A R Trapp

I bought my first pair of eyeglass frames here in 2010. Told the chap who helped me that I’d never buy glasses anywhere else. Since then, I’ve had to get glasses twice. I live in San Francisco and wait to replace frames until I’m in NYC and can visit AR Trapp.

I have always loved their window displays, so I went in recently looking for a new pair of glasses. The gentleman working said, «Well, maybe we can help you, maybe we can’t.» What? So I tried on quite a few pairs. After showing him my prescription, I told him explicitly I wanted something on the more wild side. He kept showing me plain brown frames and saying, «Here is something more conservative.» I did finally find a pair I liked and would have bought it on the spot, but he said, «You think about it, and when you’ve resolved your problems, come back if you want them.» I’m not sure what problems I have — at least not that he would have been aware of — but the whole encounter was bizarre enough I’m going to look elsewhere.

Nice quality glasses, but very limited selection for smaller faces.

The best opticians in NYC bar none. Tremendous service and a wonderful selection of eye glasses – especially plastic. I’m a bit passionate about my glasses, and the gentleman here understand that and take the time to work with me on getting the right design and fit. Their selection of plastic frames is really outstanding – the best I have found – with many innovative pieces they have created themselves. Give yourself a treat and go to A R Trapp.

on my way to trapp opticians, i happened to stop at j. press on madison ave… i encountered a perfectly put together sales person– extremely high prep– with a very cool pair of round tortoise glasses — i asked him if there was any reason to search any opticians other than a r trapp… he smiled and said «don’t waste your time» … just go to trapp and you will find what you’re looking for… he was right… amazing selection of very traditional p –3’s — some with variations on the color theme… unique…a must visit for anyone seeking old school frames with a new twist…

Completely unhelpful and unintelligible on the phone!

I love this place… I totally agree with Mike… Andy, Isaac, and Arnie are all so nice and fun to talk to (when they are not so busy).
They definitely have a great selection and great service. The prices are kinda high but I love the unique frames they carry… you can always find something just right and they fill the prescriptions perfectly.

Store has an eye-​catching window display on Madison Avenue (it is what brought me into the shop!). A bit small, in comparison to the mid-​town competition, but don’t let this fool you. Great selection of quality frames; many are unique or even custom-​made. Moreover, if they don’t have it, they will go to great lengths to get it quickly; if it isn’t right, they will fix it… superlative service!
Three eye pros here… Andy (owner), Issac and Arnie (my personal favorite… a terrific guy!!!). They bring many years of experience and knowledge. Also, they deal with a fairly extensive list of high-​profile, demanding clients… they can surely meet your needs!
