There are many Pizzeria’s to choose from in the Upper Eastside! We have visited the restaurant before with our young kids since it had seating outside and it was nearby. I believe their pizza is brick oven which is good. Be sure to preference brick oven pizza when ordering. We had also ordered in the past«To Go» Shrimp Diavolo and a Portobello Spinach Salad. They were only four average size shrimp in the dish with lots of pasta. The side vegetables tasted like they were over cooked without any seasoning at all. I will probably stick to Pizza when I visit this restaurant in the future.

Came here after work with the GF for a bite to eat. I was craving pizza so we figured we would try it. Apps: They gave us bread complementary, but we also got Mozzarella Fresca which was delicious(basically a caprese salad). Entrees: We got a large Pepperoni pizza and penne alla vodka to split. It was a lot of food and the pizza was really good. It had the feel of a margarita pizza, with Pepperoni’s on it. Overall: Will be back!

Great place for pizza and pasta! Restaurant is cozy and staff is friendly. The pizza is always amazing and I’ve tried the Siciliana and al forno salad as well and they were both great salads very tasty and well portioned. We ordered the family style pene al forno which was tasty and light. Overall great experience!

Beyond terrible. Ordered via Seamless. Wanted a pizza pie. Received a COLD, Saltine-thin cracker, posing as pizza. Very little cheese, sauce that compared to catsup. Categorically, the WORST excuse for pizza I’ve ever purchased. Took one bite, the threw the entire remainder of it in the trash, where it belonged. Al-Forno should be renamed Aw-Ful-no. Avoid this rip-off of a place.

Extremely low quality of food, especially anything with added meat. The first time we came here the pizza and pasta were bland, I thought maybe it was a fluke. The second time I ordered a chicken parm and it was downright inedible, the meat was total rubber. I shared some with a friend and he thought the taste was definitely«off». Will not return. The Upper East Side needs some serious upgrades for casual Italian food, especially good quality pizza and pasta.

I love this place. It’s consistent and I always return for dine in and delivery. Pros: –Great bread to start — served with olive oil, parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes –Delicious calamari(NEVER chewy) –Nice big salads, I love the cesar — the dressing is almost like a vinaigrette –Yummy pizza(whole wheat available), the small is good for 2 people –Generous portions –Inexpensive! –Outdoor seating in the summer –Service is always good –Great chicken parm Cons: –They are a little old school so you can’t book on OpenTable and they aren’t really sure how to manage a waiting list –They serve red wine is small wine glasses. They fill it up so that’s not the problem, but there’s no room and you kinda just feel like you have to chug it. — Not the best mozzarella appetizer I’ve ever had Overall the ambiance and the décor is nothing to write home about, but it’s cozy enough if you aren’t looking for fancy.

Tasty inexpensive pizza with friendly staff. We walk out of our way to get takeout from here. Would recommend as one of the best on the UES.

The pizza is excellent, thin crust and super fresh ingredients. Prices reasonable, a decent selection of beer and wine. Décor is meh, but comfortable. Our server was a bit difficult to understand and seemed to be handling to many tables on a busy Friday night. I’d go again — but I was not impressed.

Went to Al Forno Pizzeria the other night and it was just OK. Our table started off with the portobello salad. There was 4 of us so we ordered the family size and that was a perfect amount. The salad was good, but there really wasn’t enough mushroom or roasted red peppers for 4 people in the salad. Everyone wanted pizza, but I just wasn’t in the mood so I decided to order pasta. The table had a pizza with mushrooms and meatballs on it. They seemed to have enjoyed it, but also said that it wasn’t anything special. I had an order of penne alla vodka. My dish was just alright. Not great, but not terrible either. The potion was actually pretty small for the price. Wasn’t super impressed, but our meal over all was decent.

Ordered delivery by phone. After being cut off called back to confirm and kept being put on hold. After 15 more mins was told they had received order and it would be here in 10 mins. 30 mins later called again and they said the order was on its way… but said we gave a different address after another 10 mins they said they had no record of our calls or order…

I went to Al Forno Pizzeria and ordered a chicken parm entrée for take out and it was just okay. The restaurant looks really cute with a nice dining area outside so next time if I ever do decide to eat here again I’d eat there.

I wanted a quick bite in the neighborhood, so I decided to try Al Forno since it was a nice night and they have a large outdoor seating area. I ordered the mussels and a calzone. The mussels smelled and tasted so fishy, I actually couldn’t eat them! The calzone was OK, definitely no better than a takeout joint would serve. Service was fine, and the dinner rolls were actually very good, but not worth returning for.

The service was excellent and the pizza was delicious. A small is definitely enough to share if you have an average appetite. Sitting outside for lunch was lovely/if you want shade, sit towards the right!

Hands down, best pizza on the UES. Everyone who works at the restaurant is extremely friendly, and provides a nice, casual dining experience. We also often stop by for take-out, or order delivery. Prices are right, and you get a normal-sized pizza(not these tiny things with 4 slices). It’s a perfect pizza every single time.

Stay away. The owner is extremely rude. I believe his name is Patrice! Foods was terrible probably the worst pizza I ever had in New York. Cold and chewy. I would never recommend this place even if it would be the only pizza place in New York R

When I think of New York pizza, it does not really matter where I get pizza, assuming you are not asking about«fancy Italian-certified» pizza with mozzarella from coddled cows and flour that could adorn kings. That being said, good New York pizzerias are a dime a dozen, and most folks just have their favorite neighborhood go-to’s. Not hailing from the city, merely on a family visit, my wife and I perused the Upper East Side for a frequented local joint and stumbled upon Al Forno. Pizza held its ground, with its chewy but crunchy crust(yes, they balance the dichotomy well), but the wine selection could use some tweaking. Upon doing some research, I discovered that many bottles were priced up nearly 400% from market value. Overall, I would recommend Al Forno to anyone who wants something in the middle between fancy Italian joint and by-the-slice, grab-n-go New York pizzeria. Surprisingly, there are not a whole bunch of these institutions in UES.

Delivery guy brought upside down pizza, called and sent new pizza and same delivery boy who complained and wanted the old pizza back. Send pizzas back and got my money back. No call back from place to apologize. Delivery boy make decisions at this place

I have been pretty loyal to standard NY pizza specialist Italian Village lately, but I wanted to try something different. I found Al Forno on seamless, and gave them a shot. Delivery was super quick, and the pizza was awesome. They have a nice thin crust, but use better quality ingredients than your typical pizzeria: chunkier sauce, fresh mozzarella, leaves of basil, and small thick discs of pepperoni. Al Forno is more in the vein of Patsy’s. I really enjoyed the pizza, and can definitely see ordering from there again.

Al Forno was a family favorite when I used to live in the 70s and my parents would come visit. Everything from the pizza to entrees to salads are pretty good. The pizza is brick oven, so I’d probably recommend that over everything else. My mom(who is a big Italian food critic) still raves about the spinach ravioli and I can also vouch that they’re tasty! Really good mix of spinach and ricotta. I’ve gotten the penne al forno, which has broccoli and grilled chicken in a light garlic sauce — pretty good, but between the two, would 100% go with the ravioli. The ensalada al forno is delicious(Arugula, endive, radicchio, sun-dried tomatoes with homemade honey vinaigrette dressing and shaved parmesan cheese) if you’re looking for something on the lighters side. Casual place, not usually too crowded and good spot for kids — I always see parents bringing their little ones in here!

Al Forno is a great pizzeria located on the upper east side. They make a great Margherita pie and the wait time is usually negligible. I have had better in the city, The mozzarella is fresh and the sauce has a great flavor. Same with some other reviews… if it wasn’t NYC this place would have some of the best pizza around. But with Grimaldis, Di Fara, Patsys, and so many other choices, id be hard pressed to come back. Pizza Snob, I am, but still a tasty NYC pie in a good location.
