A good if not great hardware store in an area that just doesn’t have any. Somewhat pricey, but no worse than the true values on 75th and first.

This store is a joke. They jack prices up as much as double retail value. No wonder they’re always empty. I’ve given this place my business since moving to UES despite the creepy vibe the owner gives off, because it’s convenient. But an incident in which I recently bought an air mattress has put me over the edge with this place. 219 $ seemed abnormally high, but the sales associates gave me 10% off and assured me it was standard(probably something they’re taught to say). I went home, looked it up online and saw they jacked the price up 100%, the same mattress was only 98 $ retail. I went back to return it the next day, manager debated w associate for awhile over phone, then randomly decided he just wouldn’t accept the return. I hadn’t even taken the mattress out of the box, it was still perfectly folded. These people will scam you, and they do not look out for their loyal customers. Do not make the same mistake I did by giving them your business.

Having worked in the music business most of my life my ear seems to always pick up what is being played in a particular store. When I complained about the gangsta rap they were playing, with its attendant foul language which I felt was not suitable for a family store, I was informed they were at the mercy of Pandora’s random playlist! When I challenged this they kept on arguing and I walked out. A shame because they sell nice things but I’d rather not buy my candles accompanied by the strains of m-f this and m-f that!

As others have said: a little bit more pricey compared to BB&B, etc but overall a great store if you need something in a pinch. Also, the store is kept very clean and the staff is friendly. Added bonus: they offered a treat to my dog and fussed over her. :o)

Sometimes you don’t feel like trekking across town to Macy’s or down a ways to Bed Bath & Beyond so Basics Plus is a decent alternative. This place is loaded with all types of apartment essentials, housewares, and hardware. Candles, lighting, kitchen products, bathroom products, organization products, fire alarms, cleaning supplies — you name it and this place probably has it. You can even order online and get free shipping on a purchase over $ 50. This place is kind of like a mini Bed Bath & Beyond minus the crowds. Friendly staff that helped me out on a few items I had questions about when dropping in here recently. Can be a bit pricey on some products but worth the convenience. This location is a bit narrow but each aisle is jam packed with merchandise from floor to ceiling. Clean and organized.

I have always enjoyed shopping here and in the 1st Avenue location. I have no complaints about the stock, the layout of the store or the people who work there. However, yesterday a $ 3.00 item I bought for cash last week fell apart. I took it in to try to exchange. I had trashed the receipt and they wouldn’t make the exchange without it. I understand the policy, but in order to save $ 3, this store has lost about $ 200 – 300 per year’s worth of business. It’s just a little silly and I do have other choices for nice housewares so I choose to buy where I have been treated as though my business matters.

what a great and much needed addition to the neighborhood. A bit more expensive than places like BB&B but worth it for the convenience. Very nie and friendly staff
