The Holy Spirits made me do it. It’s not even 12 noon(mind you) and Dominican foods, greet and hover around you early in the morning when you go in to Capri. Could be a turn off to some to eat so heavy in the a.m., but I’m not complaining since I was out and about with my mom.(I rarely eat this heavy– so I just went for it at 11:25 am). Capri Restaurant is right smack in Dominican Land, on St. Nicholas. It’s one of those restaurants where you don’t need the hospitality of a host to escort you to your seat. You find a seat up front or head to the stairs in the back and enjoy. The menu is dominated by every Dominican staple you can think of– all sorts of meats and their accompanying carbs/starch. I started with a Dominican shake called Batido de Lechosa– essentially it’s papaya pulp, sugar, regular milk and evaporated milk then put in a blender– which was weak. I settled for the Fried Fish, and Tostones and basically, the fish was bland and absent from any flavor and seasonings. Generally, I think that Capri’s main attraction had to be the great, old-school merengue from yesteryears playing in the background– which in a heartbeat, I just wanted to get up and dance! But with all joke aside, customer service was very pleasant, friendly and attentive. But I also believe, that their shimmer they used to have ages ago, has dulled.

I’ve been to this restaurant a few times before and the food was decent so far so good, until yesterday 12÷22÷15 that I went and bought baked chicken with rice and beans and my sister and I who also ate some of it, we end it up today with really bad stomach ache and with diarrhea. I have no idea what they put on my food and don’t even want to think about if they didn’t wash they hand or something. Anyway I’m never coming back!

Dominican food done right. My fam gets it from here all the time. As far as Dominican food goes this is as good as it gets from restaurants and the price is ridiculously low. Always get the beef stew, fries, and flan. The chicken is good too. With that said, Dominican food is alright but use the sauces and spices or it’s lacking flavor on it’s own.

My friends were raving to me about how good the food was here, especially their chicken and rice n beans. So I decided to give it a try. We came here on a freezing Tuesday night. This place is pretty small, but as we entered, I saw a dining space tucked away in the back room, separate from the open kitchen. Perhaps we came on a bad night, or maybe cuz my food expectations are higher… but the food I tasted that night was mediocre at best. Rice n beans were decent, nice flavor in the sauce and I enjoyed mixing with the rice. But the chicken was flavorless and very dry. And for refreshments, we had a strange raspberry flavored soda, which tasted like cough syrup. Meh. I’ll pass. I don’t think I’m coming back here again.

My go to restaurant when I’m lazy and don’t want to cook but want home style Spanish food. Everything is good from the chicken to the fresh juices, and most importantly reasonably priced .The ladies who work there don’t have that stank hurry up and order attitude which is great because I’m very indecisive. You will never be disappointed…

I’m new to the heights and stumbled upon this place because a menu was dropped off at my house. I figured if the locals eat here it must be quality. Friendly people behind the counter. Good atmosphere all around and, most importantly, good food made quickly with soul and a smile. There is a big bright«A“displayed in the window so no worries regarding previous reviews. I walked in as a goofy white guy, trying to order in Spanish. They just smiled at me as I butchered the language and repeated my order back to me in English, asking if I wanted anything else. I laughed as did the women taking my order. Sometimes I forget I’m not in Manhattan and not in the Bronx. I Chilled out at a table while they prepared my meal and then bounced on to my next location. Great experience all the way around.
