To date I’ve only had the best experiences with Choice NY Management. From the moment Chris showed my mother and I my apartment he was friendly, honest and personable. I felt extremely comfortable knowing I would be renting from his company. Since then everyone I’ve dealt with at Choice NY has been responsive and professional including my super. He cares for whatever issue I call him about in a timely and efficient manner. Of all of the Manhattan apartments I have rented this has by far been my best experience.

I’ve lived in a Choice property for over a year and have always been more than satisfied with their personal touch and responsiveness to my requests. The building is extremely clean and secure. The super is fantastic. Every time I’ve asked for help with things that aren’t even Choice’s responsibility, they’ve helped. Moreover I saw over 20 apartments before finding this one… It was by far the nicest for the price point.

Beware of this place, there are rats and they never deal with them. We contacted them for months about rat issues and rat poop, and they wouldn’t even plug in the holes around pipes where they were entering, let along actually send an exterminator out. Every other interaction with them was pretty poor, but the rat issue was just insane.

Upon move in my apartment was in completely dilapidated conditions. Pubic hair and dirt lined every inch of the floors, cabinets, and refrigerator. Someone began cleaning my oven, but never finished the job leaving a the entire appliance lined with chemicals that will turn deadly when heated. My closet doors are coming off their hinges, my shower does not work properly, the finishing on my bathtub is pealing, a ceiling light in one of the bedrooms cant be replaced because when you turn the bulb wires come out, I’m missing window screens, and my front doorknob/​lock is loose. I have been on the phone with Choice NY daily since my move in on July 13^th– on the phone they tell you the issue will be scheduled and resolved ‘this week’, yesterday I spoke with the super and he had NEVER even heard of the issues with my apartment yet. I pay $ 2650.00 a month to live here and frankly I am utterly appalled in every way.

In true form, yet another issue in the apartment that we have to deal with just less than a month since my last review. BED BUGS! And for the SECOND TIME! They literally bounce around from every single unit in the building. And sure, Choice sent another shitty exterminator to do a poor job that obviously wasn’t resolved the first time around. Again unwilling to help pay for expenses and have the nerve to request a full months rent for the time living in the apartment with this ongoing issue. Now handling things legally, but save yourself the energy and find an apartment not managed choice. They should be embarrassed but sadly their unsatisfied tenants don’t even phase them. The worst…

Maybe I just got lucky but the two times I reached out to choice management they were responsive. They took care of my issue within a reasonable amount of time. So far I have no complaints with them.

I moved to 879 Dekalb not very long ago so I haven’t interacted with the management company that often but had a positive experience this past week during that storm on Wednesday night. We had a leak from the ceiling in the living room and called the emergency line pretty late at night and ended up getting in touch with Erik J. who was really helpful. They took care of the problem and got someone in early to fix it.

Two words: SLUM LORDS.
The short story: My rent is 1900. To live in a slum house with new paint and ikea cabinets, and rude unresponsive management. DO NOT USE THEM.
The long story:
I moved in Februrary 1^st, the building was unfinished like a dungeon (look at the pictures another reviewer posted, we live in the same building). I had no heat or hot water for my first week and it was 50 degrees in my apt. When I asked John Ozturk about this, he told me it was MY responsibility to call National Grid and have it turned on (which is not true, as was confirmed by someone on 311 AND national grid). Apparently, before the building was bought out and «renovated» (I’ll discuss that later) the heat and hot water was included in rent, now it’s not. Choice was supposed to notify national grid that tenants were to be billed. I had to go through a long and complicated process with national grid just to get heat and hot water in FEBRUARY, DURING ONE OF THE WORST WINTER NYC HAS SEEN IN YEARS.
Also, we had no lock on the front door of the outer building so anyone could walk in off the street. It took weeks and weeks of emailing John Ozturk about this to have them put a locked door in, and when they did, they locked the outter AND inner door so the mailman couldnt get in! We had no working buzzer for over a month, no mailbox key.
Wait, it gets better.
My roommate found a bed bug, and when I notified John Ozturk, you know what he said? «The likelihood of bed bugs in a brand new renovated building is very unlikely.» They send over the saddest, sorriest excuse of a pest control company to inspect our apt. The dude literally looked at the bed and sheets and said «I can’t treat without a specimen.» and put a STICKY TRAP under the bed. I reported to John Ozturk that we needed TREATMENT IMMEDIATELY. and they finally sent someone over. Around this time we found out the neighbors across the hall had them too, and apparently the 1^st floor tenant had an INFESTATION. Choice didn’t tell anyone in the building about this nor did they think it was necessary to pre-​treat apts. they just kept moving people in and I had to verbally tell every new neighbor that bed bugs were in the building. The apts below me are still infested after multiple treatment, and Choice is refusing to comp their bills for the ordeal.
Four months later, the newest issue is that we have no heat or cooking gas. It was shut off sunday. Did choice tell their tenants the gas and hot water would be cut off? NOPE! Several neighbors had texted me asking if we have gas or not. When I emailed Erik (apparently he’s the guy to talk to now because John got sick of [hardly] doing his job) I was told that there was a gas leak and the repair was completed in under 24 hours, and national grid would becoming tomorrow to inspect and turn gas back on. BULLSHIT. There was no gas leak, a neighbor thought she smelled gas and called, and when they came they found no leak but ILLEGAL PIPES! It has been 4 days and we have had no gas or hot water… and choice does not give two shits.
I’m sick of being told what the «probability» of my complaints being true… just take care of your god damn buildings.

What a surprise —- only NEGATIVE reviews about this terrible mgmt company. Where to begin??? We have had several break-​ins/​robberies in our building (my apt was broken into as well and my ipad was stolen). We also had a homeless guy sleeping in the hallway, recently a bloody needle was found on the steps inside our building. We (other renters in my building and myself) had to fight tooth and nail w/​mgmt to (A) change the front door lock, (B) fix the new lock SEVERAL times when it was not properly closing, and © got get them to install a 2^nd lock on the 2^nd front door.
To add to this BULL***, since WINTER I’ve had my heat turned OFF b/​c I was getting heat (the lines are all intermingled — it seems) from some other apt. It is now May and guess what? They STILL HAVE NOT fixed this issue. I’ve repeatedly emailed mgmt asking for updates and to find out what’s going on and I always get the same response — that they’re looking into it, they’re waiting to hear back from contractors, etc —- just stupid excuses. I’ve been running the Air Conditioner in my apt for MONTHS now and have incurred huge electrical bills. Still no results. My upstairs neighbors are having the same problem. I plan to now investigate on where I can formally put in complaints w/​the City of NY, Better Business Bureau, etc This people even had the nerve to raise my rent! I’m beyond angry…
You have been warned — stay away from renting from this useless company. They are the poorest excuse for what a Mgmt company should be like.

To say my experience with Choice has been sub par would be kind. Moving into a bright newly renovated apartment should be a joy… instead it’s been a nightmare. Bed bugs were present in our apartment even though we were presented with legally binding documents that swore otherwise. What’s more… they expect us to front the money for the laundry services for all of our clothes linens, and outerwear. My roommate and I have enough of these items that to launder everything would likely cost us 1 month’s rent! How can a management company agree to pay for the exterminator upfront, but not the laundry? ALL of these expenses should be paid upfront for our inconvenience. Why should we be punished for their mistake? As well… we moved in 4÷1÷14. Our heat is still not properly working… we don’t have lights in our kitchen… the foyer still looks like a dungeon under construction with light fixtures hanging by a thread AND WE HAVE BED BUGS! This is All incredibly unacceptable and me and my roommate are taking up our grievances with the proper authorities.

I was called today by Choice New York Management and asked about my negative Unilocal review. The person on the line asked me about my Review and if it would be possible for me to take it down. I told him my experiences so far have been extremely bad and I would not be taking down my review.
The person then brought up the amount of rent I pay and claimed that a «Middle Income Rental» does not constitute the same level of customer service as a more expensive unit. Personally I found this disgusting. Good service should be to all tenants and not only the rich.
The person got very angry that I brought this up and raised his voice to me over the phone. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. This call only reassures the fact that Choice New York Management is a terrible company to rent from and as I said in my previous review once my lease is up I will be moving out and never renting from Choice New York Management again.

They are HORRIBLE!!! they scam you with a credit check fee, lie your credit to get you to may more. Advertise apts at one price but change the price when you meet them. Extremley unprofessional and they treat their customers like crap. Its all about a sale for them. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY WHEN SEARCHING FOR AN APT OR HOME… the rep that worked with me his name is MARK FRASER… he literally went back and forth with me over 20 texts rudely when i asked for a copy of a credit score I paid cash for and never gave me the reciept! smh
