Dr Chen’s Acupuncture P.C.

If you want to step foot into a seedy closet-​sized operation with a bunch of people who aren’t qualified as doctors, only to have them try to scam you with a $ 4,500 insurance bill for one visit, then this is the spot for you.
The acupuncture itself was actually quite relaxing, but if you want to try it, please try to find somewhere reputable. Has anyone actually seen a Dr. Chen here?
They actually handed me 3 bags of these little black balls and called them ‘herbal supplements’ and told me to take 20 a day. Btw they claimed they cost $ 495 per bag. Google ‘Chinese black balls’ and see what you get. They are unregulated and dangerous, known to contain valium, and even steroids. Wow.

I had never done acupuncture before but I have to believe it should be better and more professional than this! Booked an appointment for 6:30pm during the week. Filled out many forms outlining my symptoms and concerns and stating that I was pregnant (just in case there were any precautions that needed to be taken). I wasn’t seen until about 7:10. OK, fine, I was understanding the same way I am when my doctor is running late.
But once I was in the room I waited another 10 minutes for somebody to come see me. They didn’t ask me very much, just said I had an «energy deficiency». Then I waited another 10 minutes for the acupuncturist to come in, only to say to me «So, you’re here for infertility?» WHA? I quickly corrected her, reminding her that I was pregnant (which she could have figured out had she read the sheets I filled out). OK, whatever. She proceeds with, «Well, since you’re pregnant, I can only use a few safe points.» She put two needles in my ankles without any explanation as to why, then told me to lay down (which I’m not supposed to do while pregnant). I had to find a towel to wedge under my back for support. Then I just laid there in the dark for 15 minutes while other women shuttled in and out of my room to grab things.
She came back, took the needles out, then told me to roll over on my stomach so she could out two needles in my neck. Uhm, again… I’m pregnant and can’t do that. So, I had to sit in a folding metal chair, half-​naked and hunched over the table with two needles in my neck. Again, no explanation of why the neck-​needles before I embarked on another 20 minutes in the dark. Even after the timer would go off in my room, I would still sit there and wait for somebody to come back.
My treatment was supposed to include Qi Gong massage, which amounted to being slapped around a little at the end by a woman that explained again to me that because I was pregnant I couldn’t have the cupping treatment. And I get pretty regular Qi Gong massage and know how amazing it can be. Then she insisted I come in twice a week for treatment.
This place seems to be a burn-​and-​churn office where they overbook people and crank them through without much care or concern. I witnessed another woman in the waiting room grow frustrated because they lost her charts and made her fill them out again. They never seemed to explain my treatment. And while I appreciate them needing to take a few precautions with my pregnancy, they also weren’t very accommodating to my condition. Insisting that I come twice a week only to spend 2 hours for 4 needles and feeling abandoned and misunderstood? I don’t think so. I am SURE there are better acupuncture options out there.
