Will return. We went to Ariyoshi after a message nearby for a light bite. The middle-aged female server was friendly and hospitable, though very shocked when we asked for one plum wine with two glasses — both of us didn’t want to indulge since we have work tomorrow in the early morning — speaking of self-control:( The miso mackerel was yum. The grilled 5 mushroom dish was a little greasy, though still good. There were several tables of Japanese customers, and the ambience was very intimate and comforting with some familiar Japanese tunes and music.

My friend and I stopped by Ariyoshi since it was within walking distance from her workplace. I found that this place was small(in an intimate way) but that is the only potentially positive aspect of this place. FOOD: * Skewer combo: The beef skewers were so overcooked and rubbery that no matter how much I chewed, there was no way of breaking down the meat. The liver was incredibly under cooked that blood was seeping out and the chicken was a bit under cooked as well. * Sashimi platter: Each piece of sashimi was very dry and bland. * Pork buns: The buns encasing the pork were soggy and there was minimal pork filling. I absolutely detest spicy mayo and while I can’t fault them for drizzling it on the dish, I think they were a bit heavy handed to mask the fact that the buns were lacking meat. SERVICE: This one lady(who I assume was the manager or owner?) was obviously displeased we didn’t order alcohol and constantly ignored us throughout our meal. Also, the waitress who served us admitted that this was her 2nd day on the job and had an obvious language barrier with us. She didn’t know what a «Discover card» was! Lastly, the sushi chef DIDNOTWEARGLOVESWHENHANDLINGSASHIMI! That is reason enough to run away from this place.

The service is phenomenal and the sushi is fresh and beyond perfect. I had the seafood soup, shrimp tempura, dragon rolls and pork buns. Couldn’t stop eating so good!

I am totally bailing on Ariyoshi. If you want real Japanese food, go somewhere else. Get it? This place is not authentic. I can’t even comment on anything being good.

VERYOUTSTANDING food. But the service is TOO slow… My friend and I went there on a weekday night, there were only 2 parties in the restaurant, but it took almost 1 hour to serve the food(our order is not that hard to make). but the food it very outstanding.

Ariyoshi is a small Japanese izakaya located in midtown east. They have a lot of options for lunch and the food portion is big. Do get here around noon, otherwise, the place gets filled up quickly because the restaurant is small. The food here is average but it is authentic Japanese home style comfort food. It’s definitely good value for your money and your stomach is satisfied after the meal. One bonus is that all servers here are very nice.

Massive letdown of late. Used to be a solid neighborhood place. Never again… Put in an order for a couple of rolls and a couple of cooked dishes for pick up at 520pm, was told it would be 20 minutes. Arrived at the restaurant 25 min later to be told there was a problem in the kitchen and they needed 10 more minutes, odd, but ok… Returned to be told they hadn’t started cooking the dishes yet, reason changed, seemed shady. ***As a conciliatory gesture, they gave me the two rolls to make up for the delayed service, a nice thought. Sushi was RANCID. Opened the container and was overwhelmed by the stench or spoiled seafood. It’s a shame, because the place was a real gem for the area, open late, solid menu…

OK this is a quick review which I plan to update once I try the Sushi, but for now let me tell you this is a small cozy place. Maybe sitting at most 20 people with not much walking room. it is better for dinner and not lunch if that is what you are looking for. I went with a group of 6 and for had for appetizers, we all had Agedashi, which is Tofu deep-fried with sweet broth that tasted good. And for the main, I had a Bowl and soup combo. That was Kalbi Don, which grilled sliced beef short rib over rice it was white boy spicy, And Hot Udon Noodles mix in with some bread crumbs. This came with a small salad and green tea. On the whole, the food was OK but nothing I would say stands out that would want to go and eat again or recommend that someone should try. It is a Japanese restaurant, but I did not try any of the Sushi on my first trip. The menu here has a lot to pick from and they have some really interesting options for those a wide palate on the Sushi side, The staff may have a problem with English depending who is working your table so if you have trouble pronouncing some of the food items I suggest point to the menu.

Ok so after watching the news I will not be eating here, and I love sushi by the way. But it looks like inside edition did their research and they substitute fish in their sushi! Smh. They replace«quality» fish for low prices low grade fish. After they tested the fish at the lab the guy who owned the place became very angry because he got caught out there. Wow never will I go here. And they were caught on tv. No thanks

OK this place is VERY small. You’d think they’d compensate by being friendly. But NOPE. I came in around 12:30 and was seated at the very last seat at the bar(only empty seat for lunch). Not only did the waiter have to ask the guy next to me to please scoot over just for me to FIT in the seat — after I sat, a waitress subsequently told me I’d have to scootch my seat all the way IN otherwise they wouldn’t be able to bring food in/out of the kitchen. Um… OK. So my seat wasn’t really a seat. i basically had to roll myself into a tiny ball to eat lunch in the establishment. NOT comfortable. However, I was hungry so I wanted food. Fast. I ordered a lunch combo of Chirashi + hot soba. $ 14. Good deal + a Sapporo on tap.(I had a day off from work!) The food took longer than expected and when it finally DID come out, they thought it was intended for the guy next to me. When I said it was mine, they waiter doubted me and went back to the kitchen to check before giving it to me.(This after the guy next to me said, «I ordered a Salmon Teriyaki bento box»…clearly NOT chirashi!) I ate my food and ran. It was NOT a comfortable dining situation for me. I totally understand if lunch hour is busy. However, being stuck in a tiny seat where I have to basically roll into a ball to exist in the restaurant and having numerous service issues within a 20 minute period is not what I’d expect in any dining experience. Would not come back. EVER.

We ordered a few small plates and my friend ordered ramen. All of the food in general were good but specifically I want to write about the ramen. Compared to other ramen restaurants, this ramen felt very homey. The soup base tasted different. Nothing fancy, nothing over the top, but just drinking the soup felt very comforting to my soul. P. S. kalbi yakitori & chicken gizzard were really good, highly recommend.

Came here for late night sushi(midnight), and it was a bit confusing at first. It is very small, and looks like it is in the front of someone’s house. But we were seated right away and service was prompt even though they were a bit busy. We didn’t get anything too exciting, just stuck to regular rolls, but service was fast and the rolls were tasty. I like how late they are open, so if we have dinner early and get hungry again, we’ll come here!

We kinda like this place, although it’s a little pricy for the portions. I recommend the dish that has five kinds of mushrooms and are steamed in foil paper with shredded red peppers. Very delicious and a little spicy. Asahi Black surprised me in a good way; it was not as bitter as I thought and was easy to drink. Will come again to give their lunch a try.

I’ve eaten here so many times since my first review I figured it deserves at least a 4. Should get a 4.5. It’s a great causal Japanese place that is priced right.

I sorta kinda like this place. I did not do sushi, but rather, a few small plates and the Unagi don. I think I searched all over NYC and this may be the only place that has it. Anyhoo, the place is small and very cozy. I sat at the bar and service was prompt. You get the feeling that they like to leave you alone. I liked that in a way as well. They serve you and remain invisible until you lift up your head and they come over right away. I had their kinpira. Which was tender but a little too salty for me. Followed by the pork bun that was totally not good. It wasn;t even pork belly. It was tough, very little flavor and drizzled with some orangey colored sauce. The unagi don came and I was a tad bit disappointed. The portion is small. It came in a bento box and was the size of a ramen package. The unagi itself was also very small. All for $ 21. Kinda pricey for very small unagi don. In addition, the rice was so so. Not to return for sure.

Came here with a party of 4, it’s a very small restaurant. My husband and I just got back from Japan and were craving good Japanese food, but we were also scared to eat anywhere because we knew our standards would be way too high. This restaurant looked very authentic and had reasonable prices so we decided to try it out with some friends. We were very pleasantly surprised! Love how it’s a small restaurant that seats 25 to 30 people! The staff was all Japanese and very nice. No complaints about service or anything really about the restaurant. It is a small space, so be prepared for that. We were sitting next to a family with two kids and a stroller and they made it work! The food Fried Octopus(Geso Tempura) — so good! Not too oily and octopus was very tender, could bite through it, wasn’t too chewy Black Cod — was good, but one of the pricier items on the list. I don’t crave or LOVE black cod, I feel like there are better fish out there, so I wouldn’t get this particular dish again, but it was prepared well, and was cooked perfectly. Because it’s not my favorite fish I feel it was a little pricy for the portion size(but to be fair, black cod is always pricier) Udon Noodles with Tempura — Amazing. Soup was good, noodles were good, tempura was good! Great dish on a winter night :) Fire Roll — very spicy, delicious! Great portion size for the price. Because this was so good, I want to come back and try a few more rolls! Will def be getting this again Sashimi Platter — I thought this platter was reasonable, you get a good variety of sashimi and it is very fresh tender fish! I was impressed! Buta Kakuni(Fatty Pork) — I don’t eat fatty meats, but I picked off a small piece to try and it was impressively very tender! This dish comes with 4 pieces of meat in a sauce, I feel like it would be perfect with a bowl of rice(but ours did not come with rice) Overall, great experience here! We also got the hot sake that was very good! Will definitely be coming back here to try a few things we didn’t get to and will definitely recommend to others!

Ugh I really wish I could give Ariyoshi more than 3 stars. First of all, I do think I ordered completely wrong menu items from a place like this but it was raining and I was lazy and this place is right next door… In one of my I-don’t-know-what-I-want-to-eat moods I ordered three appetizers to try and fulfill whatever cravings I thought I could potentially have. The edamame was standard, but really where do you get bad edamame? Nowhere, except maybe the frozen foods section in a supermarket. I got the assorted sashimi appetizer which was fresh, but a sad portion that was rather expensive for some tiny pieces of fish. I also go the tofu dengaku, which was supposed to be with some sweet miso sauce but tasted more like it was fried in sake, still good though, and was served with little skewers, how cute. The menu here is huge and they have some really interesting options for those with adventurous palates, and I think next time I should order more of these items instead of the standards I got myself. I do hope to raise my star level here because based on what I’ve heard about this place, it deserves more. On a side note, it’s TINY inside, yet somewhat homey. It’s not my type of eat-in restaurant but I can see how it has its own charm.

Place is very small. Not a lot of space between tables. Food is good, but service took a long time. My friend and I ordered 5 things total, and my avocado salad came out second-to-last? Behind sushi and fried chicken? That was weird. Not a lot of food options in this neighborhood. Only glad I came here because it was late on a Friday night and there was an empty table.

This is a small izakaya that is cozy and cute. At the same time, there is usually a long line on a Friday night so go early. It almost feels like you are in Japan as a lot of the clients here are Japanese. I quite enjoyed the house sake, and it was pretty cheap too. Food wise, everything was delicious. The sushi is fresh here, and does not have too much rice. I also enjoyed the homemade shumai(3 pcs for $ 6). The beef negimaki and yakitori were good too. Definitely coming back.
