I saw Christina for a number of years for a number of reasons and found her to be personable, attentive and high caliber in most areas of practice. Sometimes she cancels at the last minute but I never really minded that.
HOWEVER
I recently learned from a loose-​lipped friend that many of the details I shared with her during our counselling sessions she also shared with another patient. This is not only extrememly unprofessional but is against HIPA laws and she could be sued if I chose to go down that path.
Warning: If you decide to go to her from a recommendation from a friend who also sees her, that this breach of confidentiality may repeat itself. Her receptionist appears very professional but I’m also not sure the extent to which she is involved in gossiping about her patients. It was upsetting and disconcerting to learn that a medical professional whom I trusted was in fact a liar and manipulator. I will never be back.

Christina is truly amazing. I have been seeing Christina for 10 years and would never consider going to anyone else. She has brought back my happiness that I had been missing, and I am a better person because of her.
Her office is gorgeous and her staff is extremely warm and welcoming.
I highly recommend seeing Christina. I have been to many many doctors before I found Christina and I never had a connection with any of them. I didn’t feel like they all had my best interest at heart and that made my situation even worse. From my first appt with Christina I knew I had found the perfect one, and haven’t gone anywhere else since. She understood what I was going through and I can’t express how greatful I am to her.
The review below states «Run, don’t walk» and I could not agree more! Don’t waste another min of your life not being completely happy. You only live once, and happiness is the most important thing you could have.

She is incredibly straightforward, and not only helps you find the right treatment, but also is incredibly understanding, empathetic, and perhaps most importantly, was able to help me find a practical and simple solution.

Her new office is lovely, and Will is awesome — makes himself available right away and has the same common sense and supportive attitude as Christina.

She is still her wonderful empathetic, kind and caring self. And now she is surrounded by professionals of her own caliber – also able to see patients. Christina suddenly left the practice she was working under suddenly and without warning, and is now operating under a practice that does not take insurance, also sells Botox and B12 shots, and advertises her as «New York’s Secret Weapon.» That she may be, and she was very helpful to me, but this behavior is bizarre and harmful to long-​term clients who cannot afford out-​of-​pocket rates ($ 350 for medication managment, $ 350 for ‘life style counseling’) to follow her. Thank you for what you did, Christina, but this I can’t do.

Christine Johnstone is indeed a delight. She’s somehow able to be courteous and professional while remaining warm compassionate. She definitely saves lives.
Unfortunately she is no longer a this office according to the message I received last week. If anyone knows where she can be reached, please post. I would be willing to take a vacation day and drive 3 hours out of my way if I had to.

The horrible receptionist is gone!!! Only fair to update my review. As I said in my last review, Christina is always warm, positive, friendly, and professional. She’s extremely knowledgeable and personable in a way you don’t often find with health care professionals. I said all of this in my past review, but had to weigh it with the anxiety provoked by having to go through Nicole to make appointments.
The current receptionists are extremely competent and polite. It’s a very busy office and they work like a well-​oiled machine. My only negative comment is that the extremely high volume of clients sometimes creates a longer wait to see your doctor, which can be a little inconvenient if you’re on your way to work, for example. Not a huge deal, but maybe something to fine-​tune. Otherwise, it’s a great practice and I’m very grateful to have found a practitioner like Christina.

NICOLE IS GONE!
I agree with all of the other reviewers about how problematic Nicole’s presence in the office has been over the years. But they have all-​new staff who are very organized and efficient and nice. Christina remains the best practitioner in this field I have ever seen – she really keeps up on the research, and takes the time to fine-​tune treatment in this difficult and tricky business of psychopharmacology. I trust her without reserve.

Christina is great! I have also been seeing her for several years, and in my opinion a minor hassle with scheduling from time to time does not detract from her high level of personal care and professionalism.

I love Christina! And though Nicole isn’t there anymore, I never had a huge problem with her. I actually found her quite funny. Yea she was stressed out, but who wouldn’t be? I’d like to see anyone else try to do that job. Being on the phone all day with evasive insurance companies would piss anyone off. Go on, try doing that and remaining peppy all day; I dare you.

I have read the reviews about Nicole, and I never had a problem with her, but I could see where other people might. I was there last week and Nicole has been replaced with a new receptionist. So give Christina another try.
Like I’ve seen on other doctors/​medical reviews: this isn’t a page to write about Nicole or review her. Yes, she was a part of the practice but this is Christina’s review page and I cannot say enough good things about her.
I have yet to read a negative review of Christina herself other than her practice is busy.
Yes, the office is busy, but that is just a testament to how great Christina is. Even though they are so busy, I have never in 5 years had a problem getting worked in, or an appt at the last minute. Any doctor that is awesome frankly is going to be busy. Know that going in.
My main point: Christina really cares about her patients, takes the time to actually listen and help you out. I would never see anyone else other than her. As long as I’m a NY’er and she’s practicing in the city, Christina will have my business.

I can tell that Nicole definitely rubs people the wrong way, but I have no problems with her. She is always nice to me and very helpful. Nicole is overwhelmed (as many of the receptionists have been that worked in this office in the past) and she has no time for nonsense (to put it nicely). I know its a choice to act the way she does at times v. s being polite and respectful at all times no matter the circumstances– but I feel she is stressed out and stretched thin and she doesn’t know any better but to demonstrate her frustrations when interacting with others. I am not saying its right but I can see why she does it–
The way my relationship with nicole improved is by asking her about her day and striking up some conversation with her — she totally changes her tune when someone shows they care about her day and asks her about her. It was like a different person all together. So next time you are finding yourself frustrated with Nicole– just shoot her a dose of kindness or a funny little joke– something to take her mind off the non stop insanity at the office, and you too will see how her demeanor changes for the better going forward.
As for Christina– I love her! She is so compassionate and truly cares about your well being — this practice doesn’t make you feel like you are being pushed in and out quickly as if you are in a factory or something– If you need to discuss something you never feel like its imposing on her or taking up too much time — she confirms this by asking questions when you have a concern (not like my general practitioner who basically shuts me down and answers my problems by telling me its probably nothing major etc… and not really showing concern — time for a new general practitioner!)
I would definitely recommend Christina Johnstone!!!

I’ve been going off and on to Christina for a few years and absolutely adore her. She is truly amazing and compassionate.
BUT I agree with these other reviewers about the receptionist, Nicole. SHE IS HORRIBLE. The receptionist before her was so great and actually cared about the patients. I stopped going for over a year because I didn’t want to deal with Nicole and was praying that she no longer worked there. But no such luck. I am afraid to call the office so I don’t have to talk to her because she makes it impossible for me to get an appt. since I made her mad one time. She has kept me on hold for more than 10 minutes (I wanted to see how long she actually would make me wait) and NEVER gives my messages to Christina.
Nicole acts unprofessionally while on the phone and has been on a personal call every time I come to the office. She then proceeds to talk about inappropriate events and uses bad language in front of the patients in the waiting room. She has even talked about other patients!!! I’m pretty sure this is a patient confidentiality issue!!!
I’m writing all this after I called to make an appt. and of course was put on hold for 7 minutes after which I gave up.
I’m going to make photocopies of all these reviews and mail them to Christina and Dr. Crane. It’s ridiculous that someone like Nicole is making patients with mental health issues experience such hell.

Christina is amazing — compassionate, thoughtful, progressive… I’ve been a patient for years and can’t say enough about how wonderful she is.
However, the receptionist, Nicole, is not wonderful. She has consistently been mean, rude, unprofessional towards me and others. Just today she HUNG UP on my pharmacist. And then, later, after refusing to let me speak with Christina or Dr. Crane, she hung up on me.
In my experience (5+ years), the reception staff has always been overwhelmed. However, Nicole is by far the worst they’ve had. Since she began, it’s become nearly impossible to see Christina, get a prescription refilled, or even get a simple question answered.
I wish it was just me who felt this way — but three friends who have all seen Christina regularly have stopped seeing her since Nicole started. Her attitude, lack of compassion and gross unprofessionalism seems to undo all the good that Christina does.
Avoid this practice at all costs.
