The 1894 Lodge

I am sorry to say but I have to write this semi-negative…or semi-​positive review on The 1894 Lodge in New Washington, Indiana. We had lunch there on Friday afternoon July 24, 2015. Our first time there.
We were kindly greeted by the host and were given the lunch menu. We decided on an appetizer of a Crab Dip before our lunch. Since I am somewhat allergic to certain seafood, I immediately asked the waitress if this was «real» crab or «imitation» crab. She replied that it was real crab. I asked her if she was positive since she didn’t seem to be very sure. She said it was real crab.
We placed the order. About 10 minutes later, she brought out the crab dish and set it in the table and she went away. It looked delicious. We cut into this savory looking, cheese covered dish only to find… you guessed it… large pieces of «imitation» «fake» crab. We called her back to the table and showed it to her.
She apologized and said that she’d thought they used real crab. We knew it wasn’t her fault but if she wasn’t certain, perhaps she should have checked with the chef. She was a very nice young lady.
I am writing this to let other people know before they order this dish that imitation crab is what you will get if ordering the crab dip. There are some people that are very allergic to certain seafood products. Those in the restaurant business should be very aware of this.
On the positive side, the building is beautiful inside and the staff appears friendly. We realize that it is difficult to iron out all the bugs when starting up a new restaurant. We hope they have great success there. Just hope they either do away with the «crab dip» or start using real crab. Bön appetite.

Great new place, come and enjoy, on your way down the roads of life. Exceptional gem in the heart of the country. We had a crawfish poor boy with Mornay sauce. Just traveling through town, but well worth going out of your way for.

Get the crab dip appetizer… It’s fantastic. Venue is very interesting; all the food was good. Only complaint: country music was playing.
