Broome Lampshades

The guy who works there needs to learn customer service skills. Very pushy, not helpful, rude.

Very pleased with my experience at Broome Lampshades. The store is a bit of a hole in the wall, but they did a solid job recovering two torn lamp shades for $ 100 less *per* shade than the Oriental Lamp Shade Company had quoted me. If you inspect the shades, the workmanship isn’t perfect, but I don’t know that I would have gotten better quality, or even wanted to pay $ 200 more for better quality, from a competitor. The turnaround time was great too — less than a week.

Been meaning to review for a few months now. Went here twice for lampshades and had very attentive service with lots of options. Salesperson was very patient, especially since we took a long time to decide! Had a lot of good advice on what style and size to get as well, and recommended a nearby repair shop to fix a damaged lamp.

After looking around a lot for shades, I stumbled on Broome Lampshade and the wonderful Mr. Napur! His patience and aesthetic eye are those of a craftsman. It was so easy to discuss color and shape with him. The replacement shades are gorgeous!
Before I left, I looked at for another replacement shade and Mr. Napur knew right away what I meant. When I told him I would really like a specifc kind of stitching around the top and bottom of the shade, he said he would make it for me.
Like the craftmnship. Like the people. Recommend the shop highly.
Good to know that there are no returns and no refunds. Best to ask and best to take the time to read your receipt carefully. I too forget this advice. :-)

Caveat emptor! Think very carefully before you buy from this store. They take no returns and give no refunds even when an error is on their part. And they do not tell you this unless you ask.
I am a tax exempt buyer. After they photocopied my tax exemption certificate and wrote my tax exempt number on my receipt, they still charged me tax. I didn’t notice this until I looked at the receipt upon realizing that I wanted to exchange the shades I bought for a bigger size.
When I returned to the store they refused to return my tax. Instead they insisted that I had take some merchandise that I didn’t want. Despite the fact that this is entirely illegal, I gave in only because I didn’t feel like getting into a fight over $ 13 in tax.
Moreover, their inventory is sparse. When I bought the shades, I specifically said that I might need to exchange them for a larger size. They neither mentioned their no refund or exchange policy, nor did they tell me that the shades I selected were not available in a larger size! In my mind this is not just carelessenss, it’s a pattern of deceipt.
I strongly recommend that you shop elsewhere.

This is my best source for lampshades and custom shades if you want them done fast, and well priced.
They have done shades for me for all my projects. Thanks guys!

This hole in the wall shop just off the Bowery has a great selection of lampshades and finials. The prices are OK and the staff was really helpful. They also gave me right size harp for my lamp.
