Chillbox

Absolutely loved this place when I visited Santorini last year, so this was a revelation when I found out that New York had opened up a Chillbox. This is the only yogurt place where I would actually get refills! Something about this frozen dessert just separates itself from all other yogurt shops. Love the packaging, but also love the variety of toppings that they provide here. If you’re feeling like a frozen treat and you’re in the area, please grab a Chillbox!

The eponymous box is a terrible idea, with the foolish but likely very cheap plastic cup jiggling around the branded box that’s unnecessarily unwieldy even for those with large hands. Now that that’s out of the way, I tried all their flavors for $ 3.65 @ $ 0.78/oz. + 25% Unilocal checkin special and still left pretty unsatisfied, both with the taste and the portion. I understand it’s not standard froyo, but the value proposition is much harder to swallow when the product is weak and you don’t have swirl handles, even with so few flavors but still not enough that you need to repeat ‘natural’ across two handles.
Also, Xander is pissed.

Different taste not a fan. Anyone who prefers red mango or 16 handles wont like this place. Yogurt has a very different taste.

Can’t say anything about the yogurt, didn’t get that far.
We were about to get a sample, and I saw a guy behind the counter dip a plastic spoon into the ice cream container, take a bite, and dip it right back in.
Yes, an employee or owner DOUBLE DIPPED into the ice cream they serve to customers.
That’s gross and it says a lot about how they care about cleanliness. The guy looked up at me and saw that I saw him. He didn’t try to keep us from leaving, what was he going to say?

The original fro yo was good and so was the Madagascar vanilla I didn’t get any toppings because I wanted mochi… Go figure… Only I would ask a GREEK fro yo place if they have mochi. The guy at the register did me a look sort of like «um hello do you know where you are?» Anyway everything tasted great so why just 3 stars? Okay I get the idea behind «chill box» your hands don’t touch the container so it doesn’t melt as fast but what KILLS me is the fact that on the box it says please recycle me yet I didn’t see any recycling options at chillbox, there was no separate garbage for recycling. I would def go back but maybe ask them to keep the cardboard box, I don’t need it.

To my personal taste, this was the best froyo place that I have tried. Above forty carrot and red mango.
IF you are a Greek yogurt lover like me, you must try this place. Natural flavor is the best. If you like gelato, I enjoyed honey and berry. Honey is so good and it is kixed with nuts… feel heathy and taste so good.
They insert your yogurt container into their squarw box to protect melting fast. Smart!

I can’t speak for the froyo because I specifically came here from Astoria in search of the elusive Greek toast that is a staple of every fast food kiosk in Greece. Not to be confused with grilled cheese. One slice of ham, one slice of yellow cheese, buttered sliced toast bread pressed to perfection. Seems simple, right? Well God knows Americans or even Greek-​Americans cannot seem to pull this together and make it happen.
When I saw the guy pull out PITA bread I was hoping there was a misunderstanding.
Authentic greek toast is made with regular SQUARE sliced TOAST bread!
When I asked him the guy says this is what they use for the bread. I was in disbelief!
He even caught an attitude and said you can cancel your order if you want.
I ended up getting it anyway, and the concept is there, but with pita bread it’s just NOT GREEK TOAST!
I left after a few bites and in total disgust.
The search continues!

Das ist schon ein verrückter Eisladen. Sehr stylisch. Das Eis stellt man sich komplett allein zusammen. Die Zutaten: einfach nur delikat. Sehr nette und freundliche Mitarbeiterinnen in einem sehr ausgefallenen Ladengeschäft.
Wenn man in der Nähe ist lohnt es sich in jedem Fall mal reinzuschauen und sich ein kleines Eis zusammenzustellen.
Hoch interessantes und spannendes Publikum. Also ein Laden, in dem man etwas zum Essen bekommt und was zum Schauen hat …

My friend was hell-​bent on having dessert from Serendipity after our show at the Gershwin Theater. When we got there, they told us it was a 45-​minute wait! And boy, am I glad they did! If the wait had been shorter, we never would’ve walked across the street to Chillbox! I tried several gelato flavors before deciding on something I had NEVER tried before and was, literally, HEAVEN in my mouth: BAKLAVA GELATO. My friend had honey cookie gelato, which was amazing as well! Their coffee is good, too; we finished off our tasty treats with a pretty great latte! We never made it to Serendipity and never gave it a second thought! This is a MUST-​TRY!
PS: I checked us in on Facebook and, apparently, there are other Chillbox locations in GREECE. Looks like this is the real deal.

Cute. The frozen yogurt is really good. Flavors are pretty standard but they have some more unusual toppings that may be considered «Greek» I guess like olives and various nuts.
It’s basically a glorified Yogurtland but slightly pricier. I was confused because I thought it was frozen Greek yogurt. But no it’s Greek frozen yogurt.
I also found it interesting that in addition to the plastic cup you get a cardboard box holder for that cup. If you eat in, give it back to the employee in the end to reuse. Don’t waste it!

Straight up straight Greek yogurt flavor from the NATURAL flavor selection — really great with banana sauce and/​or the marmalade (like candied orange pieces), add a few dark chocolate disks and BOOM.
Chocolate yogurt flavor is delicate on chocolate flavor and not very sweet. Great with some caramelized almonds and fresh raspberries.
Madagaskar vanilla is a solid choice if you like chocolate toppings.
The set up: There are 6 frozen handle stations and 7 flavors of gelato, and the screen boasts 53 different toppings.
The hazelnut sauce and praline topping are great. Toppings lean more European with things like orange preserves; there are no candy bar pieces. You can, however, get a waffle cone. They also have real waffles for the yogurt, and some small baked goods like bagels, croissants, and muffins — to go with your coffee, Greek coffee, frap, hot chocolate, our other espresso drink.
Milkshakes, fruit juice, and fruit salads round out the menu.
We didn’t get the boxes — ate it there so didn’t need them.
Downers: wish the containers weren’t plastic. It’s a lot of waste that isn’t going to get recycled.

Did I seriously pay $ 9.43 for ice cream?
That is unheard of, even for NYC standards.
Fortunately enough, the baklava ice cream that I got (it was only 2 scoops, by the way. Yup, 2 scoops of ice cream with some walnut toppings cost me nearly $ 10) was really, really, REALLY good. It actually had bits of baklava in it, which was a pleasant surprise.
Will I come back? Uh, not if I have to pay $ 10. Doesn’t even matter that the ice cream was delicious, that’s just ridiculous no matter how I see it.
P. S. Not that I’m a big environmentalist or anything, but is the box really necessary? I feel like it’s such a waste when they’re perfectly fine in the cups they’re served in.

This place is small but comfortable. Honestly everything was so delicious. I will definitely be going back.

Delicious gelato! I was so sad at first that Serendipity had a 1.5 hour wait that I just didn’t have the time for, but I am so glad that Unilocal lead me to Chillbox. The gelato was delicious! And more importantly — the toppings! I do not even remember what the options were, and I could not pronounce most of them, but they were all incredible! So you have to go.

At first glance, it’s easy to pass Chillbox and write it off as «just another frozen yogurt place.» With chains like Pinkberry, Red Mango, and 16 Handles, New York City is far from lacking in places to get your froyo fix. What sets Chillbox apart from the rest, however, is that it doesn’t just serve frozen yogurt, it serves GREEK frozen yogurt. While it’s a healthier version of the dessert, it certainly doesn’t taste like less of an indulgence! Of course, you do have the option of adding sugary toppings, such as cookie and candy pieces, as well as numerous flavors of syrup.
I was in the mood for something fruity when I stopped by, so I tried a sample of the mango. It was so good that I immediately decided to fill my cup with just that flavor alone. The frozen yogurt was light and refreshing and its texture was smooth and creamy (like soft-​serve ice cream).
While everything about the product is wonderful, the shop itself feels very small and crowded. There are a few little tables for customers, but they get filled rather quickly and there isn’t much space for conversation. If Chillbox had more room for seating — especially outdoor — it would be the perfect spot to hang out and enjoy the sunny weather. Instead, my friend and I placed our frozen yogurt cups in the bright pink cardboard box and walked a few blocks away to savor our sweet treat.

I came here for a quick drink. The fruit juice I ordered was fresh and you had the option to choose as many fruits to blend. My issue was the cost of the fruit juice. I found it to be pricey for the quality of the blended fruit juice.

Went here for the first time today. We were greeted warmly and offered samples of the flavors. We opted for the baklava, it was delicious. The price was reasonable and the to-​go box was super cute. I’ll be back!

Stumbled across this place after discovering a long line at Serendipity 3.
The atmosphere is that of a typical froyo place: colorful, funky, modern. Very cool. The wall covered in cardboard «ChillBoxes» was an interesting feature.
The froyo flavors were pretty standard: chocolate, banana, original, cookie etc. and there were not very many of them.
However, there was a better option than froyo: GELATO!!! Never seen that at a froyo place before.
The ladies behind the counter were super helpful and cheerfully gave me several samples: Baklava, Chocolate, and Honey Cookie. I went with a small cup of both Baklava and Honey Cooke. Unique and delicious.
The toppings selection was diverse with fruit, chocolate, candy bars, and some interesting sauces including praline, hazelnut cream, sour cherry, Greek honey etc. I tried several of them and enjoyed the unique flavors.
The prices were good for it being NYC and the boxes the cups are served in are super cute and fun!
Very fun place! I would go back!

This place has some amazing Turkish and Greek ice cream, the nutty, honeyed and gooey kind that you can usually only find in Eastern Europe or the Middle East. Flavoring is spot on and both me and my friend are addicted to the Kataifi and Baklava ice cream. I think one of the co-​owner is Greek, owns the Anassa Tavern next door, so he obviously knows what he’s doing.

First time coming here and as soon as i walked in, i was greeted with excellent customer service! I was offered any flavors which were all really delicious!~ the flavors taste organic and doesn’t lie about it being ‘Greek yogurt’ considering the sour/​tangy flavors. The boxes they come in keeps your body warmth from your frozen yogurt so it lasts longer~
