Big John’s Moving

Efficient, professional, quick. Three guys moved us last week from Brooklyn to Baldwin Long Island. Arrived early, packed us up in 2.5 hours, got to our new house before we did (!), unpacked in 2 hours. Move complete by 1:30pm. Amazing. Highly recommend & would hire again if needed.

I just called this company for a price quote to move two pieces of furniture, a couch and a bedframe which is still in the box — from my ground lobby upstairs to my 5^th floor apartment. Would take 30 minutes at most. He quoted me $ 600… I for sure thought maybe he didn’t understand what I was asking lol. He told me professional movers are expensive and I should find someone off the street! haha How could he give me that price quote and not start laughing himself!!! Insane

You get to a point in life where you don’t want to hear movers complaining about the stairs, the heat, the weight of boxes, etc. Moving is stressful enough without that layer of emotion. Big John’s is actually a place you can feel good about paying: the movers do not complain; they are fast, careful, and efficient; they are superb and professional. I have moved 7 times in 25 years. I have had a mover ask me for one of my shirts ‘because you have so many,’ send a too small truck; ask me if I ‘have bricks in this trunk,’ drag my wood bookcases on the sidewalk uncovered and upside down. Then I began using Big John’s. I hired them twice in the last 2 ½ years, most recently 2 weeks ago. You call or go online and they will send an in person estimator. The estimate will probably be higher than other movers because 1) they are better 2) they send more moving people than other movers. Both times I moved the actual cost was lower than the estimate; and they used 5 instead of 4 men. I think their strategy is to estimate high and come in a bit lower. Using 5 men meant a super fast move. They showed up 15 minutes early and moved me (no packing required) in 3 hours. In general, I would suggest you move on a weekday during the 2^nd or 3^rd week of the month and pack as impeccably (remove those shelves and take down that art) beforehand. After my initial estimate, I got two other estimates which were online estimates and came in way too low. I read their reviews and got the impression they were low-​balling me to get the business. Again, with Big John’s you may pay a little more but you will have a flawless move. I highly recommend them.

I have to say this company is probably the best moving company I’ve ever used. The girls in the front of the store are wonderful. We bought some boxes from them and it was a pleasure. We also dealt with Big John himself and Ed. Every one of them are honest, helpful people. They went over and above for my husband and I. We couldn’t thank them enough.
I HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone. It’s not often that you find a moving company you can trust. Well, you can trust this one. It’s the first time I felt like I was sincerely cared about as a person, and not just a number.

I waited a week to get an estimator to come look into my move. I rearranged my entire schedule for the estimator to come. When he finally showed up, he never mentioned that my date wasn’t available but told me to call the office the next morning. I did so and they didn’t have my paperwork from the estimator. By the time I did connect with him and get my estimate in hands the date I needed to move was completely booked. What a waste of time. I also spent 30 minutes on the phone with their customer service trying to complain but it was useless. Definitely difficult to deal with.

If you’re looking for a moving company that won’t rip you off, use Big John’s Moving! Please! You may be surprised by the quote at first, but trust me, you will be thrilled when they’re done.
They were careful, organized, and professional! The entire time! I have not one complaint. I lived in a 4-​story walk up and they made the move seem like I lived on the first floor.
I would prefer to get a realistic quote from a trustworthy company rather than someone trying to get my business (MONEY) with a low quote and then giving me a heart attack at the end of the move when I’m ready to pay. I did my research because of all of the nightmare reviews I’d seen for other companies. This was one of three companies in the NY area that didn’t have one million complaints about damages, and losing items.
Thank you and shout out to the guys that moved us into our new place! You guys were amazing!!! ALEX, BRIAN, PIERRE, JAVIER AND LENNY!!! YOU GUYS WERE AWESOME! Thank you for being so careful with our belongings!

Moved a a few months ago and used their services, again. First time we used them they were fine (several years ago). We were relieved to have found a moving company (we move a LOT!) that we felt was ethical and up to par in the delivery of their services.
We even told our family about them and our building managers about them in New York City, from which Big John’s received business.
Sad to say, that this time around, we found them to be quite dishonorable.
When they came to move us, they told us that the final price would be more than double on top of their original quote because of a ‘small error’. They only take cash or bank checks.
We had to fight to get them to try and honor their own quote. We got the price reduced but they still refused to honor their OWN quote, excuse was: «a mistake was made on our part BUT STILL — you should understand this and blah blah blah.»
Wow.
Their argument would never hold up in a court of law, as they had put their quotes in writing as all companies do, but we as humans can only fight so many battles.
Drivers were late arriving and picking up by almost 2 hours.
Sloppy service. Disappointed as my family and I have been using them for years, as has the building we reside in. Will alert the rest of my family and our neighbors of the decline in service and lack of ethical behavior on their part.
And the fact that they actually would not honor their own quote and put us through agony arguing about it, is beyond absurd.
Very unprofessional on their part.

Big John’s made our move so seamless. We moved this past Thursday, October 23 and it couldn’t have gone smoother. Every one of the four men who helped to pack and move us was so efficient and, on top of that, they were all so nice, taking away much of the stress of the day. We are so happy that we chose to use Big John’s and have no doubt we will use them again for our next move. We could not have been happier with our «team» and their work!

I can’t comment on the actual experience of using them but the prices they quoted me were simply outrageous. And I don’t mind spending money when it’s warranted but this was unbelievable.
I requested a quote on our move and they promptly sent someone to assess the situation. I wish they’d given me an eyeball estimate before sending someone over so I wouldn’t be an hour late to work waiting for this guy.
The quote they gave me was around 4200 $ to move a 2 br apartment from Upper East Side to Midtown West not including full packing but semi packing — kitchen, pantry etc. For comparison, I ended up going with another reputable company and paid HALF OF THAT for full packing of the entire apartment and everything was packed and moved neatly and not a single item was broken during move.
In short, I’m sure they are amazing, but their prices are simply outrageous and you can find a much better deal elsewhere.

I highly recommend Big John’s! My husband and I explored quite a few long distance moving companies as we were moving from NYC to DC, and we ended up choosing Big John’s for the affordable quote and smooth experience they offered prior to our move. Fortunately, the experience remained at the same high level on our moving days — the movers were all very professional (even on 2 of the hottest days of the summer!) and all of our stuff made it down in perfect condition.

We were having our floors replaced so hired Big John’s to move out everything, store it and move it back in. Everything seemed to go great. Very efficient and quick in the move. Was impressed since I was paying by the hour. Then I made a dumb, rookie mistake. I signed the final invoice and paid without doing an inventory of everything. They lost a box.
I figured, hey things happen and they will be on top of it and find it. It had all of my files from my desk. When I called, I couldn’t believe the answer — the driver doesn’t remember leaving a box behind. Well no s**t. if he remembered it, he wouldn’t have left it behind!!! I was very disappointed in the lack of attention to the matter. They never called back about and I had to call them 2 – 3 times. They just don’t seem to care that they lost something. I signed a form and that seems to be all they care about. They didn’t even call the storage facility to try to find it until my second phone call with them, a week after the fact.
Poor customer service and responsiveness to issues. Would have gotten 5 stars otherwise, but not caring about a lost item is just unforgivable for a moving company. It’s not the fact that something was lost — it happens — but the fact they just don’t care. I gave them plenty of opportunities to at least show like they cared, but they failed at every chance.

Big John made moving a «walk in the park» especially if you had efficient, skilled and reliable assistance from the office personnel Don and Vivann. Their staff Ernesto and Brian were very punctual, efficient and respectful. My appointment was 9:00 am and they arrived at 8:30 am ready to lift and move every box and furniture in my apartment. They were very careful in handling my belongings.
I have moved several times and I must say Big John is the best moving company hands down. I would highly recommend Big John! Big John! to all my family and friends.

I was very impressed with Big John’s. Their initial quote was higher than two other quotes I received, but the other reviews I read indicated they were worth the extra cost. Because I can’t stand the idea of being given the run-​around, we decided to go with them anyway. On the day of the move, they showed up exactly on time and we’re ready to roll. They emptied our apartment with precision and were incredibly professional. They then made one other requested stop and ultimately moved us into our home. They never slacked off, constantly worked hard, and were very friendly and efficient. Best of all, they actually came in under the estimate which I couldn’t believe. I was very concerned about the move and coming across a moving company that tried to shake me down for extras on the day of the move but these guys were legit.

Unbelievable speed and skills. Big John is your guy. If you dont get the insurance certificates right away dont worry just call them and tehy will expedite it for you. Only thing is I miscalculated the tips i wonder if i can mail them a check.

Big John’s Moving helped us with an event at work and I had to take the time to write them a review here since the service we received was AMAZING. I have experience booking movers for work during the past 5 years and for 3 personal moves, and I’ve never encountered this level of service. First, to reserve was a breeze: everyone I spoke to was so polite it was mind blowing. Two movers came promptly at the time I was given and then they packed it up and loaded it on the truck quicker than I ever expected. They were so sweet and professional, and I felt great sending our valuable items off to the next location. I was given a report from the receiving end that the movers were just as quick and kind and professional at the drop off. I seriously recommend their services to anyone!

Big John Movers 212−734−3300 professional, fast and RESPECTFUL. My aunt passed away and the family wanted to vacate the apartment immediately. Big John Movers came when they said they would and were done amazingly fast. They took everything and nothing got damaged. All I had to do was sweep the floors and surrender the keys.
They take care of booking the building elevators, provide insurance certificates things I had no clue had to be done.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

Huge disappointment. Went into store as they’re very close to my new apartment to get some idea of a quote and was hassled because I didn’t want to book immediately & was told I was «wasting my time» considering any other mover. Yes, because there’s no reason to get quotes and you should immediately book sight unseen. Don’t think so. Also, boxes are overpriced compared to other options in the neighborhood.

I had a terrible experience with OZ Moving & Storage. When it came time to move again, I did a lot of research for the best company that would not only pack my art & antiques but would move them into storage with kid gloves.
The movers were wonderful — professional and kind. You can tell they are accustomed to dealing with stressed out relocatees!

Very honest, professional, and reasonably priced. I was moving furniture from a studio in the UES to Ft Lee, so maybe this is not a big job for Big John’s, but the movers were totally professional even with the rainy weather.
2 days earlier, the British lady on the phone quoted me the hourly rate, which I believe is calculated by the presence of an elevator and other factors. We found her to be very friendly and courteous.
The movers came on time, packed up fast, made it to the destination at a reasonable hour, unpacked everything and put together a bed in half an hour! My building had crazy penalties for wall scuffs, but after seeing them move another tenant’s possessions, I knew my stuff would be in good hands. Plus, I was very impressed that even though it took them only ½ an hour to unpack everything, they didn’t round up the time to the full hour.
They charge a nominal fee for supplies used, ie. rolls of tape and box to protect a chest of drawers.
I highly recommend Big John’s!
