Apt 141

My review is really based on my experience with apt 141 or free3 as they are known at Brooklyn flea and the flea at Greenpoint. Walked into the store, picked out a piece that I liked, went to pay, credit card machine broken, asked girl when they close, response is 8pm, tell her to hold piece as I go to bank. Arrive back at 6pm, closed for the night. Go back to apt 141 two days later, store is empty, man tells me all pieces are at Brooklyn flea under Free3. Man calls coworkers, leave message about holding original piece. I go to Brooklyn flea 1.5 hours later, and another girl said she sold it just moments ago. Long story short, obviously no employee involved in this story is making it onto forbes 30 under 30.
Small selection but hit or miss. Some pieces are overpriced. Lots of other stores in the area for better selection and service.

Lots of retro/​sort of vintage-​y summer dresses, often with flower and polka dot patterns. I like that their clothes are pretty wearable, even for girls who are not extra smalls.
At around $ 100 a pop for a dress though, I usually find most of their items to be out of my budget considering they’re pretty casual.
I do really like their one line, 3Free — got a cute work dress for $ 40 by them.

I walk by this store almost everyday and always told myself to stop in one of these days. A few weeks ago I finally popped in… and what a lovely surprise!
The shop owner was very down to earth and extremely helpful. I went during my lunchtime on a weekday and it was not crowded. Definitely not snobby or uptight like I feel some small boutiques can be!
The store gets their items mostly locally as well as from a few shops in LA. I was on the hunt for a cute summer dress I could wear to a casual wedding and ended up with a nice piece (about $ 100) from a Brooklyn-​based designer. I also picked up a simple silver necklace with rectangle charms for $ 30. It was more than I would have spent at a mainstream store but was willing to do it since I fell in love with the dress and it’s uniqueness.
Check this place out and support local business! If you are into sewing or interested in learning to sew the shopkeeper also said they teach sewing classes which i thought was kinda cool.

No, I don’t wear dresses, but My wife and I visited and were pleased by the pleasant reception from the owner, and the eclectic mix of locally designed and fabricated dresses, skirts and tops.
It is great to know the origins of things you buy and we were excited to know where it came from and the number of similar items produced.

I passed the sale rack while walking with some friends and caught a glimpse of a skirt I thought I liked… but we kept walking, because we were on our way to lunch. On the way back, I inspected it more closely and made them come in with me while I tried it on. The sales girl was very friendly, and we chatted while I checked out. She let me know about the sister store –Flirt in Park Slope — which I plan to check out soon.
I don’t know if I’d buy something at full price, but I got a great deal on this awesome skirt!

Apt 141 is such a cute little surprise.
Although clothing shopping was not my plan after visiting a friend who lived nearby, I walked by the clearance rack and was like… okay, I’ll just stop for a minute. I tried a couple dresses and ended up getting an Indian style tube dress and a bracelet that goes with the dress. Both items were reasonably priced.
The staff was super friendly and I enjoyed the chitchat with her a lot.
Bonus: they have a really nice website too :)

This is super cute & great price boutique off union square. All the dresses are all around $ 100 with so many different styles and prints. One of the dress i purchased i wear all year round. Such a fun place to find something really cute!

I love living near this store, but it’s also dangerous… I tend to buy fun things to wear.
On a casual stroll, I’ll see the clearance rack. So I’ll peruse it… just for a minute. Then, I’ll walk away, but I’ll likely soon return to try on that one item that calls me back. And then I just might end up with a new fashion acquisition or two (and at pretty reasonable prices).
They have a great mix of women’s apparel and accessories, from basic to intriguing to adventurous. I’m a big fan of their wrap dresses, which are flattering, comfortable and come in a huge variety of prints each season.
I also enjoy friendly chit-​chats with the staff when I pop in, which is often, since they seem to rotate items pretty frequently.
They design the 3Free line of dresses, and partner with a store/​line called Flirt based in Brooklyn, which ensures at least two distinct, fun styles from local designers always in stock, and much more.
Break away from the Union Square bustle, look for the inviting green façade and check them out. Just please don’t take that sale dress I have my eye on ;)

This is a great spot. I end up there every time I visit New York, and I always walk away with some great items. I own a few dresses, a fab pair of bronze earrings, a knit cap that always garners compliments and a few «intimates»! Whenever someone visits the city I make sure to send them by Apt. 141.

My husband and I parked across the street from Apt. 141 as we had to attend a seminar at NYU. On our way back to the car, I spotted a bunch of scarves hanging from the sales rack outside the store. The black scarf hanging there was just what I had been looking for. Though I have many black scarves, this black scarf had that different kind of twist to it which made it totally unique. I went inside and notice another scarf, gray but with different textures and fringe. I LOVED IT and brought both. I did not have time to check the other items in the store but will definitely be back. Funny thing is my daughter who attends NYU wanted to know WHERE DID I GET THE COOL LOOKING SCARVES! I told her right around the block where she attends school. I now have to hide them or she will take them over.

I love this place! I live in the neighborhood so I stop by often. The designer goes by 3Free and specialize in pretty, casual but chic dresses in all different cuts that will fit almost any shape. I’m slim and flat-​chested and I have a long-​sleeved patterned dress that I bought there and looks great on me. One day I walked in and saw a very busty woman trying on the same dress and she looked fantastic in it, too. I cracked up because I couldn’t believe we both looked so good in the same dress, but that’s why the store is so fun. And most dresses are between $ 98 and about $ 175. The sale racks are also fantastic, great buys. They have some cute accessories too. I’m happy to have a neighborhood store with a local designer. It’s what still makes NYC so special — that you can find places like this despite the proliferation of chain stores and mall culture.

I’ve lived in the neighborhood for years, and although I’ve never purchased anything at Apt 141 I’ve always stopped in to take a look. Often I feel their items are a little over priced for the simplicity of the dress. Today I was very pleased to find some interesting and discounted items on their sale rack outside the store. When I went inside to look further I wasn’t greeted or taken care of by the saleswoman working. She was attending to another customer. Now I don’t need to be waited on hand and foot, but the sales woman was standoffish to a point that made me feel uncomfortable. Eventually she took the dress I was holding an placed it in dressing room as I continued to look. I picked up a few other items. I wanted to know if there was an alternate size in one the dresses I was holding. For such a tiny store it took a while for the sales woman to give me the time of day. I don’t know if it was because I had a dog with me (very small) or if perhaps she decided I was not the kind of customer she wanted in the store. Either way, she made me feel very uncomfortable. I quietly replaced my items where I had found them and left the other dress hanging in the dressing room and left. As I walked by the sales woman she said nothing.
There are dozens of boutique dress shops between 13^th and 9^th streets on the east side between 2^nd and 3^rd. As another reviewer pointed out, its wonderful to be able to purchase something you feel good about, love, and know your coworkers will not be wearing. As a young woman with some expendable income I enjoy shopping at these stores. But I dare say after the chilly reception I received today at Apt 141 I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.

This store is a gem. They make adorable, comfortable dresses that work in numerous situations (work, date, summer casual with flip flops, etc). And best of all, they’re usually under $ 150. Plus you get the added benefit of not seeing the same Banana Republic dress you bought last week on six other girls in your office.

You would never walk down this street looking for a great dress or cute purse, but apt 141 is a great place to find those things, especially if you want them in bright colors.
They have 3Free dresses which are incredibly comfortable and very versatile (the dress I bought has a low neckline, which you can just switch to the back for wearing to work). The sale rack has ridiculously cheap clothing by the same designers. A lot of summer sundresses in bright colors and prints, perfect for throwing in your suitcase.
Accessories are a little more random, I definitely wouldn’t go here looking for a very specific piece.
The staff is so friendly, it’s like shopping in your best friend’s closet (literally, this is a tiny store with a lot of stuff in it).
I only wish they had a website.

Great secret gem on a modest side street in the East Village/​Union Sq area!
I looked all over Soho/​Nolita and the major Dept stores for the perfect winter coat and was unsuccessful. I finally found an awesome cashmere coat this weekend– classic yet still stylish at Apt 141. It is unique and I will not look like any other girl on the street sporting the latest «fill in the designer».
Apt 141 carries women’s clothes and accessories from local designers. Really cool and fun fabrics and patterns. Awesome find in the East Village/​Union Square area. Prices are extremely reasonable and the stuff is really fun and funky.
They carry 3 Free which is a local brand from 3 designers in the NYC area.
Great dresses for all occasions.
There are even a few cool vintage pieces.
Apt 141 also carries shoes, bags, hair accessories, and jewelry.
