Really enjoyed this Doctor. His nursing staff was so pleasant. I was extremely nervous before my endoscopy but my nurse really helped me to relax. Waiting for my results but so far they have really been great to me during my visits.

Initially, Dr. Alpert had a fab bedside manner; awards citing his compassion are placed prominently all over the office. I developed acid reflux and he prescribed a PPI (I’m not overweight and have never had any GI problems previously). On each of 3 subsequent visits, I complained of worsening symptoms, including racing heart. He basically said «Oh, I’m so sorry you feel so bad but there’s nothing I can do about it; why don’t you come back in six months or a year.» He also said I should see a sleep doctor for sleep problems. There was no particular personalized concern and certainly no sense of urgency. Well, things kept worsening and when my PCP (who had referred me to Dr. Alpert) discovered anemia (often correlated with PPIs), he revved into gear and called another GI, who immediately got me in for an endoscopy, then colonoscopy, then followup all within two weeks (test results take a week to come in). This new doc also told me panic attacks are very common with PPIs (ah! That’s why my heart races at night!). On learning of the anemia diagnosis, the attitude of Dr. Alpert’s staff (and Dr. Alpert) shifted from unconcerned to infuriated. The receptionist/​booker (Russian) yelled and was extremely brusque and very reluctantly «gave» me an appt to see him so I could discuss cutting the dosage — six weeks hence – ONLY because I insisted. Did not want the anemia test results. Again, no urgency. And then that Russian receptionist calls back and gleefully tells me she’s cancelling the appt and I should see someone else.
Sad to say, I think Dr. Alpert is living off his affable manner and just phoning it in – to the patients and to the pharmacies.
In retrospect, it’s weird that the hidden review on Unilocal was written by Alpert himself.
UPDATE: My new GI agreed to let me try my antacid (PPI) dosage by half; I revved into research mode and added iron-​rich foods to my diet and then backed off the PPI entirely. It was a rough coupla weeks but 1) no more anemia and 2) NO MORE PANIC ATTACKS/​HEART PROBLEMS AT NIGHT! Sleeping much better, which makes all the difference in the world. I hate to think what would have happened if I’d stuck with Dr. Alpert, and urge you to read up on ayurvedic remedies, apple cider vinegar, gluten-​free diets and amino acid powders like glutamine and acetyl l-​carnitine. A good doc is supportive and concerned.

I went to see Dr. Alpert because of pressure on my right side,
just below my breast and above, right on top of the rib cage.
Dr. Alpert did a upper GI Endoscopy and ordered xrays and blood test.
He said I had Gerd.
After that, Dr. Alpert did a colonoscopy and that checkout fine.
He also examined my stomach by pressing down on it and I did not have pain.
But the problem that, I walked into his office about, is still there,
and it has gotten worse, because now I feel that everytime I eat something,
it goes to the right side and it fills up some kind of tube, there is pressure.
Dr. Alpert said, that my problem was that I was too fat, he is right,
because I am 5 feet and weight 175 lbs.
Dr. Alpert was personable and took his time explaining test and procedures.
His staff was very nice.
But the problem with my right side is now more pronounced,
I feel like I have a beanie bag inside my body.
I’m going to Bellevue hospital in the morning,
because of these symptoms, to see what they say.
I am afraid to eat hard food, like tuna
for example, because it goes straight to the right side,
so now I can only eat soft foods.
It goes to the right side also, but doesn’t feel so uncomfortable.
Dr. Alpert’s feeling was that he did his part in conducting the exams
and now it was up to me to do my part and lose the weight.
He was very polite, but he had an I’m done with you attitude.
But I think he’s wrong and I have something in there, he just didn’t catch it.
It’s more pronounced and I can feel it.

Been going to him for years, as has my husband. He’s simply the best — warm, caring, concerned and a good practitioner.

Dr. Alpert is easy to talk to and attentive. He explained options in a very practical manner. Wait time is very short. Highly recommended.

Dr. Alpert is pleasant and personable. He is knowledgable, spends a lot of time with his patients, and expressed himself at a level easily understood by a layman without «talking down».
The members of the office staff are likewise efficient, pleasant, and professional.
