I brought a dress to this man when I first moved to NY as it was right next to my apartment. The dress had gotten caught on the bed frame my boyfriend had recently made and ripped in the upper thigh area. When I brought the dress to him, he told me it ripped because I was fat and he would not fix it… I’m 5’3″ and 120 pounds… He was just plain rude.

He’s not much of a talker but I don’t mind that. The prices are reasonable ($ 30 to get a pair of jeans hemmed and he sewed a button onto a shirt for me for free). But I came to get my jeans hemmed and he flat out hemmed them too short.
I brought a brand new pair of expensive (more than $ 100) jeans in to be hemmed. They were way too long and I wanted to take a little length off. He measured and folded up to almost above my shoe the first time. Whoa, I said, let’s give it a little more room. He folded down one more time to exactly where I wanted. He marked it, everything was great, he said I could pick them up in a few days.
When I picked them up and tried the jeans on back at my house, though, they were too short, almost highwaters. He cut them at the first length he suggested. Unreal. So now I have a brand new pair of expensive jeans that are unwearable.
The customer service, the location, the price… all of that pales in comparison to how important the actual service is. And he flat out messed up.

Absolutely the worst customer service ever. I don’t need to get yelled at when asking for the price of a single alteration. I also don’t need to have it explained to me that different alterations cost different prices. I said, «I need the waist of my suit pants taken in.» and his response was «maybe 50 maybe 100, I don’t know how long it will take. Bring it in and I will see.» Yeah right, buddy. It’ll be a sad day if I ever show up in your store.

Anthony has been my tailor for a couple years now. He is great — very solid work. Not cheap but that’s to be expected in Manhattan. He is what you want in your tailor: old-​school, in no rush and thorough.
There are a couple of reviews that have negative comments on customer service — are these people visiting the same place?

Don’t you want your suits altered by an older Italian gentleman listening to opera while he works? Yes you do.

My husband took two of his suits to this gentleman about 2 months ago. The gentleman asked for $ 300 for both suits. Seemed like a lot of money, but, hey! this is manhattan! Plus he seemed to know what he was doing, therefore seemed reasonable. One week ago my husband goes back with only ONE suit this time. This gentleman comes up with this astronomical price of $ 250 for ONE suit. He came up with all sorts of reasons for which he ws asking for an extra $ 100. So, he did not care that my husband was a repeat customer. You think he would charge for ONE suit $ 150, maybe an extra 20 $, 30 $ or even $ 50. But an extra $ 100??? Thats ALOT of money. Because of his greediness he lost two admireres of his work. Good luck!

I have taken a number of things to Anthony over the years. He is a bit more expensive than other places, but he is very good, and your stuff will look right the first time. A good place to take things that require a little more know-​how than a basic hem. Great guy and always good work.

Anthony is hands down the best tailor I’ve ever been to. I fell in love with a dress at Bloomingdales that had a broken zipper and was the last one available. I knew if anyone could fix it, Anthony could. I took the dress to Anthony’s shop and tried it on to show him the problem. He replied in his Italian accent with «No worry. I fix!» And fix it he did! I couldn’t even get the thing to zip halfway and when I tried on the dress and it zipped right up I was amazed. I’ve worn it several times now and it still zips up with ease.
Like Samantha S. reviewed, Anthony is a great old school tailor. He’s been nothing but polite and accommodating to me. Not sure what these reviewers are talking about. I highly doubt he «threw» a woman’s skirt at her. He is from Italy, so his first language is Italian, with English being his second. I have made small talk with him before where he misunderstood me but I had the patience to explain.
Don’t let reviews of Anthony being «rude» steer you away. Sounds to me like something got lost in translation with an impatient customer. He is a kind man and an amazing tailor that my family and I use exclusively and I highly recommend him to anyone in need of a tailor.

I’ve had about ten shirts tailored by him and the work has been great, exactly what I was looking for. It’s difficult to find shirts that fit in the right spots (broad upper body, slim waist) but he was able to take in the torso area with ease. I now am waiting on a suit from him and am confident the work will be of the same quality. The reason it’s four and not five stars is though the pricing is reasonable, I think it could come down a little bit.

I’ve been going to him for over ten years. His work is flawless, and he is a lovely, personable guy. Don’t be put off by what could be perceived as a gruff persona; he’s an Italian native who takes his work very seriously, and it shows. He’s tapered skirts for me, he’s fixed many a suit for my husband, and a lot more. A+.

Terrific old-​school tailor. I needed a gown (Gown? Moi?) shortened and tweaked. I was in a bit of a panic because I could tell this required a high level of skill. Anthony spent a long time consulting about my job, and the end result was perfectly done, and at a reasonable price.
I never would have found him on my own. (Anthony’s shop is hidden away on a side street and up a flight of stairs.) He was recommended by a friend who used to be a costume designer, which I think speaks for itself.
One caveat: He’s kind of gruff and not really communicative. If you need to have a heart-​to-​heart chat about your inseam, you might want to look elsewhere.

I’ve taken a few suit jackets to be tailored here. They were completed on time for around $ 60 each (which I found to be consistent around town). Anthony is not a people person but gets the job done well.

Did very nice job on hems and minor alterations. Reasonably priced. Clean establishment.

Terrible service. Spoke with the tailor for about two minutes about what it was that I needed (hemmed pants). Then, when I started asking about prices, the guy hung up on me, and then didn’t pick up when I called right back.
Very shady.
