Rachel J.

Business Owner

Rachel Jarrett is a former retail executive and one of the leading experts on the children’s business. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for implementing strategic merchandising plans and creating innovative digital programs for children. Rachel recently left the corporate world to pursue her dream of owning her own

business and is in the process of opening up a franchise location on the Upper East Side of Manhattan for a children’s retail experience concept called Chocolate Works. She also serves as an advisor to several small startups. Before her latest endeavor, she was the Senior Vice President of Gilt Baby & Kids. She previously served as a Vice President and General Manager at Barnes & Noble.com. Prior to BN.com, she served as Executive Advisor of Merchandising at FAO Schwarz and spent five years as Buyer and Director of Merchandising for Babies «R» Us /Toys «R» Us infant & toddler furniture. She has an MBA from Kellogg and a BA/MA from Johns Hopkins.

I am a huge fan of chocolate, so I was very lucky to stumble upon Chocolate works! The store is spacious, airy, but also colorful –the perfect place for a birthday party or other chocolate-themed gathering. The treats are varied, delicious, and the staff is super accommodating and nice. However, the coolest feature of the store is that it is actually a mini chocolate factory! They have various awesome chocolate making devices, including 5-foot-tall chocolate fountains! If you are a chocolate lover, don’t miss Chocolate works!

I came to Chocolate Works in want of chocolate covered strawberries. The staff were kind and helpful. They offered milk, dark, and white chocolate with a minimum order of 6 strawberries at $ 25, with tax it was about $ 27.25. I ordered 2 of each dip. They also offered drizzle of my choice. It took one hour to prepare my strawberries on a weekday non holiday and they called when it was complete.
The strawberries were juicy and indeed delicious! I highly recommend as a special gift or for yourself!

Beautiful and Creative Candy Store. Lots of space. The store front is deceiving. In the back there is a seating area to sit and have your ice cream or fresh hot coffee. They sell coffee in the back. It’s help yourself. Behind that area is a party (and training) room. Come for classes or have your child’s birthday party at Chocolate Works. Wall displays and counters offer ideas for corporate merchandise. Gift baskets are on display. Samples of chocolates for various occasions such as baby gifts, weddings, and holidays.
The place has several employees hard at work. It was very busy. They were preparing for a party. The jar candy is help yourself to a mix and match of sweets. A full wall of jars to scoop what ever your heart desires. Counters full of chocolates on display.
Right now all of the holiday chocolates and items are on mark down. It’s going fast!
Very clean and new. A pleasure for the sugar lover and child in you!
Highly Recommend! Especially if your have children or grandchildren!

Worst truffles I ever had. Chocolate tasted slightly fake. Not rich at all. The flavors were all lacking. Key lime wasn’t even remotely sour. The cream was definitely the wrong texture. Instead of being viscous and smooth, it just fell out as a custardy blob. We got key lime, mimosa, rum, and red velvet truffles. Also felt kinda sick after eating them. Sorry guys.

We had the most amazing birthday party at Chocolate Works last week, the kids had the best time ever! My kids and I stop by whenever we can for their delicious chocolate, candy, and ice cream, or to pick up a gift, or do a chocolate making project, or just to watch the chocolate being made! Just a very happy, friendly and welcoming spot!

Everything is delicious but very expensive. They do put things on sale after holidays but never more than 50% off even after it has been sitting in the store for weeks! I’ve seen them take things out of holiday themes packaging and put it in regular packages… so some of the chocolates must be really old :/

I had my daughter’s 7^th birthday party there this past weekend and I can’t say enough good things. Everyone, kids and adults, had an awesome time and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly, taking care of even the tiniest details. This was the first party I threw for her where I truly was able to relax and enjoy myself! Before the party, my many questions were answered promptly and in a very friendly manner. I am still getting texts and emails saying it was an amazing party. The chocolate was delicious! Highly recommended!

Stopped in here because I wanted some free samples post dinner, and ended up browsing a bit. They have some really great gifts here! They had a bunch of doctor theme gift boxes and ended up buying my boyfriend one. It had about 8 big pieces of chocolate that were molded into doctor tools. It was really unique and he loved it! They had similar gifts for lawyers, graduates, teachers, etc.

I took a Valentine’s Day chocolate mold class. It was so much fun to do something different. I surprised my husband who is a sweets fanatic with this gift, and he’s usually a crotchety old man these days and would never offer to do a class like this, so I bought it (basically gave him no choice). We had allot of fun and he was all smiles. Literally a kid in a candy store. Upon arrival we were given pieces of homemade coco dusted truffles. They are a must. My grandma used to make some like these when I was little for the holidays. We then ran Oreos thru the conveyor belt and got a tick coating on them. Once they cooled we decorated them. We chose to make one large heart mold to decorate together. Why we decided to make a golf course design I don’t know, because it definitely looked terrible. It made it better though that we had a thick layer of colored white chocolate designs (intended to be the fairway with a lake and bridge).
The chocolate was tasty and the facilities were so nice. I think I want my birthday party here! Thanks Rachel for being so kind and accommodating. I will be happy to spread the word and I’m always available for a tasting ;)

My daughter had a blast at the drop off workshop today! What a great way to spend her day off from school.
She came home fed and excited to show off her chocolate tiara and wand. It was a great way to share a play date! And she’s not usually one to let me go, but was so distracted by the fun activities and of course, chocolate, that it made the drop off super easy.

Just stopped by Chocolate Works Upper East Side to do some Holiday shopping. I ended up purchasing 2 dozen dark chocolate covered pretzels, 6 white chocolate «golf balls», ¼ lb. of chocolate covered cherries, and an assortment of truffles. The service was exceptional and the prices are more than reasonable. I’d recommend anyone that’s in the neighborhood stop by to check this place out! 5 stars!

What a wonderful addition to the Upper East Side. We recently celebrated my daughter’s 9^th birthday here. Our party was full of amazing and creative candy themed activities. The party room was clean and organized. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. There was nothing for me to do except enjoy the party. They took care of everything! This place is excellent! I bought some chocolate from here for the night my girlfriend and I got engaged and they were a big hit! These chocolates included chocolate covered Oreos, chocolate covered marshmallows and a bunch of truffles. They also did a personal engraving in chocolate of the two of us!
Overall, great chocolate and great service (Rachel was extremely helpful as well). I will certainly be returning.

Had my daughter’s 4^th birthday party here and it was great. Tons of fun, different then a gym, the kids loved it and wonderfully organized. The staff were attentive and kept the kids entertained with chocolate making, games, etc. The owner Rachel was very nice and accommodating. Would highly recommend for a kids birthday party.

They offer you samples immediately upon entering the store: chocolate for adults, while kids are handed a skewered marshmallow to swipe through the gigantic chocolate fountain.
Many gift items to choose from, plus bulk candy against one wall. There’s a party room in the back, and a small ice cream station near the register.
Pros: The staffers seem very friendly, especially the lady tending that chocolate fountain who never seems to lose her patience in the face of sugar-crazed kids. It’s kosher. It’s convenient when you need a semi-meaningful, last-minute gift.
Cons: Things are expensive for what they are. I understand that kosher certification adds to the cost, but I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would buy bulk candy at these prices.
My real problem, though, is the chocolate, which does not seem especially high-quality.
