AM4K is an after school & summer camp program on the upper west side where students use mechatronics/robotics to design, build projects, compete in competitions and explore different engineering fields. Our program is for students 6 – 9 years of age (Juniors Engineers) and 10 – 18 for the main project based enrollment. Previous experience is not required. We also offer introductory classes with minimum commitment.
All photos seen above, are of projects that students designed and built. Some as young as 9 years old.
–Projects
Original ideas chosen by students
Robotics, an Invention or a full programming project
Built from scratch using professional design practices
Students keep their project (s)
Students choose their parts & construction methods
Infinite complexity & problem solving
–Equipment
3D Printing
College level CAD software for virtual assembly prior to construction
Circuit board design
Circuit board making using real manufacturing methods
Surface mounting soldering
Laser cutting
CNC Milling
–Mechanical Engineering
Students learn to use professional design practices with college level CAD software to virtually assemble their projects before building them.
–Programming
Many projects require the use of different programming languages, like Obj-C, C, C++, Java, Python & Processing. Arduino is very common among projects. Previous experience is not required.
History
Established in 2015.
Advanced Mechatronics For Kids is an after school & summer program on the upper west side where students use mechatronics/robotics to design, build projects, compete in competitions and explore different engineering fields.
Mechatronics is a multidisciplinary engineering field which uses mechanical, electrical,
computer and software engineering in order to solve real-world problems. Students participating in the program will experience all aspects of being a mechatronics engineer.
The program is project driven so previous experience is not required. Every student will take a robotic project home upon completion. Students learn from a product making perspective, which creates very fun problem solving opportunities.
Students come up with their own project (or already have), and turn it into reality. These projects may include tools or devices that the students may want to patent in the future, use as a prototype for future projects, or potentially mass market. The sky’s the limit.
Meet the Business Owner
Stanislav R.
Business Owner
Stan received a Bachelors of Science and Masters of Science degree from NYU-Poly in Civil Engineering. He was the captain and co-founder of NYU’s NASA Lunar Robotics Mining Competition («Lunabotics») team. His team won «Judge’s Most Innovative Design Award» and «3rd Place Best Team Spirit Award» in 2012. He has seven years of experience teaching students; he served as a teaching assistant for NYU-Poly’s General Engineering department, before going on to serve as a fellow as part of NYU-Poly’s AMPS (Advanced Mechatronics) program., where he prepared high-school students for the FTC competition. For two years, he worked at the Trinity School on the Upper West Side until 2015. He is the founder of three companies: AM4K, Kay9 Tech, and Nine Lives Tech Repair. He is a DIYer, largely self-taught in the mechatronics field, and persistently encourages students to find creative and innovative solutions to many problems they may encounter.
