Church Street School for Music and Art specializes in process-​oriented approaches to arts education. Our objective is to facilitate creativity and give voice to the natural musical and artistic sense through direct, physical experience. We are the only not-​for-​profit music and art school in Lower Manhattan, extending an understanding and love of the arts to a community that is economically, socially and culturally diverse.

We provide music and art classes for all ages, beginning at 16 months, and continuing through teens to adults. We offer daycare programs, instrumental music lessons, drop-​in music and art programs and after-​school classes in a wide range of art and music disciplines. We also offer rental space in our sound proof practice rooms and performance space.

History

Established in 1990.

With humble beginnings in a second floor loft, and three expansions in just over ten years, Church Street School is building a pre-​eminent home for the arts, with sufficient programming and performance space to truly serve the communities of Lower Manhattan and beyond. We are growing our most popular programs, and evolving into areas of new technologies and multimedia integrations. This is an exciting time of growth, both physically and programmatically.
