Benenson Funding Corp is awful. Please avoid them if possible.

Wow I wish I’d given more credit to these Unilocal reviews before submitting an application to this company. It took them over two weeks to process my application, which in the New York real estate market seems absurd. Every time I tried to call there was either no one there(during normal working hours) or the person there was unable to help me. Finally, three days after being«approved» I found out they decided to raise the rent price. I would of never submitted an application had I known they were going to pull this kind of move. When I called to speak to the manager Carrie about the situation, she immediately began to defend herself(without first asking why I was calling), which makes me think she obviously knew she did something wrong. She would not budge on the rent and was extremely rude on the phone. I’m just glad I was able to see their true colors before actually living in one of their buildings and having to deal with them regularly. Disgusting and inconsiderate company.

Before I forget… disclaimer: I have just moved in. I have only had two weeks of experience with these people, but if anything the fact that I am already moved to write a negative review should say something. I don’t mean to brag, but I’m a great applicant on paper(and was accepted for other apartments) — I have a steady job, great credit, references, don’t need a guarantor, etc etc. Benenson did approve my application in a timely manner — 3 – 4 days. I personally like the receptionist and my impression is that her total cunt(sorry. it’s justified) of a boss, Carrie(ugh we share the same name) piles her work onto the receptionist and so she is just overwhelmed. For what it’s worth, the receptionist has been kind and helpful to me. Evil Carrie– the one who makes decisions — where do I begin? She switched the price on me by ONEHUNDREDANDFIFTY dollars a month. She returned none of my phone calls and I only got through to her when some employee made a mistake in transferring me. She is ugly — ugly ugly — about matters as mundane as when I need to set up an inspection and who do I make the check out to. Turns out that, even though she said she would arrange an inspection data and such, she did fucking jack shit. She says she will call; she doesn’t. When my lease signing was delayed because the receptionist(who does her work for her, remember?) was sick, guess who didn’t call me to let me know. When we arranged the price and evil Carrie told me the payments, she didn’t say that she only accepts money orders. This woman is a real piece of work. I could go on and on with my stories, but I’ll stop. Keep in mind — this is fourteen days in. Save your sanity and DONOT work with these people. I’ve already had to accept that I probably won’t be getting my security deposit back from them. And for as enormous and faceless as they are, they can’t fucking accept paypal? Seriously???
