Look, Devon & Blakely is and always will be your typical New York lunch takeout place. It’s a little less polished than the very big guys, clearly a family operation, but it does what it does well. Of course, not every D & B is as good as the next, but this is the best one I’ve been to. Solid better than average sandwiches (just finished a tuna that could be at home in any country club), not too bad salads, lower prices than most at this quality level. But where it really shines is the soup. Excellent soup. Love the lentil. Love the toppings bar.
Bonus points for the distinctive hiring practices (everyone is Indian; I bet the owner is as well)

Had never been here before but saw a sign for breakfast sandwiches and decided to go in. Everything was hot and delicious, honestly probably one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever had and it was a rather large sandwich altogether, though pretty messy. Definitely will go back

A solid lunch option if you’re short on time and work in the area, but I don’t foresee this place being a favorite. Several coworkers of mine adore it, as it has a make-​your-​own salad type bar (similar to Chop’t; they make it for you, but you customize it, like a Chipotle) and several soup and sandwich options.
Nothing was bad, but nothing was particularly outstanding, and you’re definitely paying for the «upscale» feel — though I don’t think the food is worth the price. That being said, there is a large open seating area by it, if you want to plop down for lunch or take a break from work while eating.

This used to be one of my go to lunch spots when I worked nearby. I loved their selection of soup. They would have a couple that they always had, and a rotating selection of others. They also usually had a vegetarian option which I could care less about but it was helpful if I went with others. They also had salads and sandwiches.

It’s midtown, it’s a deli. Whaddayagonnado.
Started serving breakfast a few months ago. You know, it would help a lot if you didn’t serve coffee that tasted like it was made inside a 747. My sophisticated coffee palette would describe it as weak, dirty, and burnt.

So Devon & Blakely is a somewhat more «high-​end» lunch spot. I put «high-​end» in quotation marks, because it may be a little bit better quality than some other spots nearby, but you’re sure as hell paying for it.
Today I got a «large» turkey chili and a piece of cornbread. It came to over $ 10.
The soups, even though they’re super expensive, can definitely be hit or miss. I’ve spent $ 8 on a large chicken pot pie soup, only to come back to my desk and find maybe 4 tiny pieces of chicken, a couple chunks, and about 70% «filling» which is a fancy way of saying they mixed flour with chicken stock. On the other end of the spectrum, I’ve had equally satisfying experiences. I actually really enjoy their chicken gyro.
The only reason they get 3 stars (and not 2) is because a a few girls in my office seem to like them. For some reason, girls specifically seem to love this place. The only people in my office who go here are girls, and as I look at all the good reviews… yup, all girls. Interesting. No idea why, but in my book, if I’m paying close to $ 10 for a cup of soup, it better be good… every single time.

If i can give this place no stars… i would, without hesitation. First time i fount hair in my food, which is completely nasty and unsanitary. Then, i ordered a bagel with salmon cream cheese. The women hands me my bagel and once i get to the office i come to find out she put jelly together with the salmon cream cheese (!!!). But the straw that broke the camels back was when i was ordering soup. I asked her for a small tomato soup, she then asks me «any toppings?» (note, that there are various toppings which you can add which sit in bowls together with spoons for their utilization), i told her jalapenos and sour cream… What does she do??? … she proceeds to take her dirty a** hands and puts in the bowl to reach for some jalapenos. instead of using the spoon (which clearly is there for her use). When i told her to please not reach in with her hands, and use the spoon… the lady looked at me as though i was the crazy one. Point blank, the people who work there are dirty, don’t care about your food, or being neat and sanitary. Someone from the health department really needs to go undercover and check this place out. IT IS DISGUSTING and something should be done about that before people get sick (oh wait, according to some reviews here, someone already did). Happy eating everyone!

I have been here twice and will never go back. I got chili both times and after the first thought this place was a gem– I love soup and they have so many options. The second time I got horribly sick from it! I know it was this place because I had only had toast that morning. Missed two days of work and ended up in the hospital. NEVER AGIAN!

It’s this great lunch place (mostly for the office-​folk). They have a wonderful sandwich/​wrap selection along with a «make your own». They have at least 10 different soups (tomato bisque is my ultimate favorite) and of course they have «make-​your-​own-​salads.» Now the hot thing in NYC is chopped salads. The salad’s here are DELICIOUS! This particular place has a peanut sauce which is to die for. The service is pretty fast considering the long lines they get.

Great variety. Never gets too crazy during rush hours and very well priced. Staff is all friendly.

Devon & Blakely is a good option to have around for lunch. I’ve never seen it get too crazy during the peak lunchtime hours – maybe because their prices are higher than other midtown lunch spots. They have the standard offerings of soups, salads, and sandwiches. Overall I find the food to be a bit bland. There are more exciting options out there, but if you just want the basics or work around the corner, D&B is a good choice for you.

This location of Devon and Blakely is hidden in the basement of an office building. Its larger than it appears, but can be crowded. The food quality is great, like other Devon and Blakely’s — but the price point can be a bit high for non-​food snobs. There is seating space outside the store, which is rather cold in the winter since it’s semi enclosed.
I like that they have a mini vegetable side dish section that can supplement a soup or half sandwich. That said, I can easily spend over $ 10 here for lunch, and I’m not even that big of a person.

decided to try this place out for lunch. nice space, normal selections of soup and sandwich.
read that their soup is good, tried their «buttersquash + apple», tasted like warm creamy apple sauce. got their mushroom bisque instead.
a large cup w/​a piece of bread for 7 dollars is slightly steep for soup prices. but i thought their soup was more chuncky and gourmet, i don’t deduct stars.
tasty soup, very good aromas, and nice sourdough bread, not greasy weird bread wrapped in plastic wraps like most lunch places.
mushroom soup — tasty but is VERY salty. toward the end, i became more and more convinced that they used a french onion soup base, added cream, mushroom slices, and knorr’s porcini mushroom block. not nearly as gourmet as I had thought.

I call this «the soup place». The sandwiches and salads are alright, but their soup selection is killer. Their lentil soups are fantastic and now that it’s summer they have some chilled soups as well! Try the chicken noodle, curried lentil or roasted corn chowder. yum!

Horrible. There was a piece of hair in my sandwich!

You know, I’m pleasantly surprised by Devon & Blakely. I am not a fan of the Midtown Chain Deli, in general. There should be a pox on Pax. I’d rather eat Hot Pockets (cue the awesome theme song!) than eat at Café Metro, and after the Great Pad Thai Horror of 2010, you’re never, ever getting me into the World Kitchen again. But Devon & Blakely is AOK. In particular, they’ve got a surprisingly decent selection of soup. And since I like soup, and I freaking hate Hale & Hearty, realizing that Devon & Blakely makes a decent soup has made my lunchtime soup finding a whole heck of a lot easier. The chicken & dumpling soup is good if you’re feeling a cold coming on.
The prices aren’t extortionate. Not cheap, but not ridiculous. Certe is generally better, but it’s menu is quirky, and sometimes I just want soup. So, Devon & Blakely, when I’m feeling boring, I’ll be back.
As an aside, if you like finance dudes in pleated pants, button downs, and cheap ties, Devon & Blakely is as good as any place to see them. I don’t, so it’s a good reminder of why I work in non-​profit land.

I don’t know if I can stress enough how much I LOVE this place for lunch. I used to walk by it all the time thinking that it was a snooty, expensive restaurant but really it is a hidden gem. Not too expensive (in the 6 – 9 $ price range). My all time favorite is their tomato, mozzarella and basil panini, the bread they use is so flavorful and when it is all warm and melty it is absolute perfection.

This is my fav soup place (close 2^nd is Au Bön Pain). Other than that, the salads and sandwiches are ok.
Fav soup is the Lobster bisque or corn chowder. I hate really salty soup and they usually do not go overboard with the salt here. You have to take the escalator down to get there, so a little off the beaten path.
