If you are looking for a unique costume or accessories, this is definitely the spot! They have a lot of cool items & I love their unique shades! I will definitely be back again. I took so many pictures that my memory got full! Lol I have to delete some items to take more pictures. It’s great if you are just coming to site see & play dress up!

As can be expected in any Halloween store, pre-​packaged costumes are overpriced and of poor quality. Good selection of wigs, masks, and magic props.
HOWEVER, after seeing a large bunny rabbit packed into a small FISH TANK in a store swarming with loud adults and children tapping on the container with two full-​sized doves, an empty water dispenser, and no food, I will never ever return to this store. When my friend and I mentioned the inadequacy of the rabbit’s living conditions to staff, one made a joke about the rabbit being fake and the others laughed.

This store, for a Halloween freak like me, is a wonder of the modern world. The basement with its racks and racks of professional costumes is amazing and truly worth a visit. If you go during the off season, you may be as lucky as me and get a little tour from one of the staff. The costumes are just wondrous and they look as though they could have been in operas and huge productions. The main floor is a true Halloween/​costume store, but only with the greatest inventory you’ve ever seen. Who has an assortment of horns two days before Halloween? This place. And they close late! And the line that stretches down the block moves so fast! Efficiency win! I love this place and hope it stays around forever and ever.

Halloween is my favorite time of the year and I love Abracadabra for all that it is and then some more.
The place is stocked to the gills with every imaginable costume you can think of. I come here almost every year, looking for inspiration for my Halloween costume and other events.
They have 3 levels for all your costume needs. Downstairs, there are accessories and make-​up to make you fantastic for Halloween. I was stumbling around a few nights ago in here trying on all sorts of hats!
The second floor is where you will find costume kits. Want to be an Indigenous person? Check. Cowboy/​cowgirl? Check. 70s hippie? Check. Sexy flight attendant? Check. They have everything here!
The basement has costumes you can rent, and well that can get pretty pricey, but if you want to steal the show, they will have a custom costume for you to rent.
Just one caveat to this great place, DO NOT COME IN HERE CLOSE TO HALLOWEEN, because you will be in line for hours. Come prepared and get your costume early, seriously. Or else be prepared to get intimate with everyone in line to get their last minute costume and be mentally OK with waiting over 2 hours to pay, that was my experience last year, never again!

Very nice and huge professional Halloween place in NYC!!! Love it! They have everything that I want!!! Also, they are very friendly good service!!! They teach my how to put on the make up and the latex prosthetic mask!!! And how to take it off too! It just very nice place to buy Halloween stuff! Highly recommend to you and your friends to come here!!!

Fiancé and I stopped in here before our reservation. I just started working down the street and wanted to check it out. We went over to the magic counter. The guy was really friendly and a great time! He showed us a bunch of different tricks and we had a really good time considering we just went in to walk around. The store has a ton of stuff to offer people anywhere from Halloween to music festivals. All the staff seem super friendly and helpful. We will definitely be going back even if it’s just for a quick magic show. Make sure to tip!

My son needed a George Washington costume in May for his school’s Character Day Parade. I’d gone to Party City but no luck. The employee there recommended I go to Halloween Adventures, but they close around the time I leave work, so no luck. Thanks to Unilocal,I found this place.
As soon as I entered, I was a little overwhelmed with all the staging. It was pretty amazing though. Only a few steps in, someone asked if I needed help. Right away I was taken care of and in less that 5 minutes I got what I needed. Unfortunately, they didn’t have my son’s size for a full costume, but I got a couple colonial period pieces that worked.

So I’ve never been to a masquerade ball before. So when my cousin invited me to the one she was having for her boyfriend, I jumped at the chance. The ball was the opportunity to dress up, have fun disguising yourself, and get your boogie on. Sweet.
So I immediately hopped online to see if I could locate the best mask possible. I figured that this was a once in a long lifetime experience, so why not go balls to the wall. There were some pretty good Venetian masks at different sites for around $ 40. That was pretty reasonable for something that was fun and elegant. The only drawback was having to ship the item, and the anxiety over its condition as it was shipped.
Then I remembered good old Unilocal.And of course all it took was typing in «masks» to get a list of available shops in the NYC area. And that is how I happened upon this establishment.
Other than that the shop is chuck full of costume fare for every occasion and season. I took a picture of every female mask they had for my cousin, who loved each one. So I got a great men’s mask, and even better compliments at the party.

Such a cool store! Good even for a visit.
The man behind the make up counter was so helpful with finding everything that we needed. The makeup was expensive but if you want cheaper stuff, check somewhere else for cheaper quality.
They had tons of costumes and anything you could think of.
My only complaint is that besides the man behind the make up counter, the other employees were far from welcoming. The woman behind the register was simply unkind.
I’m happy with everything we bought besides augenblut/​eyeblood by kryolan. The product just doesn’t work.

Very nice selection, even during an off Halloween season. The staff is wonderfully helpful, but a fair warning, it is pricier than most other costume stores. But you’re paying for quality, so make your call. I highly recommend Abracadabra.

Enormous selection of costumes and accessories but generally expensive. If you’re looking for a legitimate costume it’s probably worth the money, but if you just want a cheap gimmick you can certainly find better prices elsewhere.
Others on here have complained about customer service but the employees were very patient and pleasant to deal with when I visited. That being said, I was really only looking at masquerade masks so I can’t tell you how knowledgeable they are since I didn’t ask much of them.
I appreciated the 10% NYE discount (all I had to do was let them take my picture), but I agree that their strict no refund and no exchange policy is both frustrating and, in my opinion, harsh. While I didn’t feel deceived — the woman at the cash register specifically reminded me that there are no refunds — I just don’t really appreciate the rigidity of the policy in general.
While 3.5 stars may be more appropriate and I admit my interaction at Abracadabra was pretty limited, because the nature of my visit was positive and I don’t really have any complaints I feel obligated to go with 4 stars.

Great store and really well packed with wigs, makeup, costumes, sets… You name it, when it comes to costumes and Halloween, they mostly have it.
My one issue over the years has been the price. Most of the products are overpriced and if you’re not in a hurry, you can get them online for almost half the price at times.
I purchased many things there over the years, but only when I was in a hurry, otherwise, I take the reference and buy things online.
One thing you won’t get online is the knowledge the staff has. Ask and you shall receive. I really love the store, and even bring friends and family visiting NYC.

Halloween week shopping! This place was a life saver! Went literally everywhere in the city looking for a costume to put together and couldn’t find anything right for my taste! This was literally my last store hoping that I could walk out with something for Halloween! Thank god I did! I like their policy where you can try on 3 items of costumes (better than none in most stores). I tried 3 on, and bought one of them! Great accessory choices and great staffs as well! They will find everything you need to make your needs met! Totally satisfied and coming aback for next halloween party or just party in general when you need an outfit!

You can’t go wrong with the variety of costumed items and accessories here. You’ll find everything from outfits, masks, accessories for your outfit such as staffs etc. It’s a large space with 2 floors. Outfits and rentals are downstairs. You’ll definitely know its a costume shop once you walk in by how it’s decorated and the huge off putting rubber plastic smell that hits you. That alone you can tell it has many masks in the store.
Variety is great here for that specialized item you are looking for but the price is way overpriced for these items. If ya have deep pockets and need that special costume come here. Other than that i’ve seen better prices at other establishments for the same items.

Good store, you can find a lot of things, but you can’t return anything, even if it’s no work. Fitting room is very uncomfortable, you can’t try the acsessories on you. If that thing which you bought not good on you, just leave it at home or put to yhe garbage. The ckeck in doesn’t work more than a week. Why they still shows it on Unilocal

The costume said one size fits all. I bought it. It didn’t fit me. I am 6ft normal sized man. It was made for a much shorter person. But the shop took my 50 bucks and said no refunds. Rip off.

Let the buyer beware! There are No Refunds, No Returns, and No Exchanges at Abracadabra!
I bought an XL costume thinking it would fit, needless to say it didn’t. The next day when I tried to return it, I couldn’t. Not a very customer friendly store.

Muahaha! This store has it ALL. The best part is that they’re open all year round. The main floor holds the best makeup essentials and decorations for your event. This is what they’re known for. You can get large animals and really creepy zombies and even coffins as décor. The bottom floor holds an entire collection of vintage and heavy duty costumes that can be rented. These are some pretty legit costumes. During Halloween, the top floor has a large selection of prepackaged costumes as well. There are always attendants around to help you. The only downside is that their fitting rooms are slightly uncomfortable.

The staff was very helpful and attentive in returning my damaged costume and making sure I found a replacement and that it fits.

Let me just start out by saying that this review really goes to Jen Hebner and the fantastic design department at Abracadabra NYC. They are freaking AMAZING. If you need any alterations made to your costume or need a custom costume or looking for a rental, I would head straight to the basement floor of Abracadabra NYC. They are affordable, friendly and know what they’re doing plus they offer costume services all year long. Carnival anyone?
My story? I committed a rookie mistake and had my costume made by a well known online cosplayer on the other side of country. Now this costume was to be made specifically for my body from the top of my neck to the tip of my toe. I gave all of the measurements to her and… well, I think you can see where this is going. Thank GOD I asked for my costume to be completed and sent to me 2 weeks before the date of NY Comic Con. Lo and behold, it did not fit right. As in, it was literally choking me and I couldn’t zip it up because there was no stretch in the fabric… at all. Now I don’t know about you but a body suit design MUST have give. I almost had a melt down over it thinking there was no way it could be fixed within the next 2 weeks.
Luckily fellow Unilocaler Benson Y. was in the vicinity of Abracadabra when I told him of my plight and he walked straight into this Flatiron store and explained my situation. Once he told me that they encouraged me to bring it in and that it sounds like it is salvageable, my spirits instantly lifted. The very next day I headed over there and for the next hour or so we went over design, alterations and what I wanted for my Viper costume. In the end I was more than confident in her abilities to fix the mess I put myself in.
The best part was, I did not find her alterations to be expensive at all! They were completely reasonable and every alteration was listed out for pricing so I knew exactly what I was paying for. In terms of work she tucked a little here, put some spandex panels there, cut this, cut that yet it was still «my» baby if that makes sense. For my final fitting, I was in awe over how amazing it looked on me. The costume fit me perfectly to a T and I finally felt like the comic book villain I aimed to be.

I will be coming back to her for future costume jobs, no doubt. She saved my costume and my sanity…

I am kicking myself for purchasing that condom costume back in 2004 or was it 2005 when I could have just came here and rented a costume.
Albeit, I’m not sure if they indeed had one but I asked and they said they might.

This was the prop shop for what we needed for our film.
They have oodles and oodles of masks, props (including prop guns, rifles, swords, etc) as well as FULL costumes ranging from animals to pimp jackets.
I got the feeling that if you can’t find a costume here you might as well make it yourself.
The customer service was nice.
The downstairs one especially.
They were very accommodating and helpful.
Coincidentally, that is also where the costume rentals take place at.
If you are looking to rent a Halloween costume this year (2013), I’d suggest you to rent it EARLY at least by a month.
As it was suggested to me by the guy who worked downstairs.
Suggestively, you should already be thinking about what you want to dress up as this year.

This place was very cool. Full of fun stuff that I would have loved to browse, and absolutely huge. They had a good selection of masquerade masks and I ended up buying a gorgeous one that I love. The staff was friendly — the gentleman helping me was nice enough to offer opinions and help me decide, even though I walked in about 10 minutes before closing.
I think it gets three rather than five stars because at the end of the day, I paid $ 28 for a plastic mask that I had to go home and attack with super glue, because crystals were falling off or lopsided. Granted, I haven’t been shopping elsewhere for masks, and some other reviewers say that the prices here are a steal. But $ 28 for made-​in-​China plastic just strikes me as a lot.
In any case, the selection was great and the help was much appreciated. The ability to try on before deciding made the price worth it, I guess, although I have no idea what I’d find online. If you’re in a hurry and need a mask fast, I’d definitely recommend this place.
