215 East 68th Street

I’ve lived here for three years and have had no major issues. The apartment is nice and management is quick to respond to problems (even on Sunday’s/holidays). I agree with others that the construction was really annoying when it was happening, but it wasn’t something anyone made a secret and the worst noise (at least in my wing) was from Graces market (not sure exact affiliation to building).
Also, I know it is part of their job, but I’m always impressed that in a building with over a thousand tenants that most of the doormen know my name and know when I have a package even before I ask. They also have retrieved packages for me from security after hours and helped me get into my apartment when I have been locked out. Based on my experience it is just hard to imagine a halfway civil person having the sort of experiences described in other reviews.

Stayed 4 days at 215E 68^th street ! Enjoyed it !! Perfectly located ! 15 minutes to times square, close to central park and madison avenue.

I lived in this building for 4 years and I have never experienced what these reviews say. I found Patricia Douglas to be very fair and super nice when we first rented and for any problem we had. The super Jimmy was fantastic and always helpful. The doormen were just as nice
and great, always helping with packages and anything else we needed. I cried when I left this building. I miss living there, it was one of the fun times of our lives. We would still be there if
my husband did not retire and we moved to Florida. I never heard my neighbors through the walls and can’t understand why anyone would call this place a dump.

I commissioned a real state agent to find me an apartment in manhattan, the one big requirement for the apartment was that there should not be any construction of any kind in it. 215 with its elegant entrance, the many uniformed doorman really misleads the renters.
I paid almost a months rent before I could actually be ready to make my move. I was also moving my business near by. We had all kinds of complications driving across the country, it took us much longer then anticipated. We arrived late saturday night, next morning I saw all kinds of lay out and tools for contractors at front entrance. When I asked what that was about I was told that its a on going construction for the last 5 years and should not effect me on my side. Wrong! I was awaken by the sound of heavy drilling at 8 am Monday morning.
I got in touch with the building super, who in return came over with the building manager. A young woman, dressed very sharply. She asked if i could put my dog in another room so she can talk to me. Right then she made me feel very uncomfortable. This was after all a pet friendly building.
I told her how i had it in writing that they would be done with their construction by end of June. That’s why I had paid one month ahead of my arrival so I don’t have to live in it. Her response to me was that it does not matter to her where I live, since she works on a salary, and that she has ran my complaint to the owners of the building and they are giving me the option of leaving at the end of the month. In return I told her I didn’t pack for two months, drive almost 3000 miles to leave. I asked them both if they would work with me?
I don’t know what this young woman had against me, but I know it’s her who had told the super to never answer any of my complaints, or do anything about it. They made sure any construction that was starting would start first thing in the morning on my side. They were in the process of replacing all the pips and the air conditioning units in the entire building. They had to tear walls open in order to do so. This building is so poorly constructed that one can hear everything that happens in other apartment. The smell of food being cooked is always present as the stoves don’t have any fan over them. I actually asked one of the head maintenance guys where the fan is? And he said people weren’t using them so they didn’t replace it when they remodeled the kitchen. He should me a small vent and he said that works as fan! Yeah right! it was only blowing the smell of onion being fried or meat being cooked in to my apartment.
This building is full of rent control tenants, they paid not even one percent of the high rent I was paying. Instead of working with a higher paying tenant, they stuck to their old hags who liked to blast the TV till 5 am, since they were hard of hearing and probably fell sleep with their tv on.
Readers, be aware and stay away from this building. I finally had to take my loss and take their offer and move out. Since I couldn’t find another apartment suitable for my needs, I had to move out of manhattan. But I still had my business near by, it cost me thousands of dollar and lots of agony commuting from long distance to attend to my business.

I have lived in many high rise full service buildings and 215 east 68^th st is by far the worst run building with the poorest construction I have ever seen! There are SO many issues I don’t know where to begin. First of all, do not get fooled by the fancy looking lobby, this place is one of the biggest dumps in manhattan. A broker showed me this building and I got totally fooled by the large closets and pretty lobby. I made such an expensive mistake falling for it!
They advertise the place as having parking… Liars! This is not true. You can park nearby for $ 600 a month.
Their manager Patricia Douglas is the most unpleasant person I have ever dealt with. She is extremely rude and as far as I know nobody can stand her. She is totally useless and will not take care of one problem. Her attitude is like «sucks to be you». One time we addressed a problem to her and she could not care less. She actually said «if you rent here or not I get paid either way». She looks down at everybody!
The walls in this building are paper thin. Whatever your upstairs, downstairs and next door neighbors are doing you can hear from moving furniture, flushing the toilet, watching tv, listening to music, talking etc. They claim that everybody has to have 80% carpeting– bullshit! Patricia the manager said it’s just there as a formality and they do not enforce it. The neighbor who lived underneath of me blasted surround sound on her TV until 2am 7 days a week. Not one thing was done to fix this. All I heard in my apartment was her tv word by word and the person above me stomping around in high heels. It was so bad that I could not hear my own tv over it. I could hear my next door neighbors conversations word by word. There is ZERO privacy. So be ready to hear everything that goes on around you. As if it is not bad enough that you can hear your neighbors every movement, the building is under going total renovation. If you plan on being home during 8am-​7pm Monday through Saturday get ready to hear demolition and hammering and chainsaws all day long. Yes, this includes Saturdays! I have never lived in a building that allows Saturday construction and move ins but this one does. Don’t think you’ll get even a moment of peace living here. If it’s not construction it’s your neighbors you will hear.
215 east 68^th street is the worst building in manhattan and rudin management is the WORST management company known to man! Besides being useless and nonexistent management is a total joke. There is no on site manager. Just a «super» (jimmy cira) who is never there! He is nearly impossible to get a hold of and is always playing hooky. The other manager Marty does not look you in the eye when you speak to him. All he does is pick his teeth with his fingers.
One older male resident bullied me and tried to hit me and the useless doorman and super did not do a thing. Half of the doormen here are very unfriendly and do not greet you. In fact, one of the doorman joined in on verbally assaulting me when resident was screaming at me. Patricia had to put her two cents in and did not show an ounce of sympathy.
The laundry room is in the basement and you have to do an elevator change to get to it. It’s a long walk from your apartment. The machines are total garbage and left my clothes dirty.
They close the trash room at 10pm daily so you’re screwed if you need to put out trash.
Worst of all if you are a new tenant and not under rent control you are screwed. 90% of the building is rent controlled and paying a third of what you pay. It hurts to know other people have larger apartments for way cheaper than you. And these people never speak up about any issues because they are so grateful to be rent controlled they do not want to risk anything. Total cowards!
I hope reading this review will prevent you from signing a two year lease here which is required. I counted down the days until my lease was over. The day I moved out was my favorite day. Lastly, I did not receive a penny back from my deposit. I did not even get a note saying what my deposit money was used for. I have a feeling this was not legal.
I have lived in a lot of similar buildings and this is by far the worst one. For the amount of rent people pay here it should be a wonderful and classy place to live but it is the opposite. I honestly cannot think of one good thing to say about this building. Please beware before signing your lease!!! I promise you you will regret living here like I did. There is not one moment of peace in your day and quality of life is nonexistent.

I stayed with a friend who lives in this building. Staying here was purely a nightmare. Expect to be awaken at 8am by the loudest construction noise you could imagine. The construction goes on from 8 – 5 Monday through Saturday! Yes they work on Saturdays! The building is undergoing major renovations and the poor tenants have to suffer through it. The other huge issue is the paper thin walls. I could hear the surrounding neighbors every moment from walking to conversations to radios. We tried complaining to the building manager who was the most unpleasant person I have ever come across. Management is unwilling to even try to fix an issue. I was so impressed when I saw I would be staying in a building that looked beautiful on the outside but the second I stepped in I wish I had not. I feel terrible for my friend as he has to wait a little under two years for his lease to end.
