Black Seed Bagels At Hudson Eats

I was super excited to try Black Seed bagels. My first experience was for lunch when I ordered a chicken salad sandwich; they were out of all but 2 bagel flavors, so I ended up with a poppy seed bagel.
The sandwich was $ 10+. Mind you the black seed bagel is on the small side, it was filled with a decent amount of chicken salad, but overall it was only so-​so. The sandwich itself was hard to eat and quite messy.
I still had high hopes, so my second visit I got a couple of sesame bagels to bring home for breakfast. Toasted with butter, again it was only so-​so. The bagels themselves don’t have much flavor and the texture isn’t great; at $ 1.50 per pop, there are much, much better bagels out there.
The Black Seed bagel kiosk in Hudson Eats is the only place I’ve ever seen without a line, I guess that speaks volumes.

Nom. It’s too bad that this place has such a low score. More bagels for me, then! This is an off shoot of the Black Seed brick and mortar. The bagel and coffee (Stumptown) were delicious! Perfect morning breakfast. The bagels are baked in a woodfire oven. You can taste the subtle, smokey fragrant notes.
True, it is on the expensive side and the little shop is slow during peak hours, but I assume that’s because it’s located in a prime location with busy worker bees fighting to get their fill.
I had an egg salad on poppy. The extra dill gave it an extra somethin somethin’! (had no idea that this could be great combo, yum!)

Wait time is ridiculous for a bagel & the line was short. Ordered an Everything toasted with cream cheese. After a 20 min wait, I was given a cold bagel, but was told it was toasted. Cream cheese melts when it’s toasted & the bagel should’ve been warm. $ 3 wasted.

what is anyone’s dream bagel? well usually for me it’s lox with cream cheese and all the other it comes with in an everything bagel. this one however was a lot smaller than i anticipated for 12 $. idk if it was entirely worth it for the size but it did taste really good. oh if you get this bagel DO NOT be fooled the tomatoes might look like salmon but it isn’t lol

Tried Black Seed Bagels for the first time and got the Smoked salmon sandwich with an everything bagel. The sandwich tasted great with the smoked salmon, cream cheese, onions and tomatoes, but was smaller than I imagined for the price I paid. There’s not THAT much smoked salmon on this small bagel to justify the price (~$ 12). Don’t let the tomatoes deceive you lol
I decided to give it a try with my friend since we were both really hungry after visiting a museum. But I’ll probably spend my money elsewhere the next time I’m here since there are so many food options at Hudson Eats.

Wow this was an atrocious bagel. It had the consistency of a dish sponge. Bagels should have a distinct crust and a chewy interior. This everything bagel made me think they kept it in a sealed plastic bag for a night or two.
I will avoid this location henceforth.

If you’re going to go to black seed don’t go to this location. I’ve been to the original and it’s good, but the bagels here just aren’t up to par and don’t really justify the price tag. The bagels are on the small side, and even though they have interesting combos/​spreads, it is pricy. My friend got the ricotta, apple and honey ($ 6.50) and I went with the whitefish, cream cheese and sweet cucumbers ($ 9.00) combo. When we ordered they asked if we wanted it toasted, which we both declined, but after taking a bite we thought we probably should have. The bagels aren’t bad, it’s just you can tell they aren’t made there, and aren’t as fresh as if you got it from their other location where they are actually making the bagels. Also on my mine sweet cucumbers apparently means dill, and I don’t like dill, so I wasn’t thrilled with that. I wish it had said it somewhere, so I could have avoided it.
Overall, I do like black seed and I’m excited for them to open up a store in the East Village, so it’ll be closer to me, but I would say avoid this location. It’s not worth it. I went with 3 starts instead of 2 cause I do like black seed, just not this location.

Can only judge this placed on my breakfast this morning. I got the Tobiko Cream Cheese, Smoked Salmon, & Butter Lettuce sandwich — recommendation from a co-​worker.
It was $ 13 of mediocrity.
I know you don’t come here for the portions, but I ate an hour and a half ago and I’m starving.
Not worth the money. At all.
The stumptown ice coffee is amazing though.

I swear the employees here are all high. It’s awkward ordering because you can’t tell if they are paying attention or not… like they are half looking at you/​half staring off into space. My go-​to here is the #7 (turkey, lettuce, tomato, honey mustard, hold the onion!). Seems simple right? They decided to leave the onions.

Black Seed is an ok coffee spot in hudson eats it typical does not have a long line and has pretty good coffee and an okay bagel but the prices being so high compared to the other options close by makes this location just okay.

Long story, short — great tasting bagels, pretty pricey, if you’re all about large portions, drop that mentality and give this place a go. TRY THEIR ALMOND BUTTER!
I’ve worked at Brookfield place for over a year now, and have gotten black seed bagels occasionally, until recently… When I tried their almond butter! Now I’m there almost every time I work. Add some jelly if you’re feeling a «PB & J» bagel. Nothing really special about the jelly but the combination is a classic. Enjoy!

My previous bookmark had been removed by Unilocal,so it took me well after the hype died down a bit to visit, and I decided on their cookie rather than a bagel, and enjoyed it, even if it is a tad overpriced (though less than the posted $ 3.50 at $ 3.27 total). Zero line in the afternoon, and the supply had depleted as much as the staff member’s energy (months ago they shuttered completely by the same time).

Why this place has such a low overall score, I have no idea but it is WRONG! I dream about the smoked salmon signature sandwich on toasted everything. The contrast in texture, flavor, and temperature is absolutely perfect. The sandwich is definitely small and definitely pricey but as a treat to look forward to, it’s the best!
I have only come at odd times in the middle of the day so I have not experienced a line. The employees are always really friendly and pretty quick to turn the sandwich around. Great job!

Slow. Don’t come here when you are in a rush in the morning (between 8:30am — 9:30am).
1) Average 8.5-minute Queue Wait:
There’s typically a wait in the morning which ranges from 5 minutes (on a very good day) to 12 minutes based on my personal experience.
2) Average 8-​minute Order Wait:
Perhaps the workers can’t handle the volume of orders or perhaps they just need to work faster. Either way, the fact is that you have to wait. I’ve experienced waiting for no more than 5 minutes, but more typically I’d have to wait for 10 minutes or so. It’s gotten to the point where I’d ask my friends to meet me at Black Seed Bagels because no matter how farther away they go (i.e Financier) or how much longer the line is for other vendors, I can almost guarantee that by the time they come back, I’m either still waiting or I just received my order (and I’ve been right thus far LOL).
However, people still come by because it’s convenient and their bagels are not bad. I usually get an everything bagel with Tofu and Avocado. I’ve also had their Salmon Bagel and thought the salmon was very good.
So all in all, come here when you have time to smell and enjoy your coffee.

This bagel shop seems to be deteriorating over time. Started out mediocre and has progressed to completely disappointing.
The everything bagel is know for its toppings. Unfortunately the last one I bought from them was burned (didn’t even toast it so this is how they made it) and was nearly devoid of those tasty toppings.
I’m pretty sure the bagel actually is a leftover from yesterday. Who sells day old bagels in this city?

I would probably rate my food 3.5, so I’m being generous & knocking it up to a 4, as experience here was pleasant.
I ordered the egg salad on poppy seed. The egg element was really tasty, it looked as though there was dill in the mix. The actual bagels are quite small but sufficient for a quick bite. The only thing was with every bite I took the more filling fell out!
I’m not sure if the bagel was a bit stale, it wasn’t tough & I did ask for it toasted, but I’m just not sure it was entirely fresh.

Fine for what it is. A small stand within the Hudson Eats Food court. Their bagel selection is quite limited for NYC and I found the price a bit high for what I got. I had a sesame with plain cream cheese and nova with a small cup of coffee for $ 12. I found the bagel to be small. The quality was decent, but the service after paying was a bit slow.

A bit on the expensive side, but everything is delicious. You can see the bagels being hand rolled and thrown into the oven.
I composed a bagel with scallion cream cheese, tomatoes, lox and bacon (back goes with everything) on an everything bagel. TOASTED. It was everything I expected.
Ordered a half dozen to take home, ate 2 more bagels with horseradish cream cheese.

Dam this place has some serious low star power.
First of all I would never wait in that ghastly line during the mid morning rush to purchase one of these things. But seeing as i was here at the wee hours and the was not one other person in the food court I gave it a go.
15 $ for a bagel and apple juice… expected.
They highly suggested I toast my bagel even though they said they were just made fresh that morning. So i did. Got the typical Jewish bagel, or whatever they call it. It was Delicious and i would totally eat it again. However the «montreal» style bagel made it a little cumbersome to chow down on as it was sliding all over the place. The lox did not seem to provide much viscosity.
The workers are just drones and no love will go into making your sandwich.

What a difference an oven makes.
Amidst all of the hype and critical acclaim for the recently opened Black Seed in Nolita, there is quite a bit of hating on the small, pricey Montréal-​style bagels and sandwiches. I for one was one of the fools that waited about 45 minutes for those bagels the week it opened, and absolutely loved them. I just went back last weekend now that the major lines have died down and got an Everything bagel fresh from the oven, which fully justified my 5-​star review (
).
Unfortunately, this new location at Hudson Eats seems to get their bagels transported here from the Nolita kitchen, forcing us to miss out on that amazing freshness from the wood-​fired oven. Instead, they employ the first cardinal sin that any good bagel shop avoids and detests: the toaster oven.
As I waited for my sandwich to be made, I heard somebody ask for their bagel to be toasted, and I laughed thinking he was a chump. Once I bit into my still delicious Beet Cured Lox Sandwich though ($ 12), I knew he was right. These bagels are quite tiny, so might cry out at that price tag, but the lox is so good and makes for a really tasty bite.
I also tried a plain Poppy Seed Bagel ($ 1.50), but brought it back to the counter after trying the sandwich and asked them to toast it, since it was kind of hard as a rock. Predictably, it didn’t taste much different than those frozen Lender’s Bagels, which was a massive disappointment.
One major upside here is that they sell Stumptown Cold Brew ($ 4), now one of the best cups you can find in Battery Park City.
I really do love Black Seed, but something is lost in transportation. Do yourself a favor and go to the original location and order whatever you see them tossing out from the oven and you will not be disappointed.
