Description

Specialties

I am board certified in Family Medicine and an AAHIVM certified HIV specialist. For the past 20 years I have focused on adult medicine and routine preventative care including annual physicals, cancer screening, and general health care for community acquired infections and standard medical conditions such as hypertension.

I also have extensive experience in travel medicine, STD’s, and male aging.

As a nationally recognized HIV provider, I have over 25 years of experience in HIV diagnosis and treatment. I often provide second opinions on complicated cases or questions about treatment options. I write a medical column for HIV Plus Magazine and am part of the «ask the doc» panel for aegis.com.

Please go to www.danbowersmd.com for more information.

For concerns about accidental HIV exposure, please call my office as soon as possible to discuss the need for immediate preventative treatment (post-exposure prophylaxis).

History

Established in 1980.

Undergraduate — Stanford University — 1973

Medical School — University of Iowa — 1977

Residency — University of Minnesota Dept of Family Practice — 1980

After residency, I was invited to teach at the Minnesota Medical School. I also joined a clinic in Saint Paul where I practiced the full gamut of family medicine including delivering babies, setting fractures, performing minor surgery, and running a nursing home.

In 1989 I joined Pacific Oaks Medical Group in Los Angeles, the largest private practice in the country specializing in HIV. In addition to caring for my HIV patients, I conducted clinical trials for HIV drugs and maintained a large adult medical practice.

In 2008 I moved to New York where my practice is a combination of adult medicine and HIV.

Meet the Business Owner

Dan B.

Business Owner

I was born and raised in LeMars, Iowa, a typical midwest county seat community of 7000. We spent our summers swimming and sailing on Lake Okoboji on the Iowa — Minnesota border in a cottage build by my grandparents. I still consider myself to be a Midwesterner in temperament personally and professionally.

I have served on numerous boards including the Minnesota Opera Association, the Minnesota Chorale, and AIDS Research Alliance. I was on the national board of Lambda Legal for seven years and am now a member of its National Leadership Council.

My favorite avocation is choral singing, and I have sung in various community and semi-professional choirs.
