Citizen M Hotel

There are hotels, and then there are great hotels. The great ones separate themselves from the rest of the pack by paying attention to the details. CitizenM is one of those places. They advertise themselves as a hotel for «mobile citizens of the world» and it’s a cross between an aloft and a W. The lobby in NYC is interesting — lots of couches and a bar to hang out in, and there’s plenty of space to work too. Don’t be fooled by what appears to be rather small hotel rooms — they are decently sized (for one person) but they make up for it in sheer comfort and attention to detail. Everything is controlled by an iPad mini that sits at your side table, and it’s quite fun to use it. You can change the mood lighting in the room, close the blinds or set an alarm on the iPad, and it doubles as a TV controller. What I loved was: the attention to the room experience — everything was useful in a minimalist way. The mood lighting was awesome. The bed was as comfy as it gets — great comforter and pillows. The bed was tucked right next to the window and I could have spent hours in it, staring out at the NYC skyline. The soft fluffy towels were perfect. Great shower too. Everything is brought into the modern age, from the quick check in/​check out to the iPad recognizing that you are a guest, with a «hello David» on it. The staff was also very friendly and attentive, and they really seem to want you to enjoy your stay with a minimum of fuss. I had a drink at the top bar on the 21^st floor and enjoyed chatting with the bartender for an hour. I think the only slight miss is that they don’t have a full kitchen, but they do have a great coffee and snack bar on the 1^st floor and several snacks available at all hours of the day. I tried one of the sandwiches and it was pretty good. But it’s NYC, and there is great food on every corner so you can always get what you need. Location is also good if you want to be in midtown Manhattan. Seriously, I could not find a fault with my recent stay — it is a great hotel for those who value experience and service over luxury. I will definitely return here again.

Just got back from a quick overnight in the city, great stay. The rooms are undoubtedly small but very functional with a cool vibe. Ipad controls of the lights, blinds and TV is a nice feature. The bed was comfortable with nice linens. There was something cool about the bed encompassing the entire window area.
Often times in a small hotel the lobby is lacking. This is not the case here. The lobby/​bar area is well lit and inviting. If we had more time we would have lounged there a bit.
They have check-​in kiosks as you walk in but there was staff to assist us as well. Location cannot be beat for Broadway.

The price was absolutely amazing. I could not believe how inexpensive this Times Square area hotel was.

When we checked in, we were having problems. An employee helped us, she was also having problems. She got it fixed, after trying 2 different computer terminals. From this rocky start, everything was outstanding.
The room was just what we needed for a romantic get away.
Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom and room were very clean.
Liked the free movies.
Room picture, lights, music and tv were controlled by an ipad.
The upstairs and downstairs bars were fun. Great bar tenders, cool drink options, excellent prices.
I have already started telling people about this hotel for them to stay. I will be back!

We really enjoyed staying at this european style modern hotel in New York.
They do early check in for free if a room is available. and they do late check out for 70 dolllars or so.

Great hotel with new concept and unique design

Crazy expensive ($ 465/​night after taxes) for a room that was literally the width of a king size bed, as the headboard and footboard both touched the wall. The bathroom is a freestanding pod in the middle of the room that houses the toilet and shower, and it’s opaque so when you turn on the lights the whole room lights up, bothering the other person. The sink is in what’s left of the tiny room. Yes, they have gadgets that work the lights and TV but what they didn’t have in the morning was hot water! The front desk was aloof and said if it might be back on in a couple hours. No showers for us! When I called later to complain their only offer was that if I ever wanted to stay at one of their international locations I could get a friends and family discount versus doing anything to make me satisfied with my previous stay, like a discount on the room or even a voucher to use in their restaurant or bar.

Run don’t just walk to this quaint and trendy hotel. Everything about it is fantastic from the check-​in process to the cool lobby and bars to the room and last but not least, the fabulous staff. I just can’t say enough about how much I loved this place. The hotel is in a perfect location within walking distance of many cool areas and the subway is just a few steps away. If you want to hang out in the lobby, there are plenty of outlets to charge your phone or laptop. I was able to check in a few hours before 2pm. On the day I checked out, my flight was not until the evening, and they were able to hold my bags for me. Don’t look anywhere else for a hotel in NYC!

We came here for the rooftop bar and it’s fabulous! The bartender was really nice and poured well. It was pricey, but that’s the area. The view is absolutely amazing!!! The only thing is that it’s for hotel guests only. A guest in the elevator let us up with his key, so we got lucky!

If I wanted to stay in a room the size of a cruise ship, I would go on a cruise. Shame on me for not reading between the lines more closely. The amenities and iPad operation were cool for the first 10 minutes and then I had enough of this teeny tiny hotel room. Location and common areas were awesome but when in my room with my other half, we prefer to walk around our bed and not be touching at least part of our holiday… alas not to be in Citizen M.

Buenísimo hotel en el centro de NY.
GRAN ubicación. De verdad la ubicación es ideal pleno times square, pero sobre la 50 no sobre brodway ni la 7ma. Es decir, tenes el quilombo alrededor, pero no en la puerta.
El hotel es súper canchero, muy buena ambientación. Todo es lindo, tiene frases con guiños graciosos en todos lados. Es un buen hotel, pero sin la paquetería y eso lo banco mucho.
En el piso 21 tiene un bar con una terraza súper linda con gran vista.
Tiene gimnasio y una sala de planchado que claramente no la use, pero puede resultar muy útil.
El personal es súper amable. Por el ambiente descontracturado todo es muy self-​Service. Hasta haces tu propio check in y check out. A mí me gusta, pero es cierto que puede resultar demasiado despreocupado.
De cualquier manera, siempre están dispuestos a ayudar y son todos muy sonrientes.
El lobby es grande tiene múltiples espacios para sentarse y hasta una librería. Se puede hasta comer en las mesas de por ahí cosas de afuera.
Hay una barra donde hacen tragos y tienen algunas opciones de comida. Eso es flojo porque tienen dos o tres sándwiches sacados de la heladera. Un hotel de 4 estrellas y ese precios debería tener alguna opción de comida un poco mejor. También tienen un plato del día. Está bien, lo resolvieron, pero podría ser mejor.
Desayuno muy bueno.
Las habitaciones: CHIQUITAS. Están bien pensadas y son funcionales, pero son muy chicas de verdad. Excelente cama y servicio de limpieza. Buenos productos de tocador.

THE ROOMS: This place is one of the few locations where you can look at a room online and be guaranteed you’ll know what to expect – every room is identical, there are no suites or adjoining rooms. The rooms have a wall to wall window next to the bed as their focal point, with a rounded shower/​toilet stall complete with color-​changing «moods,» thus earning the bathing cubicle the term «the orb» in my family. Our room along with all of the other parts of the hotel (lobby, rooftop bar, basement restrooms, outdoor patio, and the canteen) were are very clean with great attention to the theme of the décor. Finally, we noticed how quickly you could vacate the rooms because there’s no hidden compartments or excessive furniture, everything was within view.
CHECK IN: The check in at the citizenM was the easiest possible experience. It’s reminiscent of the check in process at the airport kiosks (but, you know, functional). You type in your last name on the screen and regardless of what time you arrive, they will show you the available room options. You tap whichever one you want (we arrived 4 hours before check in expecting to just drop our bags off), and then make yourself room keys by tapping them to contact sensor and you’re on your way.
THE SHARED SPACES: Given the amenities in the rooms, I was surprised that the common spaces weren’t more crowded. There’s plenty of room to work, chat, or get a drink.
SERVICE: The hotel is largely self-​service. However our encounters with the staff were all friendly. The rooftop bar’s bartenders were fun to chat with. After posting up there to kill an hour over our «welcome drink,» we were offered two tickets to Stomp by the hotel management – then after we declined because we were part of a party of four the management called the bar to ask us if we wanted four tickets. We declined to throw a wrench in my dad’s meticulous evening plans, but what a nice offer! Second, I frequently convince myself that I have forgotten to unplug my curling iron – and it’s ALWAYS unplugged (but what if it isn’t and I burn the apartment/​hotel down). I called the desk and asked if they would go check our room to see if it was unplugged because I was all the way down in the Flatiron. I was embarrassed until I came home and found a hilarious note saying that it was unplugged. Finally, leaving the bags with the front desk made our last day so much easier.
THE BREAKFAST: The breakfast at the citizenM is a great value and is the perfect combination of self-​service specifics and higher-​end offerings. The items individually are expensive (as expected, $ 4 for a McDonald’s style hashbrown), but when you include breakfast with the room, you can load up a plate and go back for seconds (this is pleasing to my 6’4-athletic-garbage-disposal-of-a-diner boyfriend).
You start by ordering any fancy coffee drink or tea from the barista (caramel latte, flat white, macchiato, earl grey latte, etc.) The croissants were fantastic: flakey on the outside, gooey and doughy on the inside. They have pancakes, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, yogurts, juices, little packets of Nutella, mini jam jars and syrup – anything you could want. All of which was as good as you’d expect at any given fast-​casual restaurant.
To clarify, I never opt to have breakfast at the hotel when I’m traveling. There’s so much to see (eat) in a new place, and with the exception of my accidental three-​week residency at the Hay Adams in D.C. I’ve never been very impressed with breakfast. Enter my dad, while he’s got the same foodie mindset, he’s also very into having breakfast as part of the room. He was staying at another hotel down the street (The London NYC) where I met them for an expensive and absolutely dreadful breakfast. I’m glad my father impulsively included breakfast with our room – the citizenM’s breakfast game is on point.

Coolest hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Me and my girlfriend celebrated our Anniversary here and received two free drinks and a personal, handwritten card. The staff is incredible, especially Cindy the bartender! Check out the rooftop bar at night! Also the rooms are not as small as I’ve seen people express. We had plenty of space for all our things.

I needed a place near Port Authority to duck in and get some work done (and conduct a phone call) and someone suggested Citizen M online. I am so happy to have found this gem. I took the E to 50^th Street and the hotel is conveniently located right outside of the subway stop. The lobby has plenty of places for one to sit and outlets are conveniently located throughout. There is a bar and a bookstore. Wifi here is FREE and speeds are incredible. This was a major plus. I was able to take up residency in a small nook on a stool facing the street. Although there were people frequenting the bar and book area, I found it quiet enough to do work and have my important phone call. No one bothered me and I was able to duck out 2 hours later and quickly head to Port Authority to catch my bus home.
I must have been sitting under an air vent and was cold but that was okay for finding a great workspace in the middle of Times Square. Only other negative is that voices and noises can echo throughout the open space at some points but noise was generally low.
I will definitely be back when in similar situations and would consider staying as well.

I really enjoyed this place! its hip and modern and super clean. The staff is very helpful as well. 2 bars — ground floor and ROOF TOP! Roof is for hotel guests only which is nice. The rooms are small but they are perfect for 1 – 2 people. The mood lighting was my favorite thing — even though I stayed alone I made my room be Romance red at night — it was very calming :)

Located in the heart of mid-​town, the modern and hip citizenM hotel offers competitive rates and clean rooms. This hotel is not for everyone, but for the right traveler – it can be great. Rooms are TINY, but clean and efficient. Lobby has a lively «den» feel and check-​in via kiosk was fast and easy. This is not really a full-​service hotel… you are not at the RItz or Four Seasons, but for 2 – 3 nights in Mid-​town for 1 or 2 people, it works great. In a King room, the width of the room is about the same as the bed, so you can only get out on one side. Bathroom was clean and had a good shower. Lots of electronic controls in the room to change lighting and blinds. Control is a small «iPad» like device. Great blackout shades, reasonably quiet room (still in NY). Easy and fast overall. You will be surprised by how small and efficient the rooms are… so this is for someone who plans to explore New York – not spend time in their hotel room. For 1 – 2 travelers who can deal with a small room – this is a great choice.

Love the décor of this boutique hotel, especially the outside display of all the cool statues and collectibles. I basically want everything here! Whoever did the styling and design, beautiful job!

My 8 day trip to NYC began as a fish out of water story. I am a California girl through and through, LA to be exact. The CitizenM was my peace and joy through it all.
Artfully decorated with warm colors and ample seating, the lobby is a sight for sore eyes. It is like a living room on streoids. Free use of Apple computers on the mezzanine!
Our room was clean open and bright. The mood lighting and oversized bed made the room special. I enjoyed using the tablet to control the entire room. The TV did lose signal a lot but it came right back.
The Breakfast was a bit overpriced to me. I went down to pret a Manger for breakfast once I did some research. I did appreciate that the delicious croissants were available 24hrs a day. Friendly staff, attentive housekeepers and easy check in and out.
I walked around the corner to the Ambassador to see Broadway play Chicago. Wicked was across the street.
By the end of my stay I was walking the streets like a native, loving New York, and a proud citizen of citizenM

The location could not be better (a block away from Times Square) and the staff was super friendly. I also like the lobby: the decoration is wonderful (100% eclectic). However, at the end, I think is just an average 3-​star hotel with a kind of modern? cybernetic twist. The room (standard double) was pretty narrow, and the WC, a joke: super small.
I am not a fan of new technologies, so the fact that you control the room (i.e. the lights, the music, the tv, the blind) with a tablet does not impress me much… I rather don’t like it. We actually had a couple of issues with the tablet. The AC/​heater was horrible. Terribly slow. On the other hand, the bed is big and very comfortable. Another thing I didn’t like: do not offer me a huge amount of music to hear in the TV if I don’t recognize any of the artists in the list (maybe just The XX, which was included in the Pop music list… cannot imagine who was in the Indie list: S).
Do not expect a lot of extras (like in a average 3-​star hotel): just shampoo, conditioner, hair drier, body lotion and not much… (what about razors? toothpaste? extra towels? shoe shiner?).
I didn’t try the breakfast, so I can give my opinion.
By the way, we had a fire alarm issue in the middle of the night… I recognize this could happen even in the best 5-​star hotel in NYC, but definitely it doesn’t benefit my overall experience.
Moral: try it if you are crazy about new technologies, or if you are crazy about having fancy lights in the shower… otherwise, I am not convince :(

5 étoiles sans hésiter. Pourquoi? La liste est longue. Excellente situation, pour un prix plus que raisonnable (nous sommes à NYC). Un service convivial, efficace et attentionné. Un lobby génial avec un style dont ferait bien de s’inspirer les grands groupes d’hôtels. Une propreté parfaite à tout moment de la journée. Des chambres bien pensées: le lit-​fenêtre immense et d’un confort incroyable, des rangements hyper pratiques. Un vrai bon miroir bien éclairé pour se maquiller. Une mini tablette pour tout contrôler: la lumière, l’air-co (en janvier, à NY, pas nécessaire), la télé, etc. Un petit déjeuner buffet bon et copieux. On n’y trouve pas exactement les mêmes choses qu’en Europe (pas de tranches de fromage ou de jambons, pas de toasts, pas d’oeufs à la coque) mais on n’est pas en Europe non plus. Les croissants et les pains au chocolat consoleront ceux qui se sentent loin de chez eux. Qu’ajouter? Le lobby est équipé de tables auxquelles on peut travailler, la wifi fonctionne impeccablement.
Bön, CitizenM est un concept. Il est fait pour les gens qui voyagent seuls ou en couple. Quand vous avez des réunions toute la journée (Londres, Paris, Amsterdam), il est plus sympa de loger dans un CitizenM que dans un hôtel anonyme ou standard (en termes de déco). Par contre, CitizenM n’est pas vraiment adapté à des vacances en famille (chambres trop petites).

It is THE perfect place to stay in Manhattan for few days if you travel solo!
I explain why:
— the lobby is alive and makes you feel that you are coming back to your very own bar/​library/​living room
— the team is young without being hipster and ready to help and to greet you anytime of the day.
— the room space is convenient for 1 and 2 suitcases with the best bed ever, 2 places to hang your clothes on and the underbed storage and the mood pad that helps you to set up the lights, tv, curtains and surf on the net.
— THE LOCATION! Basically you could go anywhere in Manhattan with any of the subway stations found within 5 minutes walk or less! 1h from JFK through airtrain+ E line. So convenient!
I knocked 1 star for the bathroom because it is just a sink, a shower/​toilet with a curtain. No need to say that if you were to come here with someone else than you, then it is NOT going to be so discreet to do your private business if you know what i mean.
The mood pad was moody the first day so i got to use only after 24h (they reset it)
Also the gym is very small for such a big hotel and could have been more accommodating.
Overall, i might just find out my favourite new hotel in New york.

This place is a gem right in the middle of Times Square. It is so unique in a lot of aspects.
Upon entering, there are numerous lounge couches and computer tables to just hang out. Also in the lobby is a drink and snack bar. By the lounge couches, is a fireplace and two flat screen tvs to watch while you relax. They also have a rooftop bar which we didn’t have a chance to look at, but will check it out the next time we stay.
There technically is no front des. There are kiosks where you can check right in and create your own room keys. The experience is sort of like checking in to a flight on kiosk. You then hold up the card to a scanner when entering the elevator and choose your floor. When you approve your room, you just hold the key card to the scanner and it unlocks the door. No more stripe swiping.
The room is small, but that is expected in any hotel in Manhattan. The bathroom is a little tight with s toilet and a stand up rain shower sharing the space. The thing I didn’t like about the room was that the vanity and sink was located outside of the bathroom and in the main room.
There was plenty of closet space and cabinet storage under the king size bed. Room was spotless and sheets were clean. The coolest thing about the room was that the lights, blinds, clock, and tv were all controlled by a Samsung tablet that is docked on the nightstand as you arrive. There were several presets for mood lightings to make the stay even more enjoyable.
