Bari Studio

Oh Bari :(I used to love this place enough to pay their outrageous fees but since their change, it just isn’t worth the price on a regular basis. They redid the studio, which looks fantastic, but in the process they tried to standardize their classes by the choreography and props used. I get why someone might have thought this was a good idea, but not why another someone didn’t talk them out of it! It’s confused, overly rigid, and you can’t figure out any information online in advance so what’s the point?
Since the format change. I’ve had a quite a few instructors keep papers in front of them with the sequence written out because they couldn’t remember it. And maybe one teacher was just having a bad day, but her attempt to teach a particular sequence was a complete disaster and it wasn’t the fault of the students – I’d learned that sequence before with a different instructor who did an awesome job of it, which is why I knew it was on her.
Most of the teachers here are really nice and friendly, no matter what they might stumble over instruction-​wise, which is great. But some just have that extra something special. I think Quincie, Ali, and Ashley are some of the longest-​time teachers but they seem kind of uninspired by the new format too, unless I’m projecting. Their classes just don’t have the same energy they used to though they themselves are always warm and wonderful. AJ and Kory are always awesome too, and I really love going to them. Their energy is infectious. I haven’t had her as often but Melanie’s fun, and sometimes she really kicks butt. But I see all of these names on the schedule much less than I used to, which is sad. I’m sort of wary of trying new teachers anymore because the track record just isn’t what it used to be.
It always seems cruel to name teachers whose style I just didn’t click with, so I won’t, but there are a lot. My recommendation is to try some of those aforementioned people. If you don’t like it with them, I think you probably won’t like the workout at all.

In order to take the other bari classes here, you need to take the prerequisite which is BARIONE. The class is an introduction to all the classes offered, such as bounce, dancing, not too sure. there was a lot going on. I wasn’t too much of fan of the dancing part, but everything else was ok. I especially liked bouncing on the trampoline. It was more of a fun class rather than a workout class for me though.

We had an amazing workout at Bari Studio. I mean, my arms were sore for almost a full week!
This location has only one studio and two changing areas. However, the entire place is very clean and beautiful. The playlist our instructor chose was on point and so was our instructor.
Would love to go back and highly recommend this spot.

The Bounce classes here are a super serious workout. Perfect combination of non-​stop cardio on the trampoline alternated with body conditioning sections, and a solid mental challenge with the trampoline choreography. I also like how my knees don’t hurt due to the support of the trampoline. For the conditioning sections, sometimes you’ll work with the free weights, other times you’ll work with the resistance bands, but either way you will feel the burn. Honestly, I am not much of a sweater, but this class makes me sweat and grit my teeth, particularly with the killer leg and glute isometric conditioning movements toward the end of class. Best of all I always find myself smiling during the trampoline sections. It’s a serious cal burning and toning workout that is also fun! Great music. This is in my regular rotation with barry’s, P57, and flywheel.
Front desk is friendly and Sai’s bounce class is my fav!

Gave Bari another chance but it’s still not my cup of tea. Instructor AJ was lovely, but I did not like the format of the class and the music was not right for the class. The purpose of music in fitness classes is really to move WITH it, not around it. Also, I am not sure that the choreographed weight lifting moves are really that beneficial or functional. It just feels gimmicky.

I took the Micro Karma class with Ailene. She was a very fun and energetic teacher and I would take her class in the future. Studio however was very humid from the class before but I don’t mind breaking a sweat so I was ok with it. I was very happy they supplied towels in the back! Workout itself was moderately challenging.
Also I signed up with Classpass and didn’t need to take a barione class in advance. If you are familiar with classes that involve dance and sculpting you should be fine.

The classes are fun and energetic. You’ll definitely get your heart drumming after this workout. They do require you to take BariOne before you can take their other classes. A good and bad thing. Good because you get a taste of all their class types. Bad because it’s hard to find an opening in these classes through ClassPass.
There are two showers (one just a private shower room and the downstairs one includes a full bathroom) and a private changing room.
You can easily get to the studio via the 1 line at Franklin or ACE line at Canal.
They recently went through a renovation so there are some new updates to the studio!

Tried Bari a few times because I thought I could grow to like this place a bit more than the last time. Unfortunately that has not been the case. The studio is very small so during dance cardio you are always about to bump into someone or when using the trampolines there is hardly any room to move. I think also the moves that they ask you do on the trampoline could you quite dangerous for people are less coordinated. I have done a few of the trampoline classes and although i have never considered myself uncoordinated, i always felt like i had to hold back in case of falling off the trampoline.
The cues are not clear and the dance movements are not fun or flow smoothly. Going from jumping jacks to grapevines for 10 mins is not very interesting. To make matters worse their schedules have changed and now have really weird names that have nothing to do with the exercise.
If you are looking for a good dance cardio place i highly recommend Dancebody instead. Now they know how to lead a fun challenging class with kick ass music to boot.
On another minor note why do the people who work at Bari never greet their customers? Always too busy engaging in conversation with each other.

I was lucky enough to book a barione class after weeks of trying on cp. this is an intro class that you have to take before taking the other classes they offer. it’s a combination of dancing, trampoline workouts and strength training all within one hr. overall, I enjoyed the trampoline part the most and felt that part of the workout the instructor was able to help critique our forms. we did lots of core and leg exercises. the dancing section was my least favorite since I haven’t danced in years and my body was not in tune with the movements. would I come back? yes. just to try out their other classes since the whole class did get a good sweat from the workout. only drawback of their studio is there’s only one bathroom and one shower.

I used to be a very avid Bari-​goer for about 2 years. I swore by Bari over and above any other workout, mainly because it was always fun, challenging, and unpredictable. Recently, Bari changed around their schedule and introduced 30+ new class offerings (yes — 30). I believe these new class types are a result of their recent decision to franchise the Bari model and offer some consistency between their locations, but I find them utterly confusing.
Any entrepreneur will tell you that the key to success is simplicity. I have tried every boutique workout in NYC and the best ones have a straightforward class offering with ~5 options maximum. There are no descriptions anywhere online for these classes, so when you sign up it’s essentially a crap chute.
I signed up for their ‘Micro — Walk the Plank’ class, which I really hated. I barely broke a sweat relative to the other Micro classes I used to take with the old format, not to mention the class consisted of planks & resistance bands the entire time and was incredibly hard on my wrists. I wish they had alerted me of the class format beforehand, in which case I definitely would not have signed up.
I will now only take the Bari Lab classes (which they switch up each time), which now barely appear on the schedule. Many of the awesome instructors have left and I’ve found that the studio has generally gone downhill over the last 12 months.
Advice to Bari: bring back the old schedule and place your best instructors in peak class times. None of my friends can understand your new model, which might be scalable among your new locations & instructors but is certainly not well-​received by your customers.

I have been waiting to try Barione, apparently a required preface to any other class, though I hear now it is not enforced, how could it be, duh, but I think it is really important to check out so you see what section of this class suits you best.
Pros: My instructor Ali was upbeat, sweet, positive, super energetic and just a dream when it come to instructors. Luckily I arrived early and told her right off the bat I was injured and a bit concerned, and she walked me through the sections, and though I was still a bit nervous, I was going to give it a shot. The studio is very downtown chic, small but fine– the class only fits 10!
Cons: This class was not for me. Even just after a few dance moves and jumping around, my feet and tendinitis were flaring up, and I had to stop. Even standing still to rest hurt ;(I was pissed– I loved Ali, and the music and choreography was fun, but I just couldn’t do it.
So the section was over and it was trampoline time, and I thought, this would be easier!
Boy was I wrong– I had to use MORE tendons, muscles and strength to balance on this trampoline, and then we were supposed to jump, front to back, left to right, jumping jacks… I gracefully bowed out at that point. It just was not going to happen. Plus there was no bar to hold on to and with my weaker ankles, I was very unsteady and felt in danger.
I will be back for a toning class, because I loved the energy and instructor. I am not saying this is not great for others, just not great for me unfortunately! It was nice walking around down there though, which is a rarity.

This is a small, modern studio. There is only 1 toilet and 1 shower, so be prepared before you come for class. The lockers here cannot be locked, there are locks that are installed on the doors but no keys are available for them.
The Barione class is a 60 minute class that is broken down to three 20 minute segments. The 1^st 20 minutes is cardio dance, which is basically aerobics. The next 20 minutes is done with a trampoline, with components of sculpt as well as cardio. There is also use of bungee cords that you pull from the ceilings to tone the arms. The final 20 minutes is total body sculpt, done laying on the trampoline. Most of the moves in this segment resemble what you see in a barre class.
The workout has a little bit of everything and it’s good for all levels. The instructors pay attention to posture and form, which is great. Class sizes are smaller, so it allows for more individual attention.
The Barimicro class consists mostly of toning exercises, with some usage of the trampoline.
Overall, I got a decent sweat. The usage of the trampoline gives makes this class a slightly more unique workout. I didn’t leave feeling very challenged — the moves are pretty basic. This place is ok, it’s worth going if you like trampolines.

I very much loved Bari — its as good as it gets for barre and dance classes in NYC. I only don’t attend anymore because I have left NYC.
I was a fan of Physique 57 for an VERY long time. It was fun and I could see a very clear difference (mostly in my arms) and compared to the competitors (Bar Method, Pure Barre, etc), I felt most comfortable as a non-​dancer. I also enjoyed that they had various classes.
Going to Bari changed my tune. Price-​wise, its the same but I found the instructors and staff to be more personable. Know you by name. Smaller studio, higher touch.
I also found the workouts to be more difficult and varying. With Physique, you do notice results at first but your body quickly gets used to it. Little progression post a certain point.
With Bari, you can do barre, bounce, both, cardio or more — so there’s always variety. I felt as if I could go to Bari without having to also spring for that expensive membership at another gym. That’s where my money becomes well worth it.
As an added bonus, there’s only one NY location BUT its literally near every major train excluding the 4,5,6. And that’s not even too far away.
I personally will miss Bari. If you live in NYC, you should go find out why.

So much love for this studio! Challenging workouts with instructors that each have their own personal flare. Fantastic facility and intimate vibe. Best part is that the studio isn’t overrun with gen pop like most gyms in the city.

love love love! I only do Barimicro (I’m not coordinated enough to do any of the others — way too choreographed for me) BUT Barimicro is amazing. It’s such a nice change from the standard barre classes that can get monotonous. Would love to see them add some more classes for those of us with no coordination!

I read an article that described Bari as,“Bari feels like a secret club where hot chicks go to get rock-​hard butts and abs,” and that’s pretty much dead on.
I first heard of Bari because a college classmate of mine helped start it up — I kept seeing posts about the workout and wanted to check it out but I was pretty hesitant because, full disclosure (as you can see in my other reviews), I LOATHE cardio. I’d rather do leg lifts for 6 hours than run around the block once. When I think I’m going to miss my train, I just wait 10 minutes for the next one instead of jogging to the station. Anyway.
Bari requires you to take their barione class before trying any other classes. I finally made it to the barione class with Melanie (who is awesome) and was very pleasantly surprised. Barione is great because you get introduced to all of bari’s options — barimacro (cardio dance), barimicro (sculpting and toning), and baribounce (trampoline cardio). I was shocked because not only was it all incredibly difficult, it was actually… fun. My favorite part was the trampoline cardio — which is not just bouncing around on the trampoline, but really challenging, balance enhancing, high energy stuff. I’ve gone a few more times to baribounce and you POUR sweat. But just when you think — hey, I think we’re doing a lot of cardio and no toning, you do lunges and arm work and abs. I do a lot of barre classes and I’ve found that I look forward to sweating it out with baribounce — you always push yourself really hard, but are so glad you did.
The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because there aren’t locks for the lockers (small thing but kind of annoying) and yes, it’s kind of pricey. But I don’t know, cardio that I actually enjoy doing might just be worth the cost.

Bari is kinda like Marquee/​Avenue/​insert name of has-​been club. It was once a members-​only, high-​fee, snotty sorority girl kinda place. But, hey, times change and it’s come back down to earth a little and now basically anyone who pays can get in — you can even find deals on Gilt City or book a class through ClassPass. Do wear your Lululemons though, or else you’ll feel underdressed.
As for the workout, my favorite is the barimicro class, which consists of small, high repetition exercises done with light weights or the overhead bungee bands. If you’re looking for a more cardio intensive class, try barimacro — although I’ve realized I ain’t never gonna dance like a fly girl, I can still get a good workout and groove along to the sweaty dance party.
The main issue I have with Bari is the heavy use of trampolines in the baribounce (well, duh), barihybrid and bariOne classes. While we hold on to the overhead bungee bands for a portion of the jumping exercise, the other half we just jump without any form of anchor, which could be kinda dangerous for those of us who are new to trampoline workouts or are just generally uncoordinated. Last night, I actually saw a girl fall off during one of the exercise sequences. She looked pissed, embarrassed and in pain, but somehow got up and kept going. Bari, please install handles on the trampolines or let us hold on to the overhead bands the whole time.

Finally, a workout I am truly addicted to! I tried Bari for the first time in late November and became hooked instantly. I liked that there were three different components to the workout — dance cardio, toning, and trampoline — and that I didn’t get bored at any point. That has always been my problem when I work out on a treadmill or elliptical… time passes by so slowly. But here the 55 minutes regularly fly by and going to Bari is the best part of my day. The trainers are super nice and high energy and the studio has such a positive vibe, I always leave feeling amazing. I usually only attend Macro and Micro classes. Bounce scared me initially because I have double jointed knees very sensitive to awkward landings, but now that I’ve gained strength in my legs I am warming up to classes that involve the trampoline. Aside from feeling great, sleeping better, and having more energy, I’ve had multiple people tell me I look great and ask what I’ve been doing. I’ve also gone down a pants size. I can’t wait to see how much more I can transform my body in the upcoming months! Bring it on summer.
For the record, I was anti what I viewed as expensive Manhattan fad workouts until I came here. It isn’t cheap, but if you can afford it there’s no better way to treat yourself than treating your body to exercise you love.

Full disclosure — I’m not a Tribeca member, I just take individual classes at the pop-​ups in SoHo and Murray Hill.
Bari is definitely one of the most challenging workouts in the city. I love that their workouts combine multiple modalities and is non-​stop. The Hybrid class is a good one to start with because you can figure out what type of Bari class you like the best in one go. I realized I’m not a huge fan of the choreography so I take Micro classes. You still definitely work up a sweat. Will definitely keep going.

I came to Bari about 3 months ago, fresh off a pretty serious hip injury and feeling generally terrible about my fitness level.
The trainers and my fellow classmates at Bari have really supported me, built my confidence and helped me remember how much I love working out, feeling strong, and pushing myself.
I am seeing differences with every workout, less pain, greater range of motion and as an awesome bonus I just realized that i have also lost 5 pounds without even thinking about it.
This is by far the most effective, innovative workout I have ever done.
(And i have done many– prior to my injury i spent years perfecting arm balances, handstands, acrobatic pilates moves and my ½ marathon times.)
I have never seen results the way i have here at Bari, probably because there is no other workout in the world that makes cardio this fun and makes me feel this happy and proud of myself.
What i really love about Bari is the variety of classes you can take– there is always something new to keep you moving and interested. From low impact but crazy sweaty Bounce to (at least for me) the physical & mental challenge of trying to keep up with choreography in Macro to the crazy effective little movements of Micro, the bari studio really is a one stop shop. Oh– and the music is awesome!
I feel so lucky to be able to be a part of the amazing, beautiful Bari Tribe!
