42 Street- Bryant Park Station

It is a train station. Not a bad one; it’s kind of clean. Best part of this subway station is that it lets out to Bryant park and Times Square. So location wins this one! There has been stop and frisk stations setup here but not often. I haven’t noticed bad lines or any other annoyances. I don’t notice homeless people begging much at this station either. I don’t think I could ever rate a subway station higher then three stars so this is a winner. There is no escalator at this station so be ready to climb those NYC subway stairs.

You can take the B, D, F, M, and 7 train at this train station. It makes me so happy knowing that the 7 train connects to these 4 particular trains.
You could always walk a couple of blocks over to take the A, C, E, Q, R, S, 1, 2, or 3 train if those trains are more convenient for you. If you don’t want to walk, just take the 7 train down to the last stop and transfer there instead.
There’s service underground! Awesome! Just love this train station aside from is being crowded majority of the times.

Just your average subway station. Underground there isn’t much available form a snack perspective so bring it with you. The B, D, F, and M train are available here.
Be sure to listen to the announcements on the weekend as the stops change continuously.

42^nd Street — Bryant Park station is a major subway transportation hub. There is a long underground passageway that connects Eighth Avenue with Times Square via 42^nd Street. Here lies the following subway lines:
Eighth Avenue, 42^nd Street at Port Authority — A, C, E trains
Times Square, 42^nd Street — 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R trains

The long underground passageway is also ramp accessible where at select times strap hangers can be entertained with various panhandlers, street busk musician performers, peddlers selling candy, and sound oscillator from religious preachings. Yes, a typical NYC subway station cannot be without the labyrinth passageways, mezzanines, series of never ending stairways, and the acrid odor of panhandlers as 42^nd Street– Bryant Park is no different. This pedestrian passageway moves moderately and pedestrians keep to the right in a orderly fashion. During one’s routine walk in the underground passageway strap hangers who are very observant will notice a poem by Norman B. Colp’s «The Commuter’s Lament,» or «A Close Shave.» It is a series of short versus relating to the daily workforce life attached to the overhead metal construction I-​beam which can only be viewed from the IND 8^th Avenue/​42^nd Street passageway to Times Square. It is approximately located every fifth metal beam on the left side.

The passageway walls are also adorned with artwork etched granite depicting roots of trees with various literacy quotes. As a poet I always enjoy quality meaningful literary quotes.

Usually clean & monitored well. Subway signage is helpful and useful. Just be on the lookout for annoying people approaching you and following you with their survey questions. What’s up with that? In the beginning wasn’t too bad; just said, no thanks or excuse me, but when they get in your face and trail after you, that’s harassment.

This place gets the job done.

Nothing fancy here. One thing to keep in mind though is there is a news stand here as well as a flower shop. Working vending stations every time I have been here.
There is also a great vocalist here!

I am not sure what the parking situation is around here, but I imagine parking spaces are expensive and hard to find.

Pretty much like any other subway station in NYC. But it takes me right into one of my favourite parks — perfect. Good option as opposed to Times Square and Grand Central Station which are on each side of this line. Less tourists, traffic and commotion here.
A smell of pee? Well, it is a subway after all. I wasn’t expecting a scent of raspberry and mango with a hint of vanilla.

Good alternate station to get out from if I need to take the F train to Manhattan instead of the E train if I am running a little late. The walk through 7^th ave and Broadway always sickens me but this station stops you from seeing all the tourists just like Monica T said. Good station to get out if you are going ice skating also.

The station definitely has a pee smell :/
The plus side is that it is right in between Grand Central and Times Square but has WAY less congestion than those stations.
Super easy spot to hop on and off the 7 train and connects to the Orange line (BDMF) which cut to the west side of the park going uptown and they crosses through LES into Brooklyn going downtown.
Best part is that Bryant Park is right outside this station. Some great food trucks park near here and in the warmer months you can enjoy your picnic lunch on the lawn. :)

So So So So much better than the MARTA in Atlanta. While there needs to be more signage helping you understand which way to get to certain trains/​directions, the subway itself is fantastic. We don’t get good things like this down south!

Meh… not good… not bad… just ok. You just gotta know which entrance to pop out of to avoid congestion… and you’re fine.

Probably the closet subway for me to get on the 7 train whenever I need to head over to Flushing. Like Monica T mentioned here, you’re not getting out into a crowd of tourists like it would be at Times Square which can be a total pain but being greeted by a Park once you exit the station is definitely nicer. I would say one of the good things about this station is that if you really need to use the restroom before or after you get in/​out of the station, Bryant Park has public restrooms readily available that are pretty well maintained, other than that, it’s a typical NY subway station.

Your typical subway station with the smell and the labyrinthine exits. The good thing about this station is that you aren’t getting out right in a throng of tourists as you would at Times Square. It’s a little more manageable to walk in this area of town & it’s right near a bar association I belong to. The same rules applying to other stations apply here as well though you do seem to encounter fewer crazies at this stop.
I don’t recall seeing scientologists or performers here like you do at Port Authority; they’re outside the iconic NY Public building instead.

I’ve been in this Subway station frequently for the last 24 years and it’s one of my favorites– it’s just below the New York Public Library and the art work in this station is just beautiful. I especially like the walls in the long corridor leading to the exit at 5^th Avenue.
