i didnt think my haircut was great, and honestly paying $ 35 for a cut in chinatown i expected it to be better. Mabel def rushed cutting my hair, i can feel it because she dont want to miss her next appointment whom was sitting next to me waiting. if your someone that loves your length of hair or if you just want a trim, she is def not someone you may want to cut your hair, because she will chop it all off. i didnt mind that she chopped mine off but i know some of you girls out there are worried that stylists will chop more than told. i walked in and walked out with the same haircut almost except it was shorter, but there wasnt a dramatic change… without the discount i dont think i would pay the price to come here. Overall, the receptionist and the hair washer are very nice. the place doesnt look as fancy as cutting edge.

Very cute and cozy new salon. Dennis is the bomb diggity. Explained carefully that while a pixie cut is possible for me, it is high maintenance and styling. Always listens and does the best version of what I think I want. It always grows out so nicely that I almost hate getting a cut

Jason & Dennis gave me an unforgettable experience. (keep in mind, that I NEVER dyed my hair in a salon before. So I was very iffy about where to get my hair done.)
I walked in basically not knowing what to do with my hair. but all I know was that I wanted something done. All I told them was that I wanted something ombré or ombré-​like. I didn’t care what color it was because I’m a really indecisive person. But I didn’t want it to turn out looking bad either. Jason & Dennis was so patience & helpful because they sat down with me, took their time & walked me through step-​by-​step what look they chose, what they were going to do, what color they were going to apply, how the end result will look like, & etc.
I sat in a chair for basically the whole day & I even fell asleep in my chair (lmao, embarrassing, I know, but I was really tired) when they were still working on my head. They did their best on my head while keeping things gentle & slow so that they wouldn’t wake me up unless they really needed me to. At this point, I wouldn’t blame them if they messed up. but they didn’t. They’re both really professional at what they do & they always took that extra step to make sure everything comes out perfect.
In the end, I LOVE what they did with my hair even after knocking out while they were working on me. highly recommend anyone that feels iffy about salons coloring their virgin hair to give this one a shot! Cause I did. ;)

A few words of advice: don’t waltz into Cutting Edge triumphantly waving your Unilocal check-​in until you are certain you are at the right location, as you may be in Cutting Edge *Salon*, which is literally one block away, and does not offer the check-​in discount. (You need to walk up some stairs to get to Cutting Edge Z.)
After my initial location mix up, I entered the correct location and told the two women at the front that I wanted to get my hair cut and did not have an appointment. They did not seem very friendly at first, but it’s probably because I speak very quickly and overwhelmed them. I checked with them the price ($ 33 for cut and wash, not including discount) and told them I had the $ 10 check-​in discount. They took my coat and offered water or Coke.
One thing about this place is that they definitely don’t rush. They spent between 10 – 15 minutes washing my hair alone! If you really Need a head massage, this is not the place for you, because they don’t really do that here. (I don’t care.) Then they spent a good amount of time cutting my hair. Both the hairstylist and the shampooer were very nice and friendly. The hairstylist offered tips for my hair cut and how to style it, and checked in with me repeatedly to make sure I was comfortable with the look.
I am not very fussy about haircuts but I thought mine looked just fine. (To be honest, all of my haircuts look about the same to me even when I went to expensive salons.) The great price (even without the discount) sealed the deal! I recommended this location to a friend. Great option if you are looking for something that does the job at a good price. Probably good for people who get anxious over minute differences in hair length as well, because they kept checking if I was OK with the length throughout the process. Oh and finally — I spoke in English the entire time and it was not a problem, in case anyone is worried about that.

This is the only place I go to get my haircuts! I would usually have to make a appointment in advance as I have a specific hair stylist. Dennis is my hair stylist a and he is great! He knows exactly what I want and how much I want him to cut. Even when I think I want more inches off he would advise me not to. He would know what kind of cuts best fit my face shape and what wouldn’t look good on me. I never have to explain myself. since I’ve been going here for years. every time I sit down; Dennis would ask how much today? and he would start cutting.

I just followed Dennis from Cutting Edge to Cutting Edge Z. If you are looking for a long hair cut/​highlight on long hair, ask for Dennis.
You won’t be disappointed. He is absolutely the best. He never pressures me into getting anything that I don’t want to get. He never sells any extra products or service. It’s me who asks him what are the extra things that the other customers are doing.
He’s always so patient, and he will talk to you first before you do any coloring or any cutting.
He’s usually quite busy, so he’s almost never available if you just walk in. Try scheduling 3 – 4 days ahead of time.

I had been going to Cutting Edge, now Cutting Edge Z for more than 5 years. Not that I should mention how good Dennis is so it will become a hassle for me to make an appointment with him in the future. The new location is not as roomy, though a lot more energetic and family-​like. It is cozy and relaxing, and the price is very fair. If you are new to the area, give them a try and you will love it.

Mable is the best. There is a $ 10 check-​in offer for any in salon service going on now. A $ 38 haircut and style with Mable easily became $ 28. What a steal.
I had a horrible haircut 3 months ago in which the gentleman chopped off the front pieces of my hair while the rest of my hair was long and overtly thinned out past my chest. My hair was disconnected in all places and looked like a grown out mullet.
I finally took the plunge today and decided to just chop my hair off. It just wasn’t worth it to deal with a butchered cut just to try to preserve my long hair. Booking an appointment was a breeze. The receptionist is fluent in both English and Chinese. Upon entry, I checked in at the front desk and did not have to wait at all for my 3PM appointment even though I arrived a few minutes early. I was then given a robe and escorted to the back by I believe Jason? for a wash. My shampoo left a lot to be desired for. Not even a tiny massage to go with it and a lot of scratching of the scalp with nails. I didn’t enjoy it one bit and wanted to get out of the sink asap. Definitely faulting him for that, but Mable is seriously so good that I can’t lower this rating by even 1 star.
Onto my hair sesh! This lady is not only funny; she’s also highly skilled and knows what she’s talking about and knows what she’s doing. We officially met today, but she actually remembered me from when I use to find my sister at Cutting Edge when she had haircut appointments. Anyway, we decided to go shorter and do a straight, but not blunt haircut. She informed me that even though I don’t like layers, minimal layers would give my hair a softer look. Mable is very* opinionated, but in a good way. She will tell you like it is without offending you. She will not listen to you if she believes what you want won’t look good. But she’s not a know it all and will explain to you why what will work and what won’t work. She doesn’t rush either. Asian hair should be easy breezy right? Well, she still took a good hour+ on my hair and went through the whole process explaining why she was doing what she was doing, and teaching me ways to style my hair after. We ended up cutting maybe 4 – 6 inches of my hair off and I am absolutely in low with my new do, and my new stylist!

I got a haircut by mable today. She is a good hair stylist. She listens what i want and give feedbacks on what would suit me better. I would recommend her since she has been cutting my hair for two years now.

I have been getting my haircut by Mable for 2 years and I have been going to Cutting Edge for about 3! Mable is my favorite hairstylist, and she really knows what she’s doing. She takes her time to cut your hair and ensures that everything is perfect! I have never had a bad cut from her. She’s sweet and really does a great job. I highly recommend going to this salon and getting a cut by Mable!
I have also had my hair ombré’d at Cutting Edge in the past, and they do a great job at it. My friends get their hair colored with cool funky colors and it always turns out great!
The new location is smaller, but still very comfortable. The prices are great and so are the cuts and dyes! go go go! great salon!

I’ve been getting my haircut by Gary for a while now. He’s a very talented hairstylist – he gives great advice on any haircut ideas you bring in. I get compliments every time I get a fresh cut.
I went from shoulder length hair to a pixie cut a while ago (which is no easy feat considering how thick my hair is.) He did an AMAZING job. I trust him 100% with my hair.
Update: I’ve also gotten a haircut by Neal – it came out great! It’s actually looking even better as it grows out. He’s very detailed and thorough.

I’ve been coming to Cutting Edge Salon for over 5 years now. Ever since Dennis moved over to Cutting Edge Z, I followed him asap! He’s super patient with everyone and he knows what kind of hair style will fit you the best! Love the professionalism and care they give to their customers. Btw, the new salon looks amazing!

All of my favorite stylists moved to this location. They always get it right with the cut and color. Jason and Neal are great, they really pay attention to the details, I almost fell asleep once cause of how much time they are willing to spend to make sure the layers are right. High recommend!

I’ve been getting my haircuts from Mabel for years now. She is just amazingly talented and meticulous, I always get compliments on my hair cut and I can’t trust anyone else! The new location is great– still trendy, but definitely cozier with natural woodsy accents, and I have to say the staff seems friendlier. The cut was around $ 33, and I did a double bleach process which came out to under $ 200. Other places charge twice the amount! Highly recommended!

For the longest time, I have wanted to dye my hair with an extreme color but never had the courage to until I met with the hair stylists at Cutting Edge Z. I consulted with Mabel & Neal and both gave me a detailed explanation of the process and their opinions on how to get my unicorn mane (step by step process, how much bleach my hair could handle, how to manage, etc). Throughout the process, they would inform me of what they were doing and constantly check in to make sure my hair was doing okay and handling the bleaching process rather then just doing the motions and leaving me in a state of confusion with damaged hair, which has happened in my past experiences.
I truly felt taken care of as a customer and am extremely excited and in love with the outcome! If you’re looking for an amazing experience with people who truly care at an awesome price point, this is DEFINITELY the place to go!

Absolutely 100 STARS for hairstylist (Jason Li) This palce is highly recommend to who looking for the best hairstylist!!! Fabulous color and styling~~ Love the color jason done for me so muchhhhh when every time i look into the mirror. They also give out discount if u make appointment! Just so you all know, after I received a haircut from Neal and I walked around my block I have people complimenting it… So go for Neal!!! Why not for a great haircut and look great!

Jason cut my hair but it’s the worst haircut I have ever gotten. Took two hours for a trim and didn’t layer my hair properly. Been coming here for years but I am not sure if I will anymore.

I’ve been getting Neal for a while and he really gives me my money’s worth, I got my haircut for almost 2 hours! He is very precise, polite, listens to my opinion and works to the best of his ability. He also gives me styling tips and tells me how to take care of my hair. He stops a few times between the cuts to ask if the the length is good. Neal is also very hilarious, he attempts to keep a conversation going on so I don’t get bored! For $ 33 I think he is definitely worth it!
I used to book for Kenneth but he is always busy and fully booked. But, he is still an amazing hairstylist too!

SO excited mabel from cutting edge moved to this new location! Love the décor in this salon, the wooden accents are absolutely adorable.
Apart from that, mabel is truly an artist. She listens to what you want but also gives you a bit of her suggestions so your hair will turn out stunning. Her color processes are great too! After going to multiple salons, I decided to give her a try and she was the only stylist who was able to cover my all blonde hair without going all black. Most other stylist will try to sell you on this treatment or that product but Ive never had any of that with mabel.
Book ahead of time this place will get busy. She’s a true gem and you will not regret it!
