It’s ordinary people who make New York City extraordinary. Making friends with them is one of the most joyful things to do in the city.
This breakfast cart is run by an Egyptian owner. He is the fastest person selling breakfast I have ever seen! There is no waiting at this place even though being next to the Lex & 59^th subway makes this cart very busy in the morning.
Usually when I walk up to the subway, the guy sees me 20 feet away and when I step up to the cart a little brown bag has already been there waiting for me. The guy remembers people’s preferences and patterns. If you buy your breakfast there and make friends with him, you don’t really need to say anything about what you want. He knows!
How to find this unique breakfast cart? It’s the cart with a picture of a cute little girl on top of it. She is the daughter of the owner and the boss of this awesome business.
How did I know the owner is from Egypt? Well, on the Monday morning right after Mubarak collapsed and stepped down, every guy on the line said «Congratulations» to him. I said it too and asked if it’s for politics. He said yes with a big smile. At that moment I knew I need unique New York.
