Dr Darryl Wu, DDS

Pretty bad experience. I had two molars should be extracted and cleaned. Dr. Wu just persuaded me to get crowns for two no-​root teeth, one of them just 50% plastic, because I used to fill it. I told Dr. Wu, they swelled and had some bad smells. He just gave me some aspirin for FOUR times and told me to keep having them every time I complained about the swellings. No morals, no standards, totally money-​oriented. I spent almost one thousand dollars for NOTHING. My teeth finally was extracted six months later and the Dr. Wu asked me to recycle the crowns to him. The worst ever!

Be honest, he’s really not as good as I think. He created a bloody mass out of my mouth after about 15 min. This is NOT the first time I do clean in my whole life. I can take the pain but it’s not worth it. He also pointed out the cavity and asked if I wanted to fix. Actually I’m not sure if he broke those while cleaning. I went there only once and this is probably the last time of my visit.

I hate going to the dentist, but I’ve been coming back to Dr. Wu for deep cleaning for almost a year now. Dr. Wu’s patient and helpful. I’ve never met a dentist this patient with me before. I recommend my family and friends to come and they’re all happy with him. The staffs are really nice and the place is really clean! I highly recommend people to come here and give him a try.

I’m with Joyceeluv N. on this one — save yourself your $ and time and steer clear.
I’m currently in the process of submitting a complaint via the Office of Professional Discipline disputing overservicing and malpractice with Dr. Wu.
Firstly — let me start off with the fact that this clinic will make you wait up to around an hour for an appointment. This was the case during all of my 3 visits to Dr Wu (initial consultation + 2 deep-​cleaning/​scaling treatments). There is complete disregard and respect for patient’s time.
Secondly — Upon my first consultation, Dr Wu insisted that I get a deep-​cleaning which would require local anesthesia over 2 separate treatments. Money milking much? This is the FIRST TIME that I have been subjected to local anesthesia for a tooth clean. He had determined this treatment based on xrays in the clinic. The ‘gum/​tooth clean’ itself was a mere 10 minute procedure which was extremely rushed and careless. Furthermore, during my second treatment (mind you, the last appointment for the day) Dr Wu failed to administer the appropriate amount of anesthesia, so I did feel quite a lot of pain but put up with it as I had waited 1 hour for the appointment and wanted to get out of my appointment asap.
Thirdly — As my health insurance was running out, Dr Wu had assured me that my treatments would be covered. However, lo and behold, I was slapped with a mega $ 640 bill with an explanation from health insurance saying they would not cover the treatment as they were NOT necessary based on the xray/​chart sent in by the clinic. I was infuriated as this was contradictory to Dr Wu’s statement that I HAD to get these treatments done based on my dental records/​xray.
I am now in the unfortunate process of requesting Dr Wu to submit a written claim (which by the way, was NEVER submitted to the health insurance company — they only received an xray and a chart). I called the clinic last Friday asking to speak to Dr Wu personally regarding this matter and the unprofessional receptionist refused to put me on the phone, saying he was ‘too busy’. I had since paid the full amount via check to the clinic, and requested via email for Dr Wu to submit an appeal, with NO response from him or his staff. I am appalled with the unnecessary over servicing and unprofessional manner that this matter has been handled and urge any patients to go to another dentist, NOT THIS ONE.

Not a good experience at all. He was ok on the cleaning but he was terrible performing major procedures. I had a crown done on my tooth and right on the next day, the crown came off. i went back to his office and he didn’t apologize or anything. Obviously he did not care, he charged me $ 1000 for it and since he already got the money, he doesn’t care. I had to spend another $ 500 with another dentist. Please avoid wasting your money with Dr. Wu and go find a much more experienced dentist.

Stay clear of this dentist. He is the WORST dentist I’ve been to in my LIFE.
My wait was 5 minutes, follow by 6 xrays with a technician. Dr. Wu would then came in, comments on my teeth from 10 feet away telling me that I need braces. He than gave me a cleaning, the cleaning lasted LESS then 10 minutes and it’s VERY VERY painful!!! He yanked my lips open and forced his tools between my teeth. I waved for him to stop but he just kept going and finally after 10 minutes painful cleaning he was finally done. He asked me to come back for another cleaning. NO THANKS! My gums and teeth was sensitive for 3 weeks after the cleaning. NEVER again!

Under the recommendation of my mom, I went there for the first time. I called and got an appointment the same day, which was good. The waiting room was nice and clean, and they played some Hong kong variety show on the tv. I was quickly brought into the seat, and the assistant took my x-​ray. Then he came in, and with very little warning or explaination, he cleaned my teeth. It was rather painful, and he gave very little regard to how much I flinched or winced at the pain. Afterwards, he said I had some cavities, and cleared them out. I felt kind of like a deer in headlights… He did very little to make me feel relaxed or anything.

PLEASE don’t consider seeing him. He is not gentle, does not listen to your needs, and does not explain anything to you. His nurses don’t speak English so they probably can’t answer your questions fully anyway. If I’m indicating I’m in pain, you should be listening to me and start being more gentle. Every visit I come home either sore or with cuts and stuff on my gums. I’m definitely not coming back.

I have been to see Dr. Wu for quite a few years now and thought that it’s time to let others know about this wonderful little dental clinic and how much I love this place.
Now, we all hate going to the dentist. Don’t deny it. We ALL do. I dreaded going to the dentist before I found Dr. Wu not only because of the usual stuff (pain, scary white lab coats, icy-​faced employees… etc.) but also because I have one tooth which has a crown that bleeds incessantly during and continues bleeding for days after every cleaning. Because of that, for YEARS I was horrified at even the thought of going to a dentist.
I found Dr. Wu through a radio commercial. I know, how rare. But I hated my dentist (well I didn’t have a regular one because I hated all of them that I had gone to) and I really wanted to get my teeth checked out, so I figured might as well.
I was SO pleasantly surprised by the clean and comfortable setting of the clinic, as well as the huge tv that’s always showing HK variety shows. They were amusing even if you didn’t really speak the language. The employees there were all very nice and patient. So far so good.
Then I met Dr. Wu, who was totally awesome. He’s very knowledgeable, friendly, and patient. He’d listen to my rants about my past experiences and made solid suggestions for what I should do for my teeth. He’s also a professor at Columbia, which is an additional plus since that’s my alma mata. But the most important thing was, I totally felt/​saw a difference after he was done with my cleaning. I had NO bleeding, and the discomfort only lasted a short while (compared to the days before). He also tried his best to help me since I had no insurance.
I know it’s really bad to say this, but in Chinatown, you really don’t expect much in terms of service. But everyone at the clinic was extremely kind and put me at ease. I would recommend Dr. Wu to anyone who wants to (finally) find an excellent dentist that doesn’t charge exorbitant prices and speaks and understands both Cantonese and English perfectly so is super easy to communicate with!
