Acting School For Film and Television

I started the class in December 2014 after doing some research and I was not disappointed. I learned a lot and I was finally able to get back in the groove after being out of action for 2 years. I took the beginner’s class. So why the 4 stars and not the 5? Because I was really expecting to be pushed more and Mark be more strict about students coming in late.

Mark Stolzenberg’s Star in a movie class is a joke. Do not waste your money, $ 600 down the drain. He writes, directs and STARS in the film, giving himself more lines/​camera time than any of his paying students. Not only is the writing awful, but due to his enormous ego you cannot even give your input to make his films better. The quality is 90’s home video at best, there is no way to use any of the footage for a reel. I should have known better but it was too late, please take this as a warning and avoid wasting your time/​money/​energy on him or his classes. I agree with the other review that described Mark as «disorganized and skeevy».

Before attending Mark Stolzenberg’s acting classes, I was previously trained for stage acting. I had gone to several auditions for film and television but my inexperience on screen was quite apparent. After my first class I had a lot of the necessary tips to correct what I was doing wrong.
Each of the classes I attended was filmed. It was really helpful to see myself on the monitor. It was also helpful to see my classmates on the monitor, being that I was also able to see their live performance. By comparing the two I again gained insight on the difference between stage and film. After a few classes you work your way into monologues. Mark quickly recognized my comfort zone in acting. He challenged me to monologues outside of my comfort zone and as I rose to meet the challenge, I grew because of it.
His prices are more than reasonable for a New York acting coach. I will note you get what you give out of these classes. Mark will not baby sit you and if you come to class unprepared and unwilling to learn, you won’t take away much. It is a very interactive class.

This Mark Stolzenberg character was disorganized and skeevy. I went to this on a website deal and because of the number of ppl in the class we all paid to say 1 line in a 1.5 hr class. These clowns in the class (some of his regular students) were hitting on the women in the class and making people uncomfortable, and on top of that, the «director» who spent like half the class talking about himself, made about 10 penis or vulgar sex related jokes and even talked about one of his students breasts/​cleavage. Totally inappropriate and unprofessional.

Concentrates on practical stuff, like how to do a cold reading for a commercial. Acting classes are targeted to film and TV acting. Convenient schedule.
