I recently accompanied my father here for his cataract surgery. The center is helpful in the fact that they set up a car service and pick you up about an hour prior to your procedure and also arrange for you to get home. The center called the night before to say the car would be coming at 6:30AM(which I kind of figured since most surgeries are done early, anyway). They, however, did not specify the actual procedure time. The driver arrived at 6:15 and we picked up one other patient(plus her escort) then we were on our way. The center isn’t far from the city, provided there isn’t much traffic. The small village part of New Rochelle is nearby. The center looks huge on the outside but I believe those are mostly offices since the surgical unit itself is tiny. The front desk was very nice and helpful. There is a tiny TV with the news, a water cooler, and a coffee maker. The waiting area gets VERY crammed when more patients arrive, though. The problem is, there are no hooks for coats and the patient has to leave their items with their escort inside the waiting room. The pre-op is done in a tiny area by one of the nurses. The nurse was extremely nice but the pre-op felt rushed and the area was cramped. It didn’t help they also make your escort go into that portion of the center with you, so it’s even more cramped. The surgical unit looked ok from what I could see through the window on the door. Apparently all the patients relax together after getting their IVs. My father also mentioned the recovery unit was within the surgical area… Uhhhh, why? While the procedure was taking place they«forgot» to ask one patient about any allergies and had to ask her granddaughter for assistance. They also told me they would give me post-op care instructions in case my father forgot. When my father was finished, he only was allowed to sit for a few minutes in the waiting area, after having a cookie and a glass of juice in recovery. Then the driver arrived and practically rushed us out to head home to the city. They also never gave me post-op instructions. They told my father he was the only one who needed to know, even though they told two other escorts. Wut? Overall the center is clean and easy to travel too(especially with the car service provided) but I wasn’t impressed. The staff is friendly and nice but not helpful and everything seemed rushed. They also said this would be an all-day procedure when it ended up being only 3 hours or so. Not professional.
