Courtyard New York Manhattan/Upper East Side

I stayed there for 5 nights and had a great experience. They have a swimming pool & gym. The room was very clean and spacious, and the bed was really big & comfortable. Staff was very polite and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

I stay at Marriotts all the time for my work — many, many nights per year, so I think I’m qualified to say that this is one of the properties that you should AVOID.
When I went to check in recently, it became apparent that the Marriott Reservations phone operator had screwed up the reservation (a room with a king bed rather than two queens) and the hotel was already fully booked for the night. Ok – it was a mistake, and that happens sometimes.
Unfortunately, front desk clerk Monique Swabi was on duty, and when I asked her what solutions she could offer (find a room at another hotel, find us a roll-​away cot, etc.), she just laughed in my face, like all this was way beyond her job description. I’m sorry, Monique, but Marriott screwed up the reservation in the first place, so don’t you take any responsibility for helping to solve the problem? No, she was just sarcastic, rude and had this little «well, sorry, that’s tough shit» attitude that made my blood boil.
We eventually found another room at another Courtyard Marriott in midtown, where the clerks and staff were polite, helpful and professional. But I have to say that the contrast between that property and this Upper East Side property was jarring. JUST AVOID THIS HOTEL and go to the Marriott in midtown or just about anywhere else in the Marriott chain. Unfortunately, there are only a few people like Monique Swabi in the Marriott system, and shame on this hotel and its general manager for tolerating her bad attitude, but until she is fired, I would recommend you stay away.

One night stay. Really nice hotel, especially the price in comparison to others with the same amenities (private bath, queen size beds, pool, etc). Our only issue with the hotel itself was the room temperature; had the thermostat set to 60 because we like to sleep in a really cool room, but room never got cool enough. Even had the window open. Another downfall was the shower curtain rod; it was rounded out and slanted down, so it didn’t really stay open.
The guy that helped with our luggage storage (concierge) was AWESOME! Matt helped us figure out how to ride the subway and made our stay even better!

Response, somewhat well taken on location. Housing project aside, you are in a real neighborhood away from the perils of Times Square. Walking the Upper East Side to the South is an enjoyable undertaking. Raised my review by a star.

The service here was pretty good. Very helpful attendants at the front desk and at the curb for car services. The rooms were clean. I enjoyed our view. The price tag is pretty hefty, but it’s Manhattan, it’s to be expected! My only complaint would be their TV service… For $ 600/​night, you think you could at least get TiVo or cable or PPV or something! We got a 32″ screen with basic tv channels! Total bummer

A rare and surprising find! We were looking for a hotel in upper east side while visiting friends. This property was the perfect location for us. Staff was friendly, courteous and very accommodating. No on site self parking. However, hotel offers valet parking. We parked At Brittany lot across from hotel for $ 30. Per night. Rooms were very clean. Bed was very comfortable! No restaurant or bar on site, which isn’t an issue because there are many restaurants and bars within walking distance. Nice pool and gym! Complimentary morning coffee and tea in Lobby was much appreciated. I will definitely return to this property!’

Really clean overall, nice amenities, free coffee, that GM was very knowledgeable of everything around the area, bellhop service was A+, really enjoyed the place, cozy, quiet, very friendly staff, only drawback was there was no restaurant at the location, no room services.

Our experience at this Courtyard Marriott hotel was a really good one. It is located sort of unfortunately, but everything else was great. Staff was generally friendly and everything from check-​in to check-​out was simple and fairly quick. The area felt safe and our rooms were a very decent size for Manhattan standards.
If you have limited mobility or wish to do as little walking as possible, keep in mind that the public transportation options from this hotel are pretty limited. Most of the days we stayed, we had to walk a good 15 – 20 mins to and from the bus or subway. There is one bus really close by, but it didn’t really take us to the places we were trying to get to most of the time.
Down the street, there is a bagel shop called Bagel Bob’s. Take the bus at the end of the block and it is a stop or two down. I don’t have a lot of New York Bagel experience, but that place was incredible. Good place to have breakfast if you’re staying at this location!

Amazing staff. Very clean and quiet. Good toiletries. Great free coffee. No bicycle parking. Lower the rates.

I am constantly traveling for work and often to New York. I try to give my friends a break by not crashing in their shoe box apartments and prefer to not sleep on a couch so I always look for a hotel when I’m in town for work. I’ve tried to exclusively book with Marriott as I’ve had great experiences with all of their brands from top to bottom. New York can be pricey and the Brooklyn Marriotts that I’ve stayed in previously have out priced themselves a bit for my budget, but I ended up getting a great rate here and figured what the heck. It’s one of the nicer Marriotts that I’ve stayed in here in New York. It’s clean and pretty spacious as well. It is a bit off the traditional beaten path of New York City so if you’re a tourist that wants to be in the glitz and glam of Midtown don’t stay here. It’s actually in a great and quiet neighborhood with all the essentials you could really need with shops, bars and restaurants. It’s a little hike to the nearest subway line, but that will change when the 2^nd avenue line eventually comes in. Great staff, great stay. If the price is right next time I’ll be back again for sure.

Two Queen bed rooms are not available everywhere so we felt this was a good compromise for the 4 of us between location and price. Our room was well isolated from street or hallway noise and with such comfy beds we actually slept! The room was in good condition and very clean. The staff kept us well stocked with towels, toiletries and coffee supplies. You can find hot chocolate and half & half in the lower lobby with the coffee. It is a 0.5 mile walk to the subway through neighborhoods with lots of small restaurants, markets, etc. which did seem like a long walk at times but being close to the park and museums is really nice. Overall the peace and quiet were worth the walking.

The room was very spacious and was very clean and nice! The bed was so comfortable! I shared a king bed with my friend and didn’t even notice if he got up or moved around. The bathroom was big as well! Very nice front desk and very helpful! When I return to New York I will definitely be staying here again! Oh! The ASPCA is right next door too and you can go in and visit all the adorable pups and cats and possibly adopt one if you are able to open your home up! Definitely met all of my expectations!

This was the most disgusting and least customer service oriented hotel I’ve ever stayed at by far, and the entire experience was awful from start to finish. We were staying for a single night for my wife’s 30^th birthday. The room was paid for in advance ($ 400).
Check in time is any time after 3PM. We arrived at 4:15PM with a birthday cake in hand, and were told that our room was not ready. I informed them that I had already paid for my room in advance and they’ve had plenty of time to prepare it, so there was really no acceptable reason for this to be the case. They agreed, said sorry for the inconvenience. The front desk clerk said «Maybe there is just a mistake and the status of your room hasn’t been updated. I’ll call the floor manager.» So he does and I wait a few minutes. «No, your room hasn’t been cleaned yet, feel free to utilize our mini market [at your own expense] and sit in the lobby while you wait with your items for a room to open up…» After explaining that I’m only here for a single day, and we’d really want to go explore the city, the front desk clerk offered to hold our bags and take them up to our room once it opened up. I agreed at first and another employee came over and started collecting our bags, but then I realized that we had the cake, so I asked what they would do with it. At this point the front desk clerk came over to us and said that our room was ready… I was pretty skeptical… and for what would become good reason…
Ok, so we get our room keys and go up to our room. There is a super strong lemon cleaner scent near the door to get inside the room… suspicious. We walk into the tiny dingy room, and look at the bed covers. All the bed linens are wrinkled, and there is dried blood on both bed covers, and a little bit on one of the bed sheets!!! EWWW! Ok, so you’ve sent us up here and have not changed the sheets between guests… NICE. Call front desk, they apologize but say it’s probably from the cleaning company they use. Supposedly they sent back clean (but bloody) sheets. Highly doubtful, but after a few minutes of arguing, they agree to replace the linens on the bed and we go out to enjoy our night in Manhattan [albeit very frustrated at the start].
We then come back to the hotel around 11PM or so. Get up to our room [fingers crossed]. We enter. The linens have been altered, but wait a minute… The bed on the right still has a dried blood stain on it… and wait… IT COULDN’T BE! It has the exact same dried blood stain that the bed on the left had. We took pictures of the stains for customer service purposes later on, and sure enough, they took the sheets from the left bed and placed them on the right bed! WHY THE F%#$ would anyone do that! I can’t even believe it. So I call the front desk to berate them for a situation I can’t even believe. In the meantime my wife goes to take a shower and I hear a SCREAM! There is a red/​brown BLOOD CLOT all over the liner in the shower… This is getting super disgusting and to the point of ridiculousness now.
Housecleaning comes up and acknowledges that the exact stain was transferred from one bed to another, replaces the linens on that bed in front of us now, and gives us a new shower curtain. Decided to check the mattresses for bed bugs. Didn’t find bed bug evidence, but found MORE BLOOD instead! We slept with our clothes on, on top of all the linens and used our own clothes as pillows that night…
The hotel offered us nothing in the way of compensation for the atrocious conditions, and we ended up getting a $ 50 refund from
just because they felt bad for us. This is by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at, and with their disgusting linens changing policy (combined with the high price) I would never recommend anyone stay at this hotel. Any 2 star motel would be as clean or cleaner (I’ve never seen blood on my sheets and shower curtain before, so this is pretty much a given).

While this accommodation was pricey, it seems to be that that might be the case everywhere in New York.
The staff were delightful and very helpful, the building was very contemporary and the room, though not particularly spacious, was clean and the bedding was to die for!
The neighborhood is safe for walking around and there is restaurants EVERYWHERE.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

I had such a great stay here. The hotel is very clean and well kept and for people like me those two qualities are extremely important. Considering that it’s NYC the room that we had was a nice size. The beds were very comfy and the room itslef cozy. Spotless bathroom (again very high on the important qualities list). But the hotel staff here is what really made me enjoy my stay. So helpful and so polite. Very knowledgeable of the area and gave great recommendations for dining. The closest subway stop is about a 10min walk but that’s only because some of the blocks are pretty big it’s actually not that far. I would definitely recommend a stay here to friends and I would definitely stay here again myself.

We stayed here half a dozen times and this really is a hidden gem in the upper east side. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms are gorgeous, the staff at check in and out is always very nice and helpful. This hotel does all the right things. The lobby is also really pretty and comfortable. The internet in the rooms works good. This hotel has everything you’d need in a hotel room, in a clean and efficient way. Great job Courtyard. Also a shout out to the bellhops, they are also so nice about letting me know when the shuttle is there to go back to the airport.

Pre-​Contiki hotel for one night– a nice taste of Upper East side. Got a great room to myself with a huge queen/​double bed that was a dream to sleep in. A bit squeezed for space due to the bed and with my massive near-​end-​of-​trip suitcase. Free wifi which is nice and very handy. Nice lobby where we had our meeting with lots of couches around. Didn’t have much time to make use of their an indoor pool and whirlpool or fitness room. But it’s there if you need it.
Nice hotel

I really liked this hotel. The pool and hot tub are nice, but they close early on the weekends. We were there on a Friday night and it was open until 9 but I would have been unhappy if I wanted to go in on Saturday night and it closed at 6. The rooms were clean, we did have a small issue with our bedding but we called the front desk and they came up and changed all of the linens right away. The staff was really friendly, they remembered you when you went in and an out and were really helpful with our bags etc. Check in was smooth and easy, no problems there. The room wasn’t huge but big by New York standards and the bed was really comfortable. I would definitely stay here again.

I had a great experience here on a one night trip with my family for some sightseeing. It is in a great neighborhood but quite a distance from the major tourist spots.
Everyone on staff is super friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and up to date. Very well done!

Cons: Dirty. Nothing like the updated courtyard photos. Huge amount of dust buildup on the air vent. Hair in the tub and on the floor. Lamp shades are tattered. Not in a convenient location to subway station. Ice is located on basement level. Not worth the money (you can find clean boutique hotels all the time in Manhattan for better or same rates and in convenient parts of town.)
