Description

Specialties

Context is a group of architects, historians, preservationists, art historians, chefs, journalists, and scholars of various stripe who organize in-depth, small-group walking tours of New York City. Walks run daily, or on request, are limited to no more than six participants, and appeal to intellectually curious visitors and residents. Subjects include «archaeology of Manhattan,» «immigrant cuisine,» and «midtown Modernism,» as well as more traditional tours of Greenwich Village, Brooklyn, and the museums (Met, etc.).

History

Established in 2003.

Context was started by Paul Bennett and Lani Bevacqua, two New Yorkers who, having traveled around the world, discovered that the key to understanding a culturally-rich city like New York lies with finding the right expert, a specialist in whatever topic you’re focused on. Drawing on Bennett’s experience as a journalist, they started a network of scholars, researchers, professors, and other experts who are passionate about their city and willing to share their knowledge of the city with interested visitors.
