History

Established in 1991.

Dr. Tim Merrick has been helping people live full, active, pain free and energized lives since 1991.

«Dr. Tim» began his career in Ridgefield, Connecticut where he founded Merrick Chiropractic & Healing Arts, PC, offering specific upper cervical chiropractic care to very ill patients, many who travelled great distances to see Dr. Merrick.

He left Connecticut in 1999 to practice in Toronto and Ottawa for two years before returning to the United States to open Living Well Chiropractic in Plattsburgh, NY where he emphasized family wellness care.

In August, 2008 He opened Alive & Well Chiropractic in NYC where his services address all aspects of a healthy lifestyle from spinal correction to biofeedback and brain training, exercise, massage therapy, meditation, and diet.

Dr. Merrick has the honor of being appointed Head NGO Representative to the United Nations for the World Chiropractic Alliance, representing his profession on the world stage.

Avoid this place of «business» like the plague. Moved from 37th to 40th. The owner is rude and gets off on being condescending and mean. Just Catty! THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! So I finally
Book an impossible to get appointment «cause theyre sooo busy» only to arrive to a broken down office, in the process of moving… boxes and all. There is was standing in front of the Chiropractic «healer» himself the self important, Merrick. He was on the phone yelling at some poor customer service woman he clearly felt superior to in spite of the fact that she was trying to be helpful. He threatened her with «losing» her companys merchandise of she didn’t give him whatever he needed… All of this in front of me, on speakerphone. I waited for him to acknowledge me as I tried to make sense of the mess I was standing in. When he finally, annoyingly acknowledged me he barked something about how i had to wait because hed been trying to get through to the company on the phone for 45 minutes. He hangs up knowd my name from the appointment book and in a nasty tone, insists defensively, that they had called and called and emailed to no response from me for days. LIAR!!! No emails all calls, ever. I did however receive ONE text the day before… A reminder CONFIRMATION for my appointment! Dont give this man and his place your business. He is a callous human being and by no means a healer which is what a Chiropractor is. His energy and bedside manner is repulsive. AVOID this place! Avoid this «Doctor»! I would have given minus stars if I could. To Twitter and Facebook I go to share my review.

I bought a Groupon package back in February and got an appointment for mid-​April. Can’t complain, such a good deal makes it hard to get a spot. Super friendly staff, great atmosphere, Dr Tim did a great job and the massage was fantastic!!! Don’t forget to tip.

Bought a groupon that included a chiropractic appointment and massage. The masseuse, John, was AMAZING. I told him I had shoulder and back pain. He was able to find the source of the pain, which was my upper neck. He really dug into my knots that were lost somewhere in there. Dude really put in work.

I had a very good experience with the adjustment and massage package that I bought. Dr. Tim was very professional and knowledgable. It was my first adjustment and I couldn’t believe how much my back could crack. Afterwards, the one hour massage was incredible. I forgot the name of the masseuse but he was amazing, it was one of the best massages I have ever gotten. If the location was easier for me to get to id go back all the time, but still I will try to return when I get the chance.

Dr. Tim has a Midas Touch. He is incredibly gifted at what he does. My body starts to relax the moment he puts his hands on my back.
Folks, if you notice, the 1-​star reviews are from people who purchased a Groupon-​type deal and then couldn’t get in to see him because he was overbooked. That logistical inconvenience doesn’t speak to his healing talent as a doctor of chiropractic care.
As a doctor, he’s the best. I count on him to help adjust my well being.

I work right upstairs from Alive and Well for 7 years, never went until I got hurt this week. Dr. Tim Merrick has the best bed side manner and I am able to walk out with less pain. I will continue to be a patient even when the pain subsides. His receptionist is great as well. I love this place and regret not seeing him in the past 7 years.

Dr. Tim and his entire staff are wonderful! Office is extremely peaceful and truly wellness based. Initially came in due to lower back pain, which was alleviated in a few sessions, now return for regular «tune ups».

I went to Dr. Tim with a groupon and it was a wonderful experience. He was so patient and non judgmental and was not trying to push his services unlike a lot of other practitioners. In fact, when I mentioned my previous chiropractor whom I liked (and whom I stopped visiting because my insurance changed), he said I should go back to him regularly. He then asked if I had extra time and had me sit in this light and sound therapy chair (not sure of the name) for 20 minutes at no extra charge. His location isn’t convenient for me but I plan to go there when I can based on insurance.
His staff was so friendly and there was even a patient who was just hanging out there because she liked the staff so much.
The only reason I give it 4 stars (vs. 5) was that it was difficult to get an appointment but that may be because of the groupon.

Seeing Dr. Tim is a MUST for any pregnant women or women who plan to get pregnant. I started seeing Dr. Tim when I was about 4 months pregnant. Not only did Dr. Tim alleviate the rib pain I had that initially brought me to his office, but I know his treatment played a huge role in keeping backaches and body aches at bay during the rest of my pregnancy. It was also really important to me that Dr. Tim was knowledgable on pre-​natal chiropractic techniques, as I wanted to make sure I was taking care of me and my baby. Based on Dr. Tim’s pre-​natal experience, I always felt safe and comfortable during treatment (especially because he had a table that accommodated my growing belly). In addition to Dr. Tim, the office staff is great and accommodating to schedule and insurance needs. I know some other reviewers feel differently but I cannot state enough how great my experience has been!

I’d love to write a review of this company.
BUT I was NEVER able to actually book my appointment!
For weeks in advance, they have no appointments available, even though I bought a Groupon to see them. I would think they would want to get a new client in there and make some new business but, clearly, they have no interest in actually serving the people who have already spent the money to see them.
Clearly, not the place for me.

I LOVE this place. I’ve recommended it to anyone with pain — whether it be chronic pain or just general overworked, not taking care of yourself enough-​pain. I’ve had migraines for 10 years — sometimes as bad as 3 times a week. For the past 5 months I’ve had no migraines — headaches yes but they go away with Excedrin and stretching. It’s unbelievable. While there is no ONE solution to migraines (diet, sleep patterns, exercise are key) Dr. Tim and his staff have helped INCREDIBLY. I’m very grateful that the Groupon I purchased got me into these offices — even if at first I was hesitant and weary. Give it a try — and that means 2 or 3 sessions before you make up your opinion. Be open minded and realize that the solution to wellness isn’t a quick fix.

I decided to give the Groupon deal a try after seeing some decent reviews on Unilocal.I went in not expecting much and I was pleasantly surprised. The office is nice and clean. I love the colors on the walls! The staff is also very nice and professional.
So here’s how it went down:
I came in early so I had to wait until my appointment time. Then I noticed that I could get a free brainwave entertainment session for checking into Unilocal.I told the employee behind the counter and he didn’t seem to know that they were doing that deal. Despite that, he set me up on the session. I didn’t even know what a brainwave entertainment session was but I wasn’t going to turn down anything that is free. I gave it a try and my word to describe it is ‘interesting.’ I could see how it can work for certain types of people but it didn’t really work for me. It was a good experience though.
Afterwards, it was time for my alignment. I was seen my the new doctor (sorry I forgot her name) sharply at the appointed time. It was my first alignment and I must say that it was a weird yet good experience. The doctor is nice and very down to earth. First she examined my posture from where I was standing. Then I stepped onto two scales to see my weight distribution between the two hemispheres of my body. Finally she did my adjustment. She did say the effect of the adjustment was temporary and that I needed to come back in order to slowly establish a pattern of posture similarly to a person that must go to a gym more than once in order to be in shape. I can’t look past the fact that they were indeed trying to get me to come back regularly but I can’t blame them. I know one of the reasons for the Groupon is to get new patients.
After my alignment I had my massage. I also can’t remember the name of the masseur but he was excellent. He was insightful, genuine and professional.
Overall, I give my experience 5 stars!

I originally came here just to try chiropractic care, but I now have become a regular patient of Dr. Tim for over 2 years. Going to get regular adjustments has changed my life and the way my body feels.
When I first began going, I had just finished physical therapy for a pinched nerve and I was still feeling some ill effects of the injury. After the first appointment, I immediately started seeing results. The pain was beginning to go away, my posture got better, and I just felt more healthy overall. After several months, the pain from my pinched nerve was minimal. Dr. Tim has also recommended and demonstrated a few things to help me stay pain-​free, like breathing exercises and stretches. Between these exercises and the regular adjustments, I’m feeling better than ever!
The receptionists are very nice and its very easy to make an appointment as long as you make it a few days in advance. Going to this office has been a wonderful experience, and I look forward to going in the future.

Granted I was new to the Chiropractic experience but I have since seen a handful of other Chiropractors and it has only made this practice seem that much worse.
Thank god I found another chiropractor elsewhere in Manhattan who focused more on stretching exercises and things I could do to feel better without needing to visit an office 3 times a week, as Dr. Merrick suggested would be the only ideal plan of action «in my case».
[Both future Chiropractors I visited informed me that my back problems were extremely minor and I would benefit more from stretching and working on my posture then I would getting an alignment multiple times a week.]
Dr. Merrick would spend about 3 minutes making an adjustment [and 5 minutes explaining what was wrong with my back and how he could fix it with a few more appointments a week] collect my co-​pay, then try to sell me some of the other services in their office (acupuncture, massages, cupping, ect)
[CORRECTION: He would allow the eastern medicine therapist they shared an office and a waiting room with to pitch me on her ‘insurance covered’ message, acupuncture, cupping services]
Judging from some of the other reviews on here he seems to do the trick for some people, so dont let my review stop you from giving him a chance. Just be cautious.
On top of that he basically said «lets charge your insurance co. as much as we can until they stop covering our services, then we’ll only charge you a very small fee every time you come» legal?
[Ultimately this ended up screwing me because my insurance company raised my deductible/​premium the following cycle because of all the expensive Chiropractic services my insurance was being charged in such a short period of time… Yea thanks for looking out for me]

I thought it was such a great office.
I had no issues with appointments, and I used my living social voucher for this. I ended up staying with them because they know their stuff. They take time to explain everything to you, have nice facilities, the front desk is super helpful and polite and Dr. T is a great guy.
I don’t think a one star review is warranted for not being able to book when you wanted to.

Well it’s been a while since I’ve visited Dr. Tim. Well, let me tell you, this guy is absolutely positively awesome. I used a Living Social deal for this and got an adjustment, a massage, a book recommendation, and a new outlook on life. He’s very soft spoken and asks all the right questions. I would definitely be a regular customer of his, if I didn’t live in Queens. I love the color palette of this place, well painted walls, and exceptionally clean. He runs a tight ship it seems.
To all the other Unilocalers who purchased Living Social deals, you have to be mindful that his office ends up selling over 1,200+ vouchers in some cases, at the rate of 30 mins per appointment, that’s over 600 hours of booked time. If he works a 40 hour workweek M-​F that’s over 15 straight days of appointments. He’s a very busy bee if I say so myself. Cut the guy a little slack really.

If i could give zero stars i would! I bought a massage deal on living social and i come to find out that they are booked from now until september for all weekends. not only do they not schedule past 3 months but they want me to keep checking back.
I work full time and cannot come during the weekdays NOR can i keep checking back every day at work. So i basically wasted my money on this deal and will not be getting a massage!

I saw Dr. Denis Martino and she is very passionate about chiropractic and knowledgeable about it for sure. She gave me a brief introduction and cracked my spine and I felt awesome afterwards!
They also have an on-​site masseuse, Yo and she has these amazing hands that do wonders!
I am ready to come back for more adjustment :)
