Bigoli is the perfect place with the New York ambiance. The Staff is beyond pleasant, tentative and friendly. I love that the owner was there and was as well very tentative. I am 25 and would recommend this place to any of my friends, Colleagues, or parents. The food is very delicious. Good Octopus is hard to come by and they owner explained the way the Octopus was made and it defiantly lived up to it expectation. I had Prosecco w/a splash of Chambord, which was perfect for a mid-summer day. I took a look at their cocktail menu, which looked just as delicious as their food menu. I will be trying this place late night and for brunch very shortly and would recommend that you do the same!

Manager Giuseppe remembered us from previous visits, was very personable as was Orlando our waiter. Food was fabulous: started with mussels in red sauce, then seafood risotto, then veal chop-YUMMY. Orlando suggested the perfect wine to compliment dinner. Definitely will go back and recommend to friends & family.

Bigoli is a good Italian restaurant in the north West Village, situated a few buildings in on 13th in a townhouse. It’s deceivingly large; when you walk down through the patio and lobby area, the rear of the restaurant opens up into a very spacey area complete with huge skylight. It seemed a little too open and quiet back there(I didn’t feel like I was in a New York restaurant) but it wasn’t anything that detracted from the meal. The food was not outstanding but it was good and the service was excellent. Since we had a Groupon, the meal was very affordable, but I could see it getting a little pricey.

I really liked the STAFF here, from the honest-to-God Italian maitre d’ and bartender, to the enthusiastic, polite and eager to please servers. Based on service alone, a 5-star experience. Another major positive was a quiet atmosphere in the restaurant’s main(rear) dining room so that a group of 6 could all hear one another speaking in normal tones at table. As other reviewers have pointed out, there is a fabulous atrium /skylight in that back dining area that in either a rainstorm, or conversely, on a bright sunny day, must be magnificent. From there though, I am sad to say that I am afraid I can smell the proverbial blood in the water that presages an unhappy ending. Our party of 6 were able to get a table here with less than 2 hours notice, on a Friday night, which probably tells you a lLOT of what you need to know. If I had to summarize my criticism of Bigoli in just one word, I would say: Incoherent. The location is hot: West 13th Street townhouse with an open front patio that leads to the front room bar & lounge. The front of house staff are welcoming and friendly. Did I mention there are REAL Italians working here??? And they represent their nation well :). But yikes… The Décor. That’s the first place I found really Bigoli really incoherent. Strangle, whitish & red 70’style«broken tile» floor motif in the front lounge, leading down a short hallway that look like a diner on Staten Island that’s trying for«understated elegance»(3 steps up to the dining room, which is sleepily papered in a forgettable neutral tone with odd and equally forgettable wall sconces). Not only that, but there is some sort of large, spaceship-shaped fixture in the dining area, again decorated with an odd 70’s-style sparkle-stucco surface. I think it’s their pizza oven, and while it is actually kind of interesting looking, it definitely makes you feel not only as if you are on Staten Island, but that you visited on a day that the Martians decided to drop in, too. And the plates(yes…the b*tch said PLATES) and wine glasses had zero pizazz, adding to the overall«incoherent» atmosphere and schizophrenic ambiance. The food was inconsistent, from solid /OK to a little strange. I made a mis-step ordering the spinach fettuccine with veal ragu. Now… this dish tasted«OK» and definitely was fresh, but my first visual impression was that i was being served cat food spooned over somewhat sticky green pasta. Eee-eeew, if only from a visual perspective. Other friends’ reactions to their food ranged from«Too bad we couldn’t get a table at Crispo» to «I really liked my steak!» I would go back to Bigoli during a raging thunderstorm, just to enjoy that beautiful, massive skylight, or if I wanted a quiet place to hear a distraught friend pour out his/her heart about something. However, I have my serious doubts about Bigoli in its present form making the rather heartless NYC«cut.» The great, earnest staff make me hope they can.

Che buono… We decided to stop in a saturday afternoon for lunch, the inside atmosphere was so unaspected from the street! the waiters are very gentle and polite, but the best thing are the dishes: we had meatballs(polpette) with tomato sauce, for appetizer. Then came the pasta… Amazing whole grain pasta with vegetables… delicious pasta with shrimp… How incredible! And I have to say that this restaurant wasn’t our first choice: we were going to Gradisca, but it was closed(for lunch). We’ve been so lucky!!! Ouch… pretty expensive though.

So I think this place is still trying to feel itself out. I went for Sunday brunch with a few friends and we ordered most of that menu, and everything was alright, but I wasn’t blown away. The names of the dishes and the ingredients are all awesome — I was so excited to go… but the taste didn’t really follow through. I hope they figure out how to kick it up a notch because there is definitely potential. The chocolate hazelnut pancakes were the biggest disappointment… it sounds amazing but it just didn’t taste special at all. Same with the egg pizza. The service was lovely though, really nice group of people. Check it out!

Took my sister here while she was visiting from out of town. We both had a great experience at Bigoli. The entire wait staff was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. By the end of the night our waiter was sharing personal stories and even gave us shots on the house! The atmosphere of the restaurant was very pleasant. The space is open and could host a lot of people; it was fairly empty while we were there however. The food itself was good, but nothing that I was overly excited to write home about. Solid Italian fare with a few creative dishes mixed in. Pretty good wine selection with fair price points. I’ll definitely be back to Bigoli based purely off of the wait staff and service I received

went last night for dinner. wasn’t impressed at all. i thought the atmosphere in the back room made it feel like a tacky hotel, especially with the strange lights lining the fake windows. we had zucchini parmigiana, zucchini string fries, caprese salad, spaghetti, and the risotto special(asparagus and truffle oil). the food was good but nothing to brag about. given that similar but better restaurants are just a few steps away(Gradisca, Bar Six, Da Andrea), you’re better off someplace else.

The food, service, atmosphere were good. But the price is a bit expensive for the portion of food. Also, there isn’t anything extraordinary that makes it stand out too much and make it a must-go. Perhaps it would be a good place to bring a date.

Went here b/c of a 30⁄60 deal from Living Social and it is kind of in my neighborhood. Portions were small. Service was good. Food was tasty. Appetizer was the chickpea fries… small portion, but a decent starter(***) Risotto had a decent size portion and was nice and creamy(****) I only got 4 scallops with my meal, but they were cooked just right(****) The dessert was decadent(Bigoli bar)(*****) I’d come here again, but probably wait for another discount to do it.

I dined here last night with a friend of mine and cannot say enough good things about this restaurant(which used to be Gonzo back in the day, which I also loved). Atmosphere was great — cozy but with room between the tables, which is sometimes hard to find in the west village. Service was totally fine, despite some other posts. Our waiter was very attentive. And the food was amazing! I had the burrata w/tomatoes and prosciutto and the veal agnolotti w/mushrooms and kale. Both were outstanding. I thought the portion sizes were just fine — not huge… which was fine b/c the food is very rich. My friend had the squash soup and hangar steak which also looked good. All in all this is definitely a place I would recommend for night out with friends, a date, bringing people from out of town — pretty much any occasion. Great food and atmosphere — looking forward to going back. PS: our bill for a good bottle of chianti, 2 apps, and 2 entrees came to $ 140 total.

I had the pleasure of experiencing Alex Stratta’s cooking at Renoir when I was in Las Vegas several years ago. Everything about Renoir was perfect. So I was enthusiastic about dining at Bigoli. My expectations were high, but not outrageous. I have dined several times at La Mangeoire since Christian Delouvrier took charge of the kitchen, and I’ve truly enjoyed his outstanding«peasant» French cooking. I expected the Italian counterpart, at Bigoli. But Bigoli proved to be a disappointment. Roasted Parsnip and Ginger Soup with Green Apple and Rosemary was excellent but the portion was miniscule. Wild Bass was extremely fishy(which is the nature of the fish especially the skin) but it wasn’t served with a sauce to counteract the fishiness. The fennel accompaniment was lukewarm but the cold blood orange accompaniment was great. The noise level was nearly deafening when the restaurant was full, approaching that of ABC Kitchen.(But I LOVEDABC Kitchen so that’s the ONLY comparison!) The service started off attentive and cordial, but the wait staff became increasingly anxious and downright manic once every table was filled. I prefer a dining experience that is «relaxed» or one that has«electricity in the air»(e.g. the original Le Cirque) but Bigoli is FAR from relaxed, and has more«anxiety» than«electricity». Other gripes… Our waiter returned right before we were finishing each course and asked«are your dishes OK?» The tables are so close together that at times, the waiters literally have to carry trays of food directly over the heads of those who are dining. Luckily there weren’t any«mishaps». They also brought the check w/o asking and didn’t ask if we wanted more coffee. I also didn’t appreciate having to stare directly at a security camera on the wall in front of me during the entire meal. One would think that if cameras have to be in restaurant dining rooms, designers would place them inconspicuously rather than directly adjacent to a large mural! My dining partner, however, claimed to have had a fabulous meal so one’s experience here can vary even during the same meal.. As a final note: Bigoli has one single person Male Restroom and one single person Female restroom. This seems to be becoming a trend at newly opened NYC restaurants these days. But at Bigoli, you get to stand in front of the kitchen and watch the manic anxiety of the kitchen and wait staff while waiting for the lavatory. Just hope that there isn’t too long a line!

This restaurant is on my block, so I was hoping it would be a great eating place. Instead, it was just OK, and very overpriced, and I would not have eaten there at all were it not for a «Living Social» discount. The bread was tasty, and the arugula salad was fine. My friend had the bucatini and was quite satisfied. But I had the Roasted Arctic Char, and it was rather tasteless and oily, served on top of some veggies that really did not go very well with fish. And you don’t get very much for your $ 26 – maybe sufficient to feed a bulimic. The atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming, a lovely room. The service was congenial.

Food= 5 stars Service= 4 stars Price= 2 stars My friend had emailed me about this restaurant opening and then two other friends asked if I wanted to go with them on Friday night, so its definitely becoming popular quickly. My friend and I arrived on time but had to wait for the other 2 in our party; the host nicely checked our coats and my friend’s bag and then had us wait at the bar. The bartender was knowledgeable and recommended a good wine for me and made my friend’s martini exactly to her liking. The food was excellent. Bread and olives were provided, with a yummy pesto dipping sauce. We all shared the burrata and chickpea fries. The chickpea fries were really good. For an entrée I had the spinach ravioli, which was very fresh and good. My friends all enjoyed their entrees as well. Service was friendly and attentive, but a bit spotty. They are probably still working out the kinks. We had a few different waiters helping us. They had trouble getting my friend’s drink order correct but all in all they were fine. My only really problem was the price for the quantity of food. I’m no stranger to eating out at nice restaurants, and I’m a fairly small person so I don’t eat huge portions, but $ 20 should get me more than 4 ravioli. Those were gone way too quickly. And since they were so good, I would have eaten more. My friends’ portions were all tiny too. Luckily with the bread and appetizers we were ok, but I feel like a lot of guys would leave starving. Overall, a good experience and I would return, but maybe they can work on their portion sizes a bit!

My girlfriend and I went for a quiet New Years’ Eve dinner and are definitely coming back. The menu was full of the best stuff we love like lobster risotto, short ribs, and pastas. Many pluses for the nice dining room with a skylight, solid orrechiette, chicken with a crispy skin, affordable wine. Only negatives were the relative small portion sizes, can’t get a half size of pasta, and the potatoes with the chicken wasn’t that good.

After regularly dining at Gonzo’s for many years, I was very eager to try out Bigoli, Alessandro Stratta’s new restaurant, which took over the space where Gonzo’s once was. After much anticipation, Bigoli’s has opened. I recently dined in the restaurant and was taken aback by the magnificence. While keeping the casually aesthetic vibe which Gonzo possessed, Bigoli has also created their own flare. The bar is elegant, swanky and sexed up as it is dimly lit with red candles and paired with the perfect background music. Perfect intimate setting for a date, or if you’re dining solo, in which case the bartender is great company. The dining room in an entirely different experience. It is very open, however, the acoustics which were once an obstacle for Gonzo to overcome, have been fixed by the beautiful carpeting, and the expanded ceiling which is now an exquisite glass atrium. It is very refined and tastefully decorated. I started with the Burrata, which was perfection. For the second course, I ordered the Pappardelle, which came by recommendation from the staff. The delectable braised oxtail was savory, succulent and very much complimented by black currants and wood-roasted parsnips. Finally for the main course I ordered the Braised Short Ribs. The presentation of this dish is visually captivating, and a perfect way to introduce me to the the dish. It was cooked to flawless impeccability. The Short Ribs were served with a potato gratin made with horseradish. Overall, the food was amazing, the wine list offers a variety of Italian wines which pair well with anything on the menu, and the service was incredible. Alessandro Stratta has done it again! I will definitely be back for more at Bigoli!!!

Brought global colleagues to dinner here on 12⁄14 and not a single complaint out of 12 international people. Great food and good wine selection. Sampled a variety of different dishes, all excellent! 4.5 stars, wish we could have been seated in back but party was large. Will be back again soon!

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars because they’re still in the soft opening phase and they were asking for feedback. Also, they served me the wrong dish and neither of us noticed. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that they’ll improve. Unless they don’t. Starters: Seppia, and Burrata. The seppia(similar to calamari) was crispy as advertised and tasty. Could’ve used more, but it was split among 3 of us so it was enough w/being too much. The burrata needed more flavor and was a little colder than I like so it wasn’t as creamy and soft as it should be. Braised veal agnolotti. Who knows how it is? While it’s what I ordered, what I was served was the braised Tuscan veal w/swiss chard. And since I wasn’t paying attention, I didn’t notice until after I had already started eating(Hey, there’s no ravioli under these hunks of meat!). Oh well, I’d been eyeing that too so rather than send it back, I kept eating. Tender, flavorful, tasty and served w/a reduction that was a little too salty. The chickpeas and swiss chard wasn’t enough to cut the salt and richness. My friends ordered the bass and the pappardelle. Both tasted fine, but I didn’t have enough to fully form an opinion. My friends both seemed pleased with their choices, with the fish being inhaled within a few minutes of being set down. I guess it was good. Chocolate hazelnut mousse and Pistacchio cake. Order the mousse and skip the pistacchio cake. Service: Good. Not hovering, plates cleared, water and wine glasses refilled, fresh drinks brought w/o asking, dishes served at appropriate intervals, etc.
