Entered through the 6th Ave entrance of this café within a restaurant within a hotel to grab a pricey but excellent portuguese egg tart($ 2.72) and exited through the 29th Street entrance near the big screen.

First impressions: my «machiatto»(sic) was not good, the pastel de Belém(egg custard pastry) was ok, the place is very pretty, and the person who received us was friendly. I could have given this place a higher rating, but the barista serves, along with bad coffee, nasty attitude. A friend and I stopped by for a quick coffee + pastel and our check totaled around $ 14. We placed two cards on the counter, the barista looked at them, and took only one. When I said«we’re splitting this», he replied with a «really?». That’s not ok. A customer should not be shamed for wanting to split a bill. If there’s a minimum on cards, say it nicely. If not, split it in as many ways as your customers want. People who were getting their coffee to go had to put up with his moaning and groaning, too. I will go back and have lunch/a beer there, and will change my rating if the service and the food are on par with the prices. P. S.: «Bebídas» has no accent, macchiato is misspelled.

The vibe is cool — pretty interesting spot. However, my $ 15 soup-to-go was served in those little containers you’d get from a deli for $ 2.50. It was tasty, but not worth it for that portion size. I’m sure they could have hooked me up with a bigger to-go container for that price.

so far so good! I stopped by right before popping into work nearby and was treated to a complimentary Portuguese egg tart(not to be mixed up with a Cantonese /Chinese egg tart or «Dan ta» although Asians do make a riff of this pastry that’s eggier and slightly less sweet). the cold brew isn’t cheap but it’s on point and can hold up against some heavy hitters nearby(coughcoughstumptowncoughcough) although I wish they had nitro on tap or something else special. other than that, the pastry case is well stocked and looks gorgeous, and the staff is super friendly and pretty much on top of things. the egg tart itself was slightly sweeter than expected, a little on the decadent side for me, but that’s not really bad per se(just not what i would eat for breakfast). there’s a slight lemon-citrus twist to it that I can’t put my finger on but I enjoyed the zing. they also serve breakfast sandwiches and a few lunch items. happy to see a new quick takeaway spot so close to work!
