m., I was assigned to a stylist who has straight, blonde hair. While I’ve been informed that all stylists are trained to handle all hair types, this stylist said she did not know how to curl hair with a flatiron after I showed her a photo of my hair based on the «Southern Comfort» style done at the Georgetown location (Tamia did an excellent job!). She told the receptionist that it would better if another stylist did my hair, which I agreed to (no sense in having someone do your hair if they’re unprepared or overwhelmed by it). The receptionist informed me that I would have to wait an additional 30 minutes to have a stylist who could style my hair like I requested. Around 8 p.m. the next stylist started on my hair, but she began detangling it while it was dry causing breakage. When I requested that she detangle my hair with conditioner, she became defensive informing me how old she was and how long she has been doing hair. I felt her response was unprofessional and unwarranted. She complained to the receptionist who told her to cooperate with my request. The stylist also said that she didn’t know how to curl hair with a flatiron. I’m surprised that both stylists said they don’t know how to curl hair with a flatiron when there are plenty of Youtube tutorials, and it’s a fundamental technique. It was 9 p.m. by the time my hair was blown out, so I abandoned the idea of having my hair curled. I requested the stylist to simply flatiron my hair (it’s pretty hard to mess up a straight style). Before I left the chair, the stylist apologized for her poor attitude, but my experience was already tainted. Suffice it to say, I was very disappointed with my experience, and will have to look for other blow-​out salons in NYC. It’s unfortunate because overall the Georgetown location did a good job and had a number of professional, competent stylists who could style natural hair (and curl with a flatiron). What’s more, I paid an additional $ 7 plus tip compared to the Georgetown location, which charges only $ 40 for a blowout.

Chelsea did an amazing job! My hair looked great and made the trip home safely :) My only issue was that they seemed to be overbooked, and even though I had a 2:15 appointment I wasn’t seen until 2:40…

Not sure why no reviews yet but thoroughly impressed with my service here! Made an appointment online — website could not be easier to use. After running into some truly horrendous transportation issues and showing up 15 minutes late, I was still accommodated after a few minutes’ wait. My stylist, Mark, managed to tame my curly hair perfectly and made sure throughout that I liked the way my hair was turning out. I’ve been to other blow out bars and no matter what Dry Bar I’ve been to, they always seems to do the best job. There are other locations of this chain that are easier for me to get to but I think I’ve found my place!
