History

Established in 1989.

Or Zarua is a traditional, participatory, and egalitarian Conservative synagogue. Visit us for Shabbat services, on Yom Tov, or at our weekday morning minyan, 365 days per year!

Now in its 27th year, Congregation Or Zarua has distinguished itself as a vibrant, innovative and involved urban synagogue. Our congregation is centered on three fundamentals of Judaism: Torah (study and practice), Avodah (religious worship), and Gemilut Hasadim (doing good deeds). While traditional and authentic in our Torah study and religious observance, we are an egalitarian, Conservative synagogue, offering men and women equality in all aspects of religious worship, participation and leadership. Founded in 1989 by Rabbi Harlan J. Wechsler and a group of visionary lay leaders, Or Zarua is a small, caring and spiritual community eager to extend its love of Judaism and Jewish learning through our services, Hebrew School, adult education, community service and programming.

Meet the Manager

Rabbi Bolton S.

Manager

I hope you’ll notice the wealth of programming we offer here at Or Zarua. Whether you are an arts person, into tikkun olam and social action, love discussing Torah on Shabbat morning or like to be inspired by musical, traditional, egalitarian t’fillah, you’ll find a spot at our shul. As the rabbi of Or Zarua I am honored to offer classes, help guide people through the joys of life or times of sorrow, and to discover how living a Jewish life enhances our everyday experience of the world.

We seek to expand our community with your presence, and to increase serving the varied interests of our members. It’s easy to get involved. Please be in touch to let me know if you saw something you want to know more about, or to just meet. I hope to see you at services, at an O“Z program or class!
