City Lobster & Steak

Came here with some friends for restaurant week. The entire experience kinda started on an annoying note. 3 out of 4 of us got there for our reservations, but the hostess said she couldn’t sit us until the entire party was present. This is understandable on a busy Sunday afternoon during prime brunch time… but it was a Tuesday night and looking around the restaurant, it was about 30% full.
So, we awkwardly waited by the front, and we almost left because the restaurant had a weird smell. Reminded me of a mix of old man cologne and seafood. It was particularly strong by the front door, so my group did discuss the option of leaving and going somewhere else.
We decided to stay and were soon seated, and immediately given menus. Then after we decided what we wanted, we waited an uncomfortable long amount of time for someone to come take our order. At a few points, we raised our hands but continued to go unnoticed.
Finally, our waiter came to take our order. Despite the long waiting, the waiter was really great. After we ordered, he was sure to keep checking in with us, and was very helpful at breaking some lobsters open for us. The rest of the night went well. Food was decent, and portions were big.
Would I come again? Very doubtful. A part of me regretted not going to red lobster instead and saving a lot more money for slightly better service.

I went to this restaurant during restaurant week 2016 with my better half and I must say the food was amazing and so was the service. We made our reservations online and got to the place a little early. The host sat us at the bar and we had a drink while we waited. About 20 mins later we were seated at our table and it was in a booth… major plus. We got the menu and was told about the specials that were happening that night. The host gave me a menu of 100+ listings of wine (maybe I’m exaggerating, lol) and I could not decide. The host was very nice and took our order for the night and came back and asked how I was doing with deciding which wine to drink. He suggested wine and answered any questions I had. He was polite I just wish I remembered his name.
Anyway, the food was great, hot, and fresh. Baked clams, calamari, filet mignon with the crab meat is a must try!!! But aside from that the desert was very very good. I had the crème brûlée cheesecake and my boyfriend had the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Both deserts was amazing and I am so happy that I went. I will be attending restaurant week at this location again!!!

Arrived here on a Tuesday night for restaurant week. Our party was still arriving, so the hostess up front refused to seat us. Normally I would understand, but the restaurant was far from capacity so that didn’t really make sense to me. Also the front entrance has somewhat strong lobster tank smells.
Once we were finally seated, it took a good 15 minutes or more before our order was taken. Note: the still water tasted unfiltered. Over the course of the night, I raised my hand up quite a few times like a eager school girl trying to answer the question right, but not once did a server take notice of our table, which was a bit off putting. But once he did come to our table, he was attentive.
The food was average, nothing spectacular. It seemed like the typical restaurant you would bring your clients to for lunch or dinner. I ordered the shrimp cocktail, lobster ($ 10 surcharge), & crème brûlée cheesecake. The shrimp cocktail was average, the shrimp did not taste particularly fresh, the lobster was good… but once again, not particularly fresh, and the crème brûlée cheesecake was good, but not amazing. All in all everything was just good/average…nothing amazing.

I was here Monday 12:00 noon lunch time. Few guests on tables but I was not served immediately. I had to signal for a waiter. He said ‘she would be coming’. Few minutes later, the same waiter got my order. Asked him., Where is ‘she?’.
Ordered resto week PF lunch baked oysters and Im Pei mussels and lime cake for dessert.
Not too impressed with mussels:(Lime cake was good.
Finally, got served the wrong receipt $ 94 for 3 people.
I was alone. And they were not that busy at that time.
Go somewhere else where the waiters are happier.
FYI: I had to have iv fluid tranfusion LR next day!!!

Nothing special, the food was ok but really nothing special. I really like crab cakes and heard it was very good here, maybe I came with too high of an expectation, they were ok but I’ve had better. If your gonna try the place out, I’d recommend doing it during restaurant week makes the price more reasonable for the quality of food you’re getting.

Went for a dinner pre-​Broadway evening show. The food was really delish! I had the sole stuffed with crab meat… was so cooked to perfection. Danny our server was beyond courteous, pleasant and prompt.

This restaurant exceed my expectations. I had an awesome dinning experience. Absolutely everything was delicious. The food came on time and I enjoyed each entry. The crispy calamari were one of the best fried calamari dish that I have tasted ever. City’s «Down East «Maine Lobster Roll was incredible tasty and the key lime pie had the right bitterness. Great location, friendly atmosphere, and our server Danny was excellent. Sure I will come back !

Food was excellent but the service was extremely slow. Went during restaurant week and it wasn’t busy. Soup came without a spoon, had to repeatedly ask for water, just overall slow service. Food was great though.

Celebrated my birthday here on Friday before a show. The waiter, John, was extremely efficient and asked us once we sat down if we were going to see a show. We ordered from the restaurant week menu and everything was delicious (albeit a bit heavy handed on the salt, which we realized afterwards because we were parched!)
Anyway, I started with the calamari (I pretty much order this at every restaurant that serves it and it was perfectly crisp with very generous portions), had the seafood ciopinni ($ 5 supplement and totally worth it but a bit salty) and ended my meal with the key lime pie (I LOVE sour, so this was perfect for me, but can imagine it not being a hit with non-​sour fans).
Hubby had the lobster chowder to start, crabcakes for entrée and the crème brûlée cheesecake for his dessert. He loved it all! The crabcakes (John boasted that they were the best in the city and he was pretty accurate!) had very little fillers in between and crab was sweet. Hubby’s dessert was phenomenal… would recommend that for sure.
John was nice enough to put a candle in my slice of key lime pie and sing me happy birthday, along with hubby. Probably one of the most low-​key songs sang to me in a restaurant ever! haha. For some reason, apps and entrée came out fairly quickly but dessert took a long time to come out. Luckily we still made it to the show in time, with about 10 minutes to spare! :)
Can’t wait to go back! :)

Cannot really complain for the price of restaurant week, but the food is not very sincere. Go for the supplement.

Me and my fiancé went here one night for a romantic dinner with plans to have a great night and stumbled into a forgotten choice from the past that we didn’t get a chance to enjoy. They had a pretty good prefix menu so we got that. The service from beginning to end was excellent, the appetizers were phenomenal (lobster bisque and spinach/​cheese baked clams) and took some time to come but you can tell they were prepared from the heart. The entrees which both were lobster meals were heavenly and delicious that left us full. For dessert I had the strawberry cheesecake and he had pecan pie. Both were too delicious!!! We were surprised and excited that they had our favorite dessert wine, Moscato D’ Asti.

The manager couldn’t be more rude. I wonder why your restaurant is EMPTY at lunch, not a soul in here.
The one thing they were on point with, the bill. That came to the table way before the food.
Keep it classy City Lobster. I’m excited to see what opens here when they close their doors.

We arrived at 4:40 and were seated, given menus and ignored for 20 minutes, until my friend went to the hostess and asked for a waiter. We waited another 5 minutes, then a waitress came & things didn’t get better.
My Dry Martini came with some sort of SWEET lime syrup! Ugh!
Long story short, food was ok, Service was worse, then improved. Our waitress scored with me by bringing ice cream for my Bestie’s Birthday & I didn’t even ask…
I’d give them another chance.

The high point was those amazing North Atlantic Oysters. I have to say that the service was pretty slow and no water refills :(

I came here a few times already. This place never wow me. But their food has been pretty good so I ended up coming here whenever I decided to meet my friends in midtown last minute.
The manager (or boss?) has been walking around and asked how’s everything so that was good.
Our waitress looks like the saddest thing on earth. Her whole attitude showed me City Lobster was the last place she want to be in. She was very pushy about getting us order more stuff. We have to tell her no drinks 3 times. After we both order our own appetizer and 2 lbs lobster each, she tried to tell us we should order SOME sides. There’s one thing try to get more tips and more money for the place you are working for, but it’s OBVIOUSLY too much food for 2 people.
Back to food, the quality has definitely gone down. Calamari was very bland. Lobster doesn’t taste that fresh. I ordered the angry lobster, the sauce has not been «simmered» to the lobster enough. So the lobster itself is totally tasteless. After I dipped into the sauce, I taste the sauce but those two just doesn’t went well together like that.
I ordered their popular Cream Brulee. Very mediocre.

Came for dinner with family because they wanted seafood, we were in the area, and I had a great experience a few months back.
Asked the host for a table near the door because little brother had an injury… she took us towards the back of the restaurant, so he limped all the way over.
We were four, ordered wine and apps which were fine. Ordered dinner which came out spaced apart and not hot. It was not busy at all, maybe 4 tables and 3 more at the bar. Not impressed. It was already late in the night and it wasn’t worth the hassle of returning. I mentioned to the waiters and host, that it was both mom and brothers b’day and I asked for a specific dessert BEFORE they arrived. Our server offers dessert menu options and brings out a crème brûlée cheesecake rather than the plain cheesecake I asked for. No one liked it, only one dessert was brought. This experience was lousy across the board which saddens me because the food and service was amazing last time. Highlight– I was charged for birthday dessert!

Its restaurant week; It’s my birthday! And its seafood! Why not try here? Myself along with a group of friends made reservations to try this restaurant. The food was exceptional and everyone loved their choices. The bartender was great also, great conversationalist! Our server, of whom I can’t remember her name, was phenomenal. We were a table of 10 with very different taste buds but she managed to take care of us.
One concern I experienced while there was with the manager. Using Unilocal we learned that there was a deal on oysters. The deal simply stated four free oysters with the purchase of any entrée. Some of us decided to cash in on that deal. We placed our orders. We waited about 15 minutes and learned from the manager who came to our table and said, «Guys, it’s only one per table». Of course that is perfectly okay, but it should have stated that on the promotion. We wanted to stay anyway.
As we are waiting, I noticed the manager talking to his staff about our table. It became obvious that this was the case because when I got up to go to the bathroom, and I walked right past them, they stopped talking. I observed him gesturing and looking at our table along with other staff who walked by giving us odd looks. By this time I started to feel really uncomfortable and even contemplated getting up and leaving. There are a million restaurants in NYC, especially during restaurant week offering great deals who will gladly take our dollar. Besides, I take pride in my day to day work fighting inequalities and injustices working for the Speaker’s office of the New York City Council. I got a grip on my rights.
Just as I was asking my friends should we leave, the manager came over and said that everyone at the table would receive the free oyster deal. Truth be told, not everyone wanted it in the first place, but the extras did not go to waste. That was a saving grace moment.
A big kudos to our server. She’s the real reason why we stayed. Overall the food was great, the server was excellent, but it’s the one bad apple that spoiled the bunch.

Place is ok nothing special. I was in the mood for seafood and wanted to try out what they had for restaurant week. I started off with calamari which was really delicious and had a bit spice to it. Then I had the lobster roll which was good but nothing special. For dessert I had choc bourbon pecan pie which wasn’t too satisfying.
The restaurant itself was really nice and the bar area was great. Bartender was very friendly and very attentive

Wait… Lunch Special… but still It was a good lunch.
We sat by the bar where they were offering Lobster Roll with Fries for $ 19.50
Aside from that, the BF ordered Oysters that were $ 1.50 (he got 9 of them).
I was soo greedy that I also got a New England Clam Chowder for $ 8.00.
Overall it was good, but make sure you have at least 1 hour lunch break, food was pretty slow here.
Service was outstanding, the Bartender kept feeding me water and make sure we were taking care of and every 5 minutes he came over to let us know the Food was on its way.
I don’t think i’ll come back for their Pre-​fix Menu, there’s soo many options. I can see this place is more for Corporate /​Business lunch Dinner meeting than a good food.

Ambiance nettt ohne «zu viel» zu sein. Fuer Business Lunch oder ein Date perfekt.

I came here with a group of friends for restaurant week. Half of us had the baked oysters and crabmeat rockefeller appetizer. The others had the clam chowder. The chowder seemed well-​received, but the oysters were a hit.
The rest of the meal was not quite as exciting. I had the scallops with the lobster risotto. The risotto was pretty good, but the scallops were bland. They were cooked well, but had almost no flavor. I just toughed my way through them hoping for a better dessert. Similar reviews from my friends who ordered the lobster, the cioppino, and the sole. Nothing was bad, but nothing was great either.
I ordered the crème brule cheesecake for dessert. Again, it was fine, but not great. The pecan pie was pretty good. The best dessert was the berry compote and sabayon.
The wine selection was pretty good, though they were out of the Tempranillo we ordered. The Syrah they offered in its stead was nice.
Overall, not a bad experience, but not a place I’d need to revisit.
