Dean & Deluca

Notorious place to visit when you come to NYC. I remember my daughter taking me to a location when I visited. They have grown since those old days. This location is my favorite.
Employees are friendly. Although the seating is limited if you are early you can get a stool at the counter. Coffee and pastry, quiche and items I purchase are comparatively priced to other places I frequent. You can buy just one cookie. I like that feature since too much of a good thing is not always good! The full size cookies I enjoy are $ 2.75. I love peanut butter cookie.
I finally took a lot of photos to go along with my review. The place is huge. Anything your culinary heart desires. Plus souvenirs if you’re from out of town!
I highly recommend a visit.

Best sea salt chocolate chip cookie. When I gave to my daughter she said «mommy can you buy me this every day» very chewy and fresh and crunchy at the edges. Overpriced for most of the deli food as well as pastries but very good quality. Their sushi is the best always fresh, and great spicy mayo.

Very good sushi and sashimi one of the best I have ever eat.
Do not hesitate to order when you plan to visit the MET or the Guggenheim.

Dean & Deluca is a chain in Manhattan and really epitomizes the Upper East Side. It’s an extremely overpriced, gourmet grocery store. All of the food looks gorgeous and what I’ve had is extremely good too but very overpriced. That’s minus 1 star. On the weekends, sometimes they have samples which is wonderful of course. Also, if you’re debating what hot entrees to get, they’ll sometimes give you samples too. It’s also a good place to get coffee which isn’t too overpriced and they have good baristas. The bakery looks amazing as well but I’ve just never had a reason to get anything from there. Dean & Deluca is the type of place that if you want an obscure type of oil that you can’t find in your Trader Joe’s or Gristede’s like say truffle oil, you can come here and choose from one of 15 different truffle oils. This is typically the reason why I end up in here. Also, beware of just say grabbing a juice or soda here. You might accidentally pick up a $ 15 small bottle of juice when all you really wanted was a $ 2 tropicana orange juice. It’s hard to find prices on things too so watch out. Their fruit and vegetables also look excellent and I’ve boughten some of them before but they really don’t last long in the fridge so I’d recommend only buying things you plan on eating day of. Oh and minus 1 star because there’s no bathroom here. Really, no bathroom?!

We are regular customers at Dean & Deluca’s Upper East Side location.
The lady behind the bread counter is particularly friendly knowledgeable and helpful when assisting with specific bread selection.
We enjoy the samples that are usually offered throughout the store and also the ambiance which will usually be a classical or jazz playlist.
As we frequently visit the store on weekends, it can be a little over-​crowded with long lines that can take a lot of time to wait through.
The coffee is most usually excellent and they have a great selection of pastries, cakes, pre-​prepared meals, salads and a large variety of international food products.
Price-​wise, Dean & Deluca is the other end of the spectrum from Trader Joes, but if you’re after something high-​quality and perhaps more specific — you’ll likely find it here!
We recommend avoiding here at peak times however as quality of service and overall shopping experienced is somewhat diminished.

Got a latte and tuna salad sandwich. Both were pretty good. I really liked the sandwich. Sometimes bread can get pretty soggy from tuna salad. Not so, here.

When I popped in and purchased my coffee and pastry I had zero issues. The women behind the counter were very polite and friendly. Also they were giving samples around the store which was nice because it’s nice to try something before buying it and not having a clue what it would taste like.
The line was a bit long as it was lunch time but moved fast, their stuff is a bit more expensive but it is more unique.
Another think I liked was the chopin piano music playing in the background, very classy and relaxing :/)

If you’re from Chicago, Dean and Deluca may remind you a bit of the good old days when Fox and Obel was the «It» luxe grocery store. Dean and Deluca offers a variety of high-​end palate pleasing delights. You’ll be tempted by the straight-​out-​of Condé Nast magazine inspired prepared foods catering to carnivores, vegetarians and vegans. If you’re on a budget, be warned. You can easily walk out with a three course $ 25 dinner for one (light appetizer, meal, drink and desert). Not too shabby for a quick meal before a show. Amazing cake (that we ate during intermission during Avenue Q). Great food and customer service overall.

The food and selection are mostly good here but, alas, for an emporium with such very high prices, the customer service needs serious work. Most of the people who work behind the counters should not be in the service industry. After one particularly annoying «attitude» experience, I decided never again despite its geographical proximity. At this price point there are far more welcoming places in the neighborhood.

These guys ignored me at two separate stations (panini/​deli & coffee bar) and gave me a cold, non-​grilled panini (they asked if I wanted it toasted; paninis by default are grilled) and although they ignored me at the coffee bar (talking amongst each other and acting as if customers were not supposed to be there) I finally got my order for «coffee with milk.» The sales associate was quick to shove me off «You’re good to go m’am. M’am you’re good to go» which was interesting considering she ignored me when I came to the counter in the first place but was happy to see me go as promptly as possible, not giving me time to put my credit card back in my wallet.
She did not tell me the milk for the coffee was separate, and I know this makes me sound like a crabby person but I NEVER get coffee at D&D so I didn’t know they didn’t put the milk in it for you (like every other deli around here) and so I got two blocks away without realizing I had no milk in my coffee. Thankfully I had some in the office but now it’s gone for the tea I was going to have later today.
The real bummer was opening up my «panini» and getting a limp piece of non-​grilled bread, COLD cheese and COLD egg and COLD sausage inside. I ordered the Brie panini because I wanted it melted over the grilled bread and other fillings.
Because they sealed the box around the panini I couldn’t tell it wasn’t grilled/​toasted and ask for it to be redone, had they packaged it in a clear box or merely wrapped it up in paper I could have told it was too cold to eat. Major disappointment especially for the price. Unbelievable. Shitty service, shitty attitudes, and bad quality product.

I grab some snack on my way to the MET. It’s a very fancy and healthy grocery store. Staffs are very nice and helpful. Love it! Hope they can open one in UWS

When in a city that has Dean & Deluca, we always stop in. This location is less tourist and more locals. The people working the counters were very friendly and happily answered any questions. Funny story, we walked up to the counter as the brussels sprouts we coming off the stove in the back and the smell was almost foul, we surveyed the surrounding diners for diapers and our feet for dog poo. The young lady who was preparing the brussels sprouts saw us making faces and came over to explain, we all had a great chuckle, she said that they were laughing at us in the back cause of the smell. We had a delicious espresso and brownie in the small seating area. What a good time.

While exploring the Upper East Side, we wandered into Dean & Deluca. The storefront caught my eye and I knew I had to see what this place had to offer.
It’s an upscale, gourmet market. They have a nice deli section, where they offer a variety of prepared foods, and impressive meat/​seafood, baked goods, produce and floral sections. There’s also an array of seasonings and vinegars, dressings, etc.
Dean & Deluca isn’t cheap, but the three dollar signs told you that ($$$). It’s worth it for quality. We made out with some cookies and some macaroni salad. Both were excellent!
Dean & Deluca is an Upper East Side gem!

Really disappointed with the red velvet cake I purchased here today. It was $ 40 for a 6′ cake– and really not worth the price! The cream cheese frosting was incredibly sweet and plastick-​y, and just reminded me of cheap Hostess cakes or Entemann’s. It was just gross. We had a party at work and quite a few people (including the honoree!) tossed their slice of cake.
On the other hand, the lady behind the bakery counter was exceptionally kind and offered great customer service. Alas, I do not go to Dean and Deluca for great service! I went there looking for a great cake! Very disappointed and wanted to warn others of the poor cake quality.

Super pricy but they have everything! Prepared foods, yummy soups, fun desserts — but you will $pend there.
If something is wrong, they will right it and I appreciate that kind of service. The staff is really nice and always helpful. Coffee isn’t the best in the city but it’ll do, even with a long line.
I’ll always end up here for anything needed quickly (but not flowers — whyyyy are the flowers so expensive?).

I came in thinking it would be expensive, super pretentious and mediocre quality. We ordered a coffee and a sticky bun.
We were pleasantly surprised! It was only expensive and slightly pretentious. The coffee was actually quite good, and the sticky bun was really excellent, really really good, definitely worth it.
It’s a little crowded inside, but yeah the baked good seem top notch.

Extremely cute market! Popular by demand. My sister and I were lucky to stop by the one located in the Upper East Side. We stopped in for vanilla lattes at the barista station. Quick service to take orders and pay, short wait for the actual product. They had a lot of people working at the time. My sister walked around hoping to pick up a special souvi for her husband but the other items there were on the pricier side.
The customers inside looked like people who dropped by during their break from work, which made me feel like everyone was moving really fast. They have several locations in NY so Unilocal the closest one to you! & order a vanilla latte — they were delish. I also saw that they had macarons — which had great presentation but unfortunately didn’t get to try.

If I had to guess what my own personal heaven looked like, I’d say a Dean & Deluca. I’ve always been a fan of the upscale grocery chain and think the quality of their products are unmatched. My sisters and I took our dad to New York City for Father’s day this year and we promised him a D&D picnic in Central Park.
The Upper East Side shop is not the largest and can get VERY congested at the entrance near the prepared food and deli case. As you make your way back, past the breads and towards the cheese counter, there is much more space to breathe and peruse. For our picnic, we selected a salad with mixed greens, pecans, goats cheese, cranberries, apricots, and balsamic vinaigrette, an eggplant caponata sandwich, quinoa salad, a turkey and swiss wrap, a loaf of delicious tuscan bread, hummus, and some fresh herbed chèvre. Besides the hummus, everything was outstanding. The hummus, made by Dean & Deluca, had too much tahini in it for my taste, but hey, that’s alright.
My single favorite part of the shop was the case of smoked salmon. I LOVE SMOKED SALMON. I couldn’t stop staring at it. It is perfect.
