Where «Taste Is King» meets «My Body Is My Temple»!
Delicious vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free food that’s fresh and healthy. We pride ourselves on making everything from scratch using just fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, select Ayurvedic herbs and spices — that’s it! This isn’t your typical «Indian restaurant food» that leaves you with a greasebomb in your stomach — this is powerful plant-based food that energizes and nourishes your body and pleases your tastebuds. Like it spicy? Be sure to ask for your famous Hot Sauce on the side. Happy eating!
History
Established in 2013.
Shiv and Shikha started Bombay Sandwich Co. at Brooklyn’s Smorgasburg food festival in June 2012. From under a little tent the couple soon developed a loyal following of foodies who wanted something awesomely tasty, quick, healthy and vegan.
The problem Shiv and Shikha sought to address with their company was the lack of vegan/healthy eateries that offer a solid plant based menu. Too often their only choices when eating out involved heavily processed fake meat, plain and tasteless tofu or fried foods. Where did all the real food go?
With a wealth of knowledge from their Indian heritage, as well as their active, healthy lifestyle in NYC, the couple decided to bring their style of eating at home out to the wider public. They’ve since appeared on The Cooking Channel, fed Bono and provided catering for Spotify. Now with their first brick and mortar, Bombay Sandwich Co. finally has a Manhattan address!
Meet the Business Owner
Shiv P.
Business Owner
I’ve always wanted to get into the food business. Some of my favorite memories as a child were hanging out with my mom in the kitchen, helping her make stuff from scratch by using what she grew in the garden or could find at the local grocer.
My first job when I was 14 was at a great vegetarian Indian restaurant in New Jersey. Since then I studied finance at NYU, worked in microfinance in India (where I met my lovely wife), worked in equity research on Wall St., and even toured the world as a drummer signed to Sony Music.
Despite many successes and then some, all I ever really wanted to do in the first place was open a restaurant! So after visiting a big food festival in Brooklyn called Smorgasburg, that’s when we had the vision of really getting deep into the NYC foodie scene.
We’re happy to be doing something true to ourselves, reflective of where we’re from (NYC/Delhi), where we’ve lived (Mumbai, Los Angeles) and where we’re at now.
Happy eating,
Shiv
