Hello All,
I’ll be honest, I don’t often write reviews, but when I do. I’m either over the top pissed or I’ve been serviced far beyond my expectations (kudos if u caught the reference). This review is due to the latter. I’ve been taking classes with Balmir Latin Dance for just over 4 months now and have taken classes with Eric, Elvis, Brianna, Monique, Deidre and Eddie to name a few. The instructors are not only serious about their craft, they know how to make classes welcoming, hilarious and enjoyable every day. I’ve gone from taking one class on Fridays after work and knowing very little about salsa to being addicted and taking 3 classes a week plus private lessons.
This place really is a hidden gem in Brooklyn.
The thing I love most about the classes are the way they are broken down. they are two hour sessions with the first hour dedicated to «shines» and the second to partner work/​turn patterns. There are 3 main boards with 150+ shines listed and countless turn patterns that have all been given a name and hierarchy to make it way more digestible to a newb like myself. The instructors genuinely want everyone to become better dancers and aren’t watching the clock just waiting to wrap– most classes go over the time limit since they would rather you «get it» before cutting a class short.
I’ll say this in hopes of showing some others the light. If you are going to a studio currently, in my opinion, you’re going to the wrong one. If you’ve never taken a class before come on a Monday or Thursday night to check out the advanced class and you’ll understand why I’m such an evangelist for this place.
