The staff are friendly but being nice doesn’t help an empty shop.
This place has no stock whatsoever, every time I go into this place they tell me they can order it, be it a chainring, a seat post or anything else it seems that the only thing they have in stock are complete bikes that are okay, and a bunch of commuter yuppie gear. I live fairly close to the shop, just last week I called up to see if they had any cleats in stock guy on phone saids nope all out. I ended up walking into the shop later that day to find that they had a bunch of cleats in a display case they didn’t even know were there .
So if your a real cyclist that is looking for real gear not commuter stuff I would recommend you avoid this shop at all costs .
I end up always going to Affinity Cycles up the block, the customer service may suck but the shop is fully stocked with anything and everything a real cyclist needs .
If your going to open a shop up in Williamsburg of all places where there are more cyclist per capita than anywhere else in the city you need to come correct .

They were always so rude and unhelpful. One time I was curious about renting bikes and they told «there was something called the internet» to find that information out. Not shocked they closed.

This is the 3^rd avenue location I’m referring to.
I walked in on Monday with a weird clicking sound. The man behind the counter (tony) I believe, greeted me and showed me what the problem was a cable was hitting my pedals.
Fixed it within seconds and refused a tip.
I was happy to see a shop in the area, and even happier to know that they are not out to bleed the community dry. Good service, great attitude.
Will be using this shop for my future purchases and repairs

I took a front tire flat to Bikesmith, they changed out the tube. I left and had a flat again from the first ride. So I bring the bike back, explain that I got a flat immediately after leaving and that something must be going on with the wheel or tire that I would get a flat immediately after the tube change. The guy looks at my bike for a couple minutes, tells me I just had bad luck and changes the tube. They charged me AGAIN.
I GET A FLAT AGAIN ON THE VERY NEXT RIDE.
I bring the bike back AGAIN. This is my 3^rd trip to Bikesmith, each time before my tire immediately went flat in the ride away from their shop. I explain AGAIN that I’ve been in already and that my front wheel went flat immediately after.
They take my bike again, give it back to me the next day. I pick it up, ride to work. Wheel goes flat again.
I have no idea how anyone can be this bad at their job. But even though I made it really clear to them something was wrong other than the tube. They kept giving me the bike back with whatever still wrong with the front wheel.
I wasted so much time going back to them. And I told them that my 2 flats in 2 trips came right after 2 flats in 2 weeks in the week before. I made it REALLY REALLY clear my front wheel had a problem. And they insisted everything was fine and gave me back a bike that just went flat again minutes after it was under their care.
SO INFURIATING. These guys can’t fix anything and at least one of them was really mean and condescending.
Addendum: After successfully getting my flat fixed at another shop (they found glass in the tire and replaced the rim tape) I went back to let the guys at Bikesmith know that after 3 tries I had to go to another bike shop to deal with a simple flat, and after I tell the mechanic that they failed to fix my bike 3 times in a row, he says «OH MAN THIS GUY OVER THERE IS HERE FOR THE 5TH TIME IN A ROW WITH A FLAT!»
At least they’re proud of the fact they can’t fix simple issues!
And the rim tape the competent bike shop (Landmark Bikes on Bedford) needed to replace? It had been applied by a mechanic at Bikesmith just 6 weeks ago dealing with a previous flat.

What a joke. I dropped off my bike in June, to get my breaks fixed. I’ve tried I pick it up 3 times and the bike was never worked on. I attempted to pickup again today– but it was never fixed or looked at. This place is obviously not competent. I look forward to bringing my business elsewhere. Thanks for ruining my summer Bike Smith!

These guys rock! I was on my way to the Williamsburg bridge for a night of debauchery in the LES, when my bike took a figurative dump on the side of the road and a fellow cyclist pointed me in the direction of Bikesmith. They fixed me up in less than 20 minutes for an amazing price. No judgements on my bike, and quick friendly service. Can’t beat that.
Recommended, and I’ll be coming here from now on!

Came here around 5:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon, after I discovered that my back wheel was looking a little deflated. It wasn’t a flat but it definitely seemed like air was slowly leaking. There were a couple customers ahead of me, but I was quickly greeted and eventually assisted by a friendly mechanic named Mark. I told him about my situation, and rather than trying to upsell me with a flat fix (which would have been $ 18.50 pre-tax…a little steep compared to what I’m used to paying), Mark offered to inflate both tires just to get me home. I still need to figure out what the issue is, but I really appreciate Mark’s quick assistance and genuine desire to help me out.

I’m not sure about the other prices for repairs, but $ 20 for a flat fix is twice as much as what the other neighborhood shops charge.

If your looking for a bike shop look no further. I recently started to look for a bike and went to multiple bike shops to get info and see what they had. This shop by far had the most knowledgable and customer friendly staff there. They answered every question I had, never tried to get me to buy a more expensive bike but helped me buy the perfect bike for my size, for what my riding plans are and most importantly my budget. While I was there plenty of other customers cam in for repairs, new tires and for info on bikes and they were treated equally as great. I can’t imagine ever going anywhere else. Do yourself a favor if your looking for a bike shop try here, you will not regret it

Come for the lousy service, stay for the sexual harassment. Don’t go here. Especially if you’re a woman.

My boyfriend got a flat and needed a whole new tire. Normally we would go to Affinity up the street but they were closed. Bikesmith had just opened up and we decided to check it out. There was a guy in there who greeted us and took a look at my boyfriend’s bike. He decided what kind of wheel he needed and let the mechanic know. Well it turns out that guy didn’t actually work there. He was just a local bike messenger who stopped in to fix his ride. He left and we were completely ignored by the guy working there. He knew we were waiting but didn’t get to work on the bike or engage us at all. He was just flirting with some chick who didn’t even appear to be a customer. Anyway the work finally got done. When he did finally speak to us it was to make some condescending comment about a light my boyfriend made for the front of his bike. Turned out to be pretty expensive. The next day my boyfriend’s brand new tire was flat again. He had to take it to another bike mechanic and it turns out bikesmith used the wrong size tube. The guy working there was a self righteous hipster that apparently didn’t even know what he was doing. I’ll go to Affinity where they actually know how to fix a bike and treat you like a human.

I am so happy I went here to buy a used bike. I had been searching on Craigslist and other sites for a decent bike, but I didn’t want to spend too much money as It is only going to be used to get me around town on the days I work in Brooklyn. My friend Jill gave me the heads up on this place, and I went to check out a bike she had seen that would have suited my needs. The bike had been sold, since I delayed a bit with getting there. I still needed something practical and the guys at the shop found just the right mountain bike for me, so I didn’t leave empty handed! One of the guys showed me how to work the gears while the other guy mounted my U lock onto the frame — nice people. I rode it to the subway station and when I got back to the Bronx, where I live, I really put the gears to use going up the hill to my apartment. My boyfriend was psyched on it too. It was the best 100 bucks I’ve spent in a while, and if anything goes wrong I get free service for six months. WOOHOO. THANKS GUYS!

Nicest bike shop ever! They fixed my flat and wonky chain and were so great about it – never made me feel stupid or gave me the too cool ‘tude I’ve come to expect at most bike shops. Awesome staff.

Normally they close at 8, but I had a flat tire at 9pm and they were only open to fix another emergency flat (good guys!). I showed up, they gave me a beer (WTF!) and we hung and talked and watched weird YouTube vids while I waited. They did a great job, and fast!
My bike needed a tune up, and they charge $ 66 so I was gonna shop around a bit, but because they were such bad asses I decided to bring it back a few days later. They called when it was ready and it works like new.
If this shop were a person I’d make sweet love to it.

Everyone in this store is super helpful and very nice. Every time I go in there my questions are answered without judgement, and they always take care of my bike. The space is great as well. So glad this moved into the neighborhood, and most likely won’t ever bring my bike anywhere else. Prices are all very fair as well. Definitely bring your bike here over others in the area.

these guys are awesome.
i keep bringing in my ten speed from high school, and they are very supportive of my decision to keep it.
they always give it a lot of love and respect. just like the really fancy bikes they work on.
they don’t make me feel like a stupid woman, and they are kind and gentle and good people.
i believe in this place.

I’m really disappointed in this place– the people are very friendly and seem quite knowledgeable, but I have no idea if they do good work or not because they never managed to do anything.
I came in to get new handlebars about a month and a half ago, on a Monday. They were very nice and helpful and said they would order me the ones I wanted and quoted me a price, and took half for a deposit. They said the handlebars would arrive by Friday or Saturday at the latest (5 or 6 days later) and they would call me when they arrived.
I returned 3 weeks later to see what was up, not having received a phone call, and they apologized and said there was a problem with the order, but they would have it overnighted so it should arrive in the next day or two– they would call me when they arrived.
Two weeks later, after still not receiving a single phone call updating me on my order, I returned to get my deposit back.
Very disappointing and a terrible way to run any business, but especially a new one.

If people are great stuff is amazing the building is very clean and they show you how to air up your tires regardless!

Okay, I know it looks slightly suspect when a place gets a 5-​star review after they just opened, but this one’s the real deal.
I live close by and was happy that this place was in such proximity to my house, especially after a really bad experience at another bike place on Grand St. a couple of years ago.
I took in my 20-​year old Kona for some new tires and a tune-​up. They got it done really fast (I’m sure I must have been in a low-​demand window) and at a really reasonable price. $ 66 for a tune-​up! It’s like having a new bike. I ride my bike pretty much every day and it rides more smoothly than it has in years.
They’re definitely in the inventory-​building stage, but it’s great to have a place like this so close.

What a bike shop. Brought my vigorelli in for some holdfast straps and Ron told me 2 – 3 hours cause they did not have the straps in the store and he would have to get them from the other Bikesmith in Cobble Hill. And 1 hour later straps were delivered to the store and installed on my bike… These guys are great… Thanks guys…
